War Mage (605 words)

Year 63 of the five-empire calendar which was introduced after the end of the over a century long war between all the countries and kingdoms on Uziamar, a world with a single super continent that fractured upon the arrival of the five source meteors.

With the arrival of the meteors came the source crystals who later gave rise to the first mages on this planet and changed the way wars were fought forever.

The five countries nearest to the meteors claimed them and monopolized the crystals and in turn the mages.

Like that the five countries swept over the now fractured continent and swallowed up all the smaller countries that did not have access to this new resource within mere decades ending the over a hundred yearlong world war… for fifty years that is.

Once only five countries, all with access to source crystals and mages remained, they agreed to a cease fire for fifty years in which they would stabilize their countries after having gone through such an enormous growth.

This held true and the world entered a time of peace of prosperity and enormous growth, until the agreement reached its end.

None of the five countries that have become full fledged empires had even thought about leaving the times of war behind forever.

War and conquest were so deeply engraved in this world's history that it was just normal to continue.

And so, a new war broke out, pridefully called the "True War".

13 years have passed since it began and the differences between a war in which a country with mages fights against one without, and one in which two countries with mages go up against each other became imminent.

While the troops on the ground sit in trenches at the edges of the no-man's land, squads of mages fly high above fighting against each other with their spell formulas.

They fight complicate battles over who controls the weather, kinetic storms that rage through the sky and hails of homing fire spewing from the muzzles of their guns.

If at the end of it all even one enemy mage remains, then the whole battlefield is lost.

There's just so little none-mages can do against a true mage with their kinetic shields and explosion formulas that can blow up even the toughest of tanks.

With forces like these on the field all five empires of course rush to make sure that they always have enough mages on their own side in order to prevent a situation like that.

And that is the reason why I, a six-year-old girl with pale blond hair and emerald, green eyes was admitted into the first class of the Arcanum Academy.

As the daughter of a noble house near the capital one would think that my parents had a say in the matter of their daughter being taken to be trained to become one of the strongest weapons of their country, but no, they don't.

The Alesiak Empire also known as the blue empire thanks to their mages magic glowing blue just like the source crystal growing on the meteor that it claimed, encompasses most of the northern space on the fractured super continent and is covered in snow for the most part of the year.

It, like its four rivals, is a militaristic country and as such there is nothing more important than the military and its resources.

Nobles and the like have nothing to say in the face of a military officer.

In order to become a mage, one has to be injected with resolution made from the crystals growing on one of the five meteors.
