I'm digging the premise but have some issues with accuracy. Japanese culture, in particular the yakuza, are very insular. They would not have blues eyes as that would be considered essentially a mud blood. To that end they certainly wouldnt want a redhead ostensibly white DIL. I'm not being a racist, I'm being sadly accurate. I have a half japanese friend who is not recognized by his grandfather bc he is half Ute Indian. Got another one with similar issues with her japanese mother's family... so it's a fairly common denominator. Without the japanese inverted birth ratio it would probably be even worse. The newer generation I think is more accepting bc if they dont move away from their almost eugenic blood purity thing, they would die out. (Ive got a friend whose 18 year old daughter is accepted by her Japanese boyfriend's family, so that isolationist thing is starting to go away...unless Yoshi's family is just really open minded.) Both of the first two friends are in their 50s. So theres definite possibility for change in the modern era, but something set in the 1920s would have that prejudice in spades. That kind of contextual error makes suspending my disbelief, and really getting into the story, difficult. I am enjoying the chemistry though. (Isenglass is also a mica compound with iron content often used in craftsman style/era lamp shades.)
