Runaway

Sherry takes the scissors, and walks up to the cardboard. She cuts through the tape, pulling the carboard down and crawling through into a room filled with yellow wallpaper. A table in front of her has a computer on it, and the table next to it has some bins and beaker tubes. To her left is a bookshelf filled with various things she's never recalled seeing. She walks up to a door leading out into the hall, and presses an ear up against it. Nothing. She cautiously opens the door up, stepping out into the hall, the childish paintings on the walls giving the place a much more ominous feeling than it normally has. The lights in the ceiling struggle to light the place up, some moonlight flooding in from some windows down the hall to the right helping.

There's a door a few feet to the right slightly open. She hears a distant door open and close from that room. She walks up to the door, and sees a large crib has been put in the way, preventing her from being able to push it open. She continues down the hall, walking into the window's light, casting a shadow onto the ground behind her. She turns left and continues to the end of the hall where a tall drawer sits against the wall, right under an open window into the next room. It's just big enough for her to fit through. She heads over to the drawer, pulling open the second from the bottom one open, it's full of boxes. She climbs on top of it, then climbs onto the top of the drawer.

She drapes one leg over one end of the window, and then the other, lowering herself down into the next room as much as possible before letting go of the ledge and falling down. She lands without a sound. The room is filled with baby carriages and some blocks sit in far back right corner where the play area is. A door leading out into the main lobby is in the back right wall in the play area. A window a few feet away from the door looks out into the lobby.

Sherry walks over to the window, looking through. She quickly ducks when she sees the big scary man walking down the stairs. She stays crouched as she makes her way under a little archway made of blocks and heads to the door. She quietly opens the door, peeking out into the lobby area. She jumps a bit when she hears a door down below suddenly close shut. She looks around, before stepping out onto the small walkway. The lobby area is massive, with a small walkway against the back wall leading into the second floor. She walks along the walkway, a green carpet running along it. She makes her way downstairs, keeping one eye on a door in the lower back corner of the room. That must be where the big scary man went.

She hurries over to the front doors, and tries to open them, but they're locked. She remembers a key ring on the big scary man's belt. Hesitantly, she heads to the door he went through. She enters a dimly lit hallway that goes to the left. She heads down, peeking her head over the corner as the hall goes to the right. Several windows line the left wall, moonlight pouring in, casting the shadows of the windows onto the carpet. At the other end of the hall where it turns to the right again, is a window into another room. No one is around. Sherry quietly tip-toes her way down the hall. Old music suddenly starts to play as a shadow appears on the other side of the window. Sherry quickly ducks and freezes. The figure doesn't notice her.

Shaking, Sherry continues down the hallway, staying crouched. She turns the corner and walks up to a door. She slowly turns the knob trying not to make a sound and opens the door. She walks into a little corridor, made from several shelves to the left blocking off the rest of the room. They're lined with all sorts of thins, that make it hard to see the other side. She can hear the sounds of a woman struggling coming from the other side. Sherry walks around, to see a young woman with blonde hair in nothing but a white dress tied to a table. Several bottles lay on the table, right of her head, and one big one a few inches from her right hand.

A phonograph on a nearby table is playing music, several keys hanging up next to it. In a seperate part of the room, behind some curtains, the sound of sharpening knives can be heard.

The woman notices Sherry, stopping for a second, but then starts to pretend to try and break free. Sherry walk over to the woman and pulls out the scissors. Without saying anything, she starts cutting at one of the ropes, slowly, but surely, cutting through it. As she finishes cutting one of the ropes off, they hear the man start to talk.

"You know, you're going to be my most prized trophy of all," The man says in a creepy, and slightly excited tone. The woman gestures for Sherry to give her the scissors, and she does before running to the other side of the table and ducking behind it. The woman hides the scissors underneath her right wrist and pretends to still be tied up, draping the rope over her wrist.

"Now that I have the girl taken care of," The man steps out from behind some curtains and makes his way over to the woman, walking up to her left side. As he does this, Sherry quietly crawls to the others side so she's not spotted. The man puts the knives down on the table by the woman's legs and goes to grab a needle.

"Now, let's put you to-ah!" The man screams in pain as the women stabs the scissors into his next. As he stumbles back, the girl grabs the bottle by her hand and chucks it at him. It breaks apart in his face, the chemicals burning his skin. He screams in agony, falling backwards and starts choking on his own blood. After a few seconds, he stops moving.

"Thank you," The woman says with relieved breath as she glances down at Sherry with a heartfelt smile. The woman grabs one of the knives, using it to cut off the other ropes.

"M-My name's Sherry," Sherry states as the woman walks up to the man's corpse, what's your's?"

"Katherine," The woman replies. She kneels down and grabs the man's gun from its holster.

"Have you seen Claire at all?"

"I'm sorry, but, I don't know who that is,"

"She was at the police station,"

"The station. That's where Ben is," The woman mutters, "Come on, we need to get there as soon as possible, oh, please be alright Ben!" She states worriedly before she starts heading for the door to the hall.

"W-Wait!" Sherry stops her, grabbing her wrist, "We need, keys," Sherry runs over to the phonograph, and grabs all the keys off the wall. As she hurries back to Katherine, Katherine finds her shoes, and puts them back on. The two of them head back out to the main lobby. Sherry tries a couple keys before finding the one for the front doors. She unlocks them and tries to open them, but there's another lock on the outside. Sherry tries the other keys, and finds one that fits, the lock coming off and the doors opening up to the front courtyard.

"I'm coming," Katherine states as she steps out into the rain, finally free of the man.

"Don't worry Claire, I'll find you," Sherry states as she walks up to the woman's side, the two of them standing in the rain on the front steps of the orphanage. The streets just outside the courtyard walls are full of zombies.
