She lowered her head as she blushed from being dragged across the hallway to her room. Many nurses saw this scene and whispered to each other. She really wanted to hide her face, but couldn't because one hand wasn't big enough to cover her face.
Upon entering her room, he sat her down on the bed and crossed his arms.
"W..what is it?" She asked.
'Here comes the lecture.' She thought to herself as if she could predict his following speech.
"Did you forget why you were admitted to the hospital?" He raised his eyebrows as he asked this question in a strict manner.
"Because...I ate too much spicy food..." She answered.
"Good. You just recovered like five hours ago. No. Let's put it in more accurate terms. You haven't recovered yet. Your pain is under control because I prescribed your pills. Correct?" He sounded like a parent scolding their child for stealing chocolate from the candy jar right before dinner.
"Yes..." She covered her ears using her long hair. Noticing nurses peeking from the door, she wanted to tape his mouth closed.
"And you dared to ask me to add ice cream to your diet plan? Even after you know about your condition and how eating cold food and desserts could lead to massive stomach pain?" He continued giving her a lecture, despite seeing the audience from outside.
"I... I just wanted something more refreshing..Fine. Fine. I'll avoid cold things for as long as I am following your diet plan." Feeling hopeless in this situation, she could only agree with him first. Who would think this young doctor would be this strict with her?
"So, you know you're in the wrong?"
"Yes.." She sounded pitiful when she responded.
"Okay. Wait here." He softened his tone and walked out of the room. Though he stepped out slowly, he actually ran right after getting out of her sight range. After a few minutes, he rushed back to the room while fast walking.
"Here, it's not ice cream, but it's still very delicious. Since cutting dessert from your diet does seem a bit cruel, I'll allow one cup of hot chocolate a day. You can't drink coffee or anything that could trigger a stomach ache, understand?"
Handing the cup of hot chocolate to her, he reminded, "It's fresh from the cafeteria, so it's very hot. Don't drink it yet. You should be able to hold onto it since I double cupped it. If you get bored of drinking water, then have a cup of hot chocolate."
Similar to how parents would give their children a lesson and then provide a different way of comfort; he was looking out for her health. Seeing her in a daze, he set the cup of hot chocolate onto the table by her bedside for it to cool down.
She blinked several times before pinching her thighs. "AH!"
"Why would you pinch yourself like this?" He scratched his forehead and wasn't sure if he should treat that irritated area.
"I was trying to see if I was dreaming."
"And the results?"
"It's surprisingly the truth." She raised one finger and laughed loudly. Her response once again rendered him speechless.
The nurses were chewing on their lips as they wished that they were her. Even though he's been working at the hospital for a while now, he had never taken the initiative to speak to any of the nurses. The only times that he did were when he delivered the medical charts. His private life was all question marks, waiting to be filled.
This was also the first time he acted so caring to a patient. From the nurses' point of view, his lecturing just now looked more like a boyfriend expressing his care for the girlfriend. They were incredibly jealous of their interaction and how he still spoiled her at the end.
"Oh right, here. Your coat from earlier." She took off his coat and realized she had dirtied the sleeves earlier. She didn't have any tissues, so she used it to wipe her tears.
"It's fine. It's laundry day today." He reached out to grab his coat.
Outside the room, the nurses whispered, "Wasn't laundry day yesterday?"
Another nurse whispered, "Yeah. It's not today..."
When they looked up again, they read the warning glare coming from Lin Que's eyes and immediately stopped their eavesdropping session.
Lily ignored the extra people who were watching from outside the room and suggested to clean it herself. Since she was the one who dirtied it, she should be the one to clean it.
"I'll give it back to you after I clean it." She said softly as she touched the edge of the sleeves.
"It's fine. We pay for laundry service for a reason. You're a patient, so you should rest." He smiled when he saw her nervous expression.
"Hmm, okay. Then I'll leave it to you."
"It's getting a little late. You should have your dinner delivered soon. I'll let you rest for a bit before your meal comes." He wished he could stay longer, but he remembered some reports that he had forgotten to type up for the day.
When he turned around, her case of business cards fell out of the pocket. Apparently, the way he randomly hooked the coat onto his arm had flipped his pocket upside down. Therefore, it only took a tiny movement to let the case slip out.
Since the button on the case loosened, her business cards scattered over the floor. 'Shit. I totally forgot that the case was in the coat pocket...'
"You dropped a lot of...business cards.." She slowed down her words as she recognized the familiar design and colors. Bending down to retrieve one of them, her suspicions were confirmed. Clearing her throat, she asked, "May I ask why my business cards were in your possession?"
Smiling back at her, he answered, "Then you should ask yourself where we've met before. Once you remember, then the answer should naturally come to mind. If not, I'll tell you."
He wondered if he should tell her the truth, but that would be no fun at all! At the same time, if she thought more about him, then that would mean less about the things that made her upset. Grinning as he gathered her business cards, he said, "I'll look forward to your answer."
