"Sure, little bird," Spade cooed. He stroked Alice's head as if she were his pet, smiling gently. "Whatever you say."

Upon the second prince's insistence, Alice was on the way back to the Ragan's Estate with Spade as her company. He hadn't thought she would be safe alone, something a part of Alice was also worried about.

Contrary to what she said out loud, she knew deep inside that she made some pretty powerful enemies. First came the carriage accident, then the assassination attempt, and lastly, her tea party with the Queen that was filled with unspoken threats and unsaid warnings.

Obviously, there was someone — or more than one — that wanted Alice dead and buried six feet under.
