Thinking that it was not worth the time and effort to argue with someone like Daniel, it was Santina this time who turned to her back and started to walk towards the door instead; ready to leave.
"Anton, Mikael, let's go. Mikael is right, we are only wasting our time here."
She beckoned to her two other companions as she took the lead and headed outside. But just when she was about to step outside the room, she halted her steps and turned around to face Daniel one last time.
"For your sake, Attorney Sapiro, I really hope that you do get the right man."
Santina said word by word. The tone of persuasive rationality that was present in her voice the previous time was long gone and it was now replaced with a slight air of menace instead.
After saying that, she and the two others finally took their leave; leaving Daniel alone by himself. As the door closed behind them, Daniel felt a cold shiver ran down his spine.
As soon as Mikael arrived at their workplace, he immediately sent Officer Aragon an email. Giving the other party a head up on what happened at their meeting. Not a long while, he received a direct call from him.
"Hello, Officer Aragon. How are you feeling right now? I hope you are doing fine there."
Mikael said the moment he picked up the call.
"I'm good, kiddo. Let's skip the formalities and tell me what really happened. What did you say Attorney Sapiro told you? Tell me everything and don't leave out a single detail."
The other party instructed over the phone. Albeit a bit weak, the undeniable authority within Officer Aragon's voice was still noticeable when he said that and that was why Mikael was compelled to follow.
"Well to make the story short, we were told by Attorney Sapiro that were confident that they could already nab the suspect within just a week."
"What did you say???"
Mikael subconsciously put the phone a little farther away from his ear when Officer Aragon's voice raised an octave higher.
From the current looks of it, it seemed that even the chief of police was not exactly happy by the news. Just like Santina and Mikael, he was not convinced as well by this sudden turn of events.
"Sapiro only take over the investigation when I was left with no choice to receive treatment. So how was he able to do that feat as such a short period of time??? Something was not right here. Let me call the station."
Officer Aragon said with an edge of inexplicable emotion on his voice.
"Alright."
Mikael responded right away and shortly after that, the other party ended the call. Knowing the other party, he was probably a second away from dialing his office as soon as his call with Mikael ended.
Just like what Mikael expected, as soon as Officer Aragon concluded their call, he immediately gave his office a ring.
Working with Daniel Sapiro for years, Officer Aragon had already long suspected that the other party would probably not take the case seriously once he took over it.
It was for that reason that he left his trusted subordinate at his office. In that way, he could still have an inside information on what was going on the Bureau while he was away.
However, he underestimated Attorney Sapiro's audacity. What he did not expect was that Attorney Sapiro would act fast. Little did he knew that Daniel had grown audacious because he actually had a powerful backing. Someone from the high office gave him a go signal.
"Sorry to disturb you, James. I know you are on off duty today as it is Saturday. But I just want to get an update on what was going on at my office? I heard Sapiro was already a step away from catching the culprit? Was it true?"
James was surprised when he heard his superior's inquiry. Truth be told, he was just about to give the other party a call to report, but it seemed that he was still a step ahead of him.
"That is correct, Officer Aragon. In fact, I was just about to call you now to tell you that Sapiro detained a suspect today."
James replied but his answer only triggered Officer Aragon more that how he already was
"He what?! How??? How was he able to do that?!"
"Sir, Officere Ramirez authorized everything. They followed the procedures but I still have my doubts."
James reported and then he revealed his thoughts afterward.
