13 Rest

As Matt and his mother return from the library, he asks her if she needs his help for anything. It should be no surprise that he is met with a strong refusal.

"I'm fully recovered, Mom. you don't need to baby me."-Matt

"You will always be my baby, no matter how big you get. And if I don't see you resting all this week, I will teach you new definitions of tough love, courtesy of a tanned hide."-Mrs. Simmons says with a terrifying smile.

"I'll just be reading in my room then. Call me if you need help cooking dinner or something."-Matt says while walking away

"When did you learn how to cook? If you want, that shouldn't be against the doctor's orders."-Mrs. Simmons says doubtfully.

After Matt enters his room with his haul from the library, he closes the door.

I wish I could train my agility, I'd hate to use my free points on something that can go up so easily. I still have the mission reward for upgrading an ability as well that could come in handy later. Speaking of missions and abilities, now would be a good time to check out what's changed since my father son bonding time.

Reward: 1 point randomly added to strength or endurance.

Run 1 mile(0/1) repeatable

Assassinate twelve enemies (0/12)

I wish I knew what that mystery quest was, 60 skill points would be a great help for me right now. It looks like my class will give me quests too. I should've gotten some starter abilities from my class as well.

It looks like Shadow Whip and Disguise are my class abilities. Marksmanship must've been obtained from the fight with the spirit when I created Shadow Snipe. Assassination probably was created at the same time. These class skills seem a little simple but maybe appraisal can shine some light on them.

Appraisal

Disguise(1)- The ability to manipulate the light in your immediate surroundings. At low levels can only make your appearance distorted at limited locations on your body.

Shadow Whip(1)-A whip made of pure shadows. The whip can be modified by your mana, changing size, texture and density. As versatile as its user's creativity.

These are far more useful than they sounded. With a bit of practice I can do a lot with just these skills. I still need to investigate the disappearances in the city, but there is no easy way to get away with it while my Mom is watching me like a hawk. I guess for now I can only train my meditation, do my push ups mission, and of course read all these skill books. it shouldn't really matter where I start so I'll just begin with the languages.

After Matt picks up three different language books and obtains the knowledge on each language, he gets a notification to merge them into a new skill. *Ding* Prerequisites have been met, granted skill All Tongues Basic. Acquired skill, Learning Curve.

All Tongues Basic- Grants the ability to learn unknown languages quickly whether it is by reading or hearing it.

Learning Curve- Increases the rate at which you can learn a new skill or increase the proficiency of a learned skill.

Wanting to save the best for last, Matt then proceeds to read his archery book. As a pleasant surprise he manages to level up his shadow snipe and marksmanship skills. Moving on to his books about martial arts, he increases his Basic Martial Arts Mastery to the Intermediate level. Next he slowly reads through the book about ancient religions, hoping to find some mention of 'Void' or 'Abyss.' Such a powerful being can't be completely unknown, there has to be some information recorded somewhere that can tell Matt a little more about his father. While flipping through the pages, he finds mentions of dark cults that worship something that could be linked to his father. Unfortunately the text is more picture than words at this point. The pictures are largely runic in nature and impossible to understand for all but the most studious of researchers, but Matt has a nice affinity to learning languages. After a few moments of looking at the various runes, Matt starts to understand that they record a summoning ritual.
