Even though Derek doesn't feel "the love" and just attracted to Angela bcoz she's a beauty, at least he reminded her at the crucial moment (which is really heartbreaking for Angela bcoz she thought he's also fallen for her - just like she did for him). If he hadn't said anything but did the deed and left her just like a fling, that would hv been too hard for Angela.
