Caring About Money

Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

Bang!

Shen Chen kicked open the new door that had only been replaced two days ago.

It scared the daylights out of Shen Zhongming, who was slaughtering a chicken in the kitchen. His hand jerked, and the knife dropped from his hand with the back of the knife hitting his foot.

A loud wail instantly came out of the kitchen.

Shen Chen entered the kitchen and saw Shen Zhongming squatted on the floor with his hand pressing on his foot, howling in pain.

Due to his grating voice, she nearly could not stop herself from knocking him out.

After a few moments, Shen Zhongming finally calmed down. "Girl, could you please be gentle to the new door of our house?"

That door cost 1,800 dollars. If broken again, his heart will too.

"You only care about money!" Shen Chen shot a glare at him.

No one knew him better than his daughter. Shen Zhongming pulled himself up with the support of the cabinet, sighing. "How can I not care? It's five million—"

Shen Chen narrowed her eyes. He was still thinking about that money.

"You freaking gambler. Since you couldn't bear to let go of the money, why did you give it away without even thinking?"

Shen Zhongming cleaned the knife, then chopped the chicken. "As greedy as I was, I couldn't bring myself to let others bully my daughter! Money is nothing compared to you."

Shen Chen folded her arms across her chest as she leaned against the jamb with brows knitted together, and said nothing.

Shen Zhongming just went on. "I couldn't help but want to give myself a hundred likes thinking of that feat I have pulled off that day."

Shen Chen rolled her eyes.

As she slammed the kitchen door shut, Shen Zhongming felt the entire kitchen shake.

He looked at the door with his hand holding a knife frozen in midair, his face twitched.

It was okay to slam doors. But it must be done sensibly.

There were three disadvantages to slamming the doors in their home: one, it cost money; two, it cost money; and three, it still costs money.

The three advantages to slamming the doors of other's houses were: one, it cost no money; two, it cost no money; and three, it still costs no money.

The chicken soup was finally ready after boiled for three hours.

The soup spurted out of Shen Chen's mouth after she just took a sip.

She had seen him mistaking sugar and MSG as salt, but the dumbo had mistaken flour as salt this time.

"It doesn't taste good?" Shen Zhongming had vaguely realized that he had messed up.

"You try it for yourself."

Shen Zhongming stirred the whitish chicken soup with a ladle, building his courage to take a mouthful.

His stomach started to churn even before he swallowed the soup.

But he forced himself to drink it. "Girl, give me some time, I will redo it."

"You had better don't." Shen Chen cocked an eyebrow, looking at him with a sympathetic expression. "Your intelligence is hopeless.'

"I am going out for a stroll," she said without waiting for Shen Zhongming to respond.

The moment she was out of the house, she bumped into Mrs. Li, her neighbor, who had just came back from the market.

Shen Chen turned around instinctively, trying to avoid her.

Mrs. Li caught her with keen eyes. "Chen, Chen, wait! I have something to ask you."

Shen Chen had no choice but to stop, turn around and greet her politely. "Hi, Mrs. Li."

Mrs. Li acknowledged her, then creased her brow. "Tell me, Chen, what happened during the blind date that day?"

"Nothing. It just didn't work out."

"Don't hide it from me anymore. Li has told me everything. You guys parted on bad terms, even quarreled that day."

"We didn't quarrel, just raised our voices a little."

"You are a kind girl. It's just that you have a quick temper." Mrs. Li patted her on the hand as she urged earnestly. "Past is past, please don't take it to heart. When opportunities arise, I will arrange for you another date."

"Mhm."

Shen Chen's lips curled in a smile that indicated she did not really care.

Her simple, one-word reply was concealing the thought in her mind.
