Chapter 7

The next morning, Sarah awoke to the small white ball of fluff sitting on her chest and meowing.

Checking the clock, she saw that her alarm hadn't gone off. The kitten had awoken her a minute after her alarm should have gone off.

Feeding the rather helpful kitten, she got ready and went to work.

On the way, Callum called out to her.

"Sarah!" He called out.

She turned. "Oh, hello, Callum" She said. "I'm sorry about your brother."

"Me too." He replied, his anger spiking. "I swear I'm going to find the bastards who murdered my brother."

"Woah. Cool it, Callum." She said worriedly. "Revenge doesn't help anyone."

"I still want them gone." He said, his anger abruptly abating."

"This is Stardust, I take it?" She asked, quickly changing the subject. She had many concerns for Callum's well-being.

Stardust examined her closely.

"Yes." He replied.

"He's beautiful." She said, slowly reaching out to pet him. Stardust avoided her hand and padded behind Callum.

"He's kind of on edge because a certain little s**t kept harassing him." Callum explained.

"Oh, Shawn?" She asked. "The delinquent of the area? He tried to rape me once."

"Are you okay?" Callum immediately asked.

"Well, he's dead, so yeah." She responded. She was glad he was gone.

"How did he die?" Callum asked, feigning surprise.

"His knife shattered and slit his carotid arteries." She said. "Police are confused as to what could cause a knife to do that, but since there was no evidence of anyone else being there, they had no way of finding out."

She checked her watch. "I have to run to work now." She said, hurrying away.

....

When her shift ended that night, she saw Callum and Stardust waiting for her.

Callum approached her and handed her a glowing green orb.

"Hope this helps with your power." He said before abruptly turning and walking away.

Her brain shorted. She hadn't told anyone, she hadn't shown her power except to someone who thought it was her tazer, and she'd been careful to avoid exposing it. So how did he know?

'He probably meant metaphorically, right?' She tried to reassure herself.

....

After working out and arriving at home, she was greeted by a happy kitten.

She petted it and found that the little thing had a little bit more flesh on its bones. This made her happy.

Pouring food into its dish, she pulled the things out of her pockets and sat down holding the green ball Callum had given her.

The little kitten mewed at her. She picked it up and set it on the couch next to her. Rather than curl up like it normally did, it pawed at the arm holding the ball.

Confused, she put the ball in front of the kitten and observed the kitten put as much of its body against it as possible. Trying to take it back to observe it, she was surprised that the kitten came with it.

Leaving the ball with the cat, she got ready and went to bed.

....

The next morning she didn't see the cat at all. She didn't have enough time to go and search for him, so she left.

On her way, the district manager called her and let her know that she was thw new manager for the store she worked at.

She was thrilled.

The rest of her day went well, and she found a vet that was open after her shift.

Taking the much larger ball of fluff, she went to adopt him. Now that she had enough money, she wanted to adopt it.

Going through the paperwork, she then had to pick a name. She thought for a moment. "Nimbus." She said.

Taking Nimbus home, she returned the glowing green ball that seemed slightly smaller and skipped gym for the day. The gym was already closed by the time she had adopted Nimbus.

Nimbus when she went to sleep was the size of a medium dog. When she woke up the next morning, she was greeted by a panther.
