My guess is he finds a way of Improving his magic control to be closer to the source like the elves. Also guessing he will have to translate that summoner spell into human magic snd the improve it

The elves are gonna have a problem with him soon. Maybe, though, this will train him to have more precise magic control and in turn help with enchanting!

Roland has to now find/make an item that lets him cast elven spells or brute force it so that he becomes a grandmaster

Roland should have kept that pettle from the World Tree. It could have given him the ability to do elven spells.
