Loves To Joke

Meng Meng already disliked the fact that Hawk's eyes followed Lily's figure when she first made her entrance. Even after she was gone, Hawk asked to confirm her and Lily's relationship. She angrily gritted her teeth as she told him they were cousins.

She could sense the resentment in his eyes that quickly faded as he accompanied her into the room. Since most guests came from prestigious families, she held back her temper and relaxingly smiled.

Lily's appearance snatched her spotlight away. This time, she was confident in taking it back. Unfortunately, the moment she stepped into the room, everyone heard Lily hinting Meng Meng not being part of the Jiang family.

Gathering herself together, Meng Meng forced a smile and walked over, "Cousin, you love to joke too much. How could we be unrelated? Haha, if others don't believe your dress being Y.S designer's design, I will trust you."

The way she said it and the tone she used put Lily's gown back on the table for discussion purposes. Smiling as she stood up straight, Lily spread her arms slightly and said, "Oh? If those people don't want to believe, then let them be. As for my gown, Y.S designer's work is the best evidence. It's normal for people to envy and speak foul words. Meng Meng, what do you think?"

Twitching her lips and avoiding others' gaze, she answered, "I believe your words. I'm sure my guests were only interested in your outfit because it looks gorgeous on you. Anyways, let's get on with the party."

Meng Meng heard nothing but silence after she said to proceed with the party. Instead, she felt pressured as her words already caused disturbances to the guest's moods. Her words had indirectly offended the valuable participants.

After giving a brief introduction, Meng Meng raised her glass for a toast. Since Lily doesn't drink too often, she only had one specific rose champagne brand that she would always consume. Waiters filled up everyone's glass with wine, but poured champagne into Lily's glass instead. Seeing the pale pink liquid being the only one different from the rest of the crowd, her suspicions blasted on high bar.

She's always been careful when it came to drinking in public events. When facing even the littlest suspicions, she would not consume it. Still, she stood up to raise her wine glass and pretended to drink from the glass.

Purposely making a gulping motion in her throat, she acted as if she had drunk the champagne. As expected, Meng Meng appeared more relaxed and cheerful after seeing the swallow motion from her throat. Lily easily figured something wasn't right and rinsed her lips with water from an unopened water bottle she found on the table. Even though the champagne didn't touch her lips, the glass did.

Using her own napkin, she wetted it with water and dabbed on her lips. Aaron noticed her odd behavior and asked, "Is something wrong?"

"No. Everything is fine. Thanks for your concern." She made a large gap between them as she shifted her chair to the left; sitting closer to the wall.

Aaron shrugged as he did not have any additional intentions for asking her this time, but she held high guards around him. Although he was interested in her, he sensed her rejection. Since she showed little to no interest in him, he backed off to avoid any misunderstandings.

After studying her actions, Lin Que kept his eyes on her in case of any accidents. Soon, music started playing in the background and Meng Meng had her first dance with Hawk at the center of the room. While everyone kept their eyes on the couple, Aaron Cheng remembered the words he wanted to say before Lily appeared.

'That's odd. I remember the Fu family's son was an only child, and he died in an accident already. The family had always been low profile, so they decided to keep the news from the media since they were recovering from loss. If that's the case, then things just got more interesting.' Aaron smiled as his fingers tapped on his crossed arm.

Once the first dance had finished, Meng Meng bowed to the crowd that didn't applaud, "Thank you for watching my dance. How about we have our male guests ask their female companions out for a dance?" Meng Meng shot a glance towards Lily and smirked as she knew most people came in pairs.

The only ones who came without a partner were those with lower status. As if reading her cousin's mind, Lily stepped away from the crowd and stayed in her own corner with a stack of documents in her hands.

'Meng Meng, your overconfidence will kill you today if you provoke me. As long as I hear even a single word about me from any guests present, I will clarify it.' Normally, couples would partner up and entertain themselves, but nobody seemed to have plans to show off tonight.

The atmosphere of the party worsened as everyone stood and chatted with each other. Their topics revolved around Lily's appearance and how she dared to show her face after Meng Meng exposed her secrets.

Even though Lily was standing alone, she could feel the heavy pressure under their judgmental glares. Coldly staring back at the crowds, she spotted the same lady from before who tried shaming her. She was chatting excitedly and making eye contact with her once in a while.

While passing by her, the lady spoke loudly, "I can't believe someone so shameless would have such audacity to show up at a grand party like this. A person does count on clothes to act high and mighty."

Turning around, Lily smiled, "Ah, Miss. Qin, I also agree with your words. I can't believe someone like you would be so bold to wear counterfeit luxuries to a party like this. Since you also feel that way, you should leave. The door is over there." She wiggled her fingers and waved bye to the lady.

"What are you talking about?! This is the newest Chanel bag, shoes and Valentino dress!" She gritted her teeth as she stomped her heels against the ground.

"Oh? Even if you want to cover it up, you should spend more money on the product. The dress you're wearing looks like the original product, except the buttons and flower embroiders are different. Since it's the newest collection, then search it up yourself. The zipper on that bag is not smooth and obviously missing the Chanel logo. Some minor details could distinguish a counterfeit from the real product. Do you want me to continue?"

The lady's boyfriend searched the newest collection and compared the picture to her dress. He whispered, "She's right."

Hearing her boyfriend's confirmation, her face boiled in anger as she dumped out the contents from her bag to her boyfriend's hands. She swung the bag across Meng Meng's face, smudging half her foundation off. "Jiang Meng Meng! How dare you gift me fake products?! If you don't have the connections, then don't pretend that you do. If you love counterfeits so much, you can keep it for yourself!"

"I..I.. Lily! How could you slander me like this?!" Meng Meng pointed at Lily with tearful eyes.

"Talk about slander? I wonder who could beat you, the queen of slandering others. This topic also works well with me. When you speak, you must have evidence. Speak. How did I slander you?" Lily touched her cheeks as her glare acted as the grim reaper's scythe aiming at Meng Meng.
