Chapter 10

Xyris P.O.V.

'Do you think hiding under your mate's wings will stop me? Hide and seek is over, I'll catch you my golden butterfly.'

The message doesn't really sounds cryptic however what made it stands out is the fact that it was written with a blood. From the letter, my eyes move to the man that is now towering me. He is looking at me intently as if trying to read my emotions about the letter. 

"Aren't you going to confess something?" Alpha Kaige asks.

The waves of anger that he gives off is an indication that despite of his calm appearance, he is a bomb waiting to explode. Too bad for me because it seems that I am the one who's holding the button to activate it. The fire in his eyes is starting to burn my skin—not literally but the mild burning sensation cause by his fiery gaze is warming me up. Slowly calming the fear that's eating me few minutes ago.

Weird, few minutes ago I feel like as if I am about to lost my consciousness in anxiety but in just a matter of seconds after he close his distance to me I suddenly feel safe. I huff! So this is matebond?

Now that my fear is gone my attention went back to the current situation I am in. My mate's eyes is throwing dagger at me, probably angry at the fact that I lied to him, to all of them.

I take a deep breath and shrug my shoulder, completely unaffected of the Alpha's anger. He is my mate, he can be angry all he want but I am confident that he won't do anything that will harm me.

"Nothing that really concerns you." I smirk turn my back on him.

My answers seems to push that small button that's keeping his patience. His anger rolled off him and  the next thing I knew is he was already holding me, pinning my small frame between the table and his muscular body.

Tumalim ang mata ko sa ginawi nito. The anger that I held for that faceless coward is now slowly showing up. My eyes look up to him with an equal rage. The fire continue to dance behind those deep black eyes, burning every inch of my reasonings. The low growl that he is emiting is a proof that he is barely holding it on to his wolf. His eyes is full on predatory and I know he wanted me to submit.

Lalong tumalim ang mga mata ko rito. I am scared, and him preying on me to get information is not helping my current situation. He is my mate, but that doesn't give him the right to force me to his demands.

"My life is none of your business so stop bothering me over a piece of crap!" I hissed.

I tried pulling my arm from his hold but he seems determined to get answer about what happened.

I am angry but I can also feel that his wolf is beyond livid and my stubborn attitude is definitely not helping hiim keep his patience.

"Xyris, I know that you are thinking that you can definitely handle this by yourself perfectly. However, the letter comes from a rogue and from the looks of it, the one who is after you is a powerful one. You might think that we have nothing to do about this but you are wrong. If rogues are willing to enter the Duskfall Island without fear or hesitation just to get you then you must be something that is of important to them. We, as leaders have a job to protect our packs. I do not know who you are to them but if capturing you means harm for us in the future, then we have a say in this." Sabay na nabaling ang tingin namin ni Kaige kay Brandon.

I can't help but smirk as his words. He is a beta for a reason and he knows perfectly what is the right words to speak for the situation.

I take a deep breath upon feeling Kaige's hand loosen at my arm. I guess, I don't have much choice this time but to confess.

I take the seat near me and my mind went back to the time when all of this shit started.

"To be honest, I do not know. All I know is that it started when I was six years old. Someone keeps on sending a letter to me in my birthday, a warning, a message that I belong to him." my words came out only as a whisper but I know that is enough for them to hear it.

Napuna ko ang pagdilim ng mga mata ni Kaige sa sinabi ko. "You've been receiving the letter since you are a child yet you did not take it seriously?" I can feel his anger and rage at my careless behavior.

Tumaas ang kilay ko rito. "Listen, this is something that I can perfectly handle myself. I manage to get away from their claws in the past 15 years so why bother now?" Pangangatwiran ko rito.

"Hiding under your mate's wings?" Brandon read the letter and is now eyeing her with a keen interest.

"Now that is interesting, you were mated to a werewolf. I am with you since your 2nd day in this island but I never thought you were destined to one of us." Dugtong nito.

I can't help but swallow in fear. Now that Brandon mentioned it,

"How did they know I was mated to a werewolf?"

Words left my mouth too quick without me comprehending the impact of it to those who would hear it. My eyes turn to the man in front of me. His deep black eyes met mine and right at that moment, I know he can already feel our connection, the confirmation he needs to substantiate his conclusion.

Kaige's P.O.V.

"Fuck!" I hissed in anger. It seems that this ordeal has deeper roots than I thought.

I look at the woman who started all of this ruckus. I can see the fear in her eyes and my wolf is literally torturing me to ease her but I choose to keep our distance.

Bumalik sa ala ala ko ang nangyari kahapon malapit sa dalampasigan. She knows that she is my mate even before this happened but how?

Aside from that, why is that rogue after her anyway? I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with her being mated to me but my gut feeling is telling me that it is more than that.

Mates is the least important thing to their pack so why would the rogues bother on getting her if they know that they cannot used her against him and his pack? Questions started to pops up on my mind while looking at the beautiful woman in front of me.

Surely, she looks vulnerable at the moment but I knew better, the witch is right. She is more than a human, for how could she know that she is mated to me without a confirmation from me and my wolf? Human cannot identify the bond.

Kumuyom ang kamao ko ng marealize iyon. My eyes turns to my beta. "Xavier, prepare a room for Xyris in the pack house. I need you to keep an eye on her until the rogue has been caught and we are able to confirm their motive."

From my peripheral vission, I can see the eyes of my mate rage in fire. She's feisty. I wonder if she will hold that same fire in my bed. That would be an interesting scene to watch.

"I'm utterly thankful for your kind gestures but I'm leaving this island first thing tomorrow so don't bother." She growled sarcastically. Her breast is slowly moving up and down due to her ragged breathing. The sight is quite to enthralling to watch really.

I let out a smirk at her insolence behavior. Give it to this woman to turn me on and irritate me at the same time.

"Try me Xyris, try to leave the island tomorrow and you will see how I deal with such kind of behavior." My voice is holding a threat. I would really love to see her try to escape, that way I'll have an excuse to punish her.

"Are you threatening me Alpha?" She ask, challenging him.

I bend down a bit for our height to match. I hold her chin with my thumb, capturing her fiery eyes with mine.

"I am not, I am telling you what will happened to you the moment you go against my order." I made sure to speak every word in willful manner to ensure that she understand that I mean what I've said.

Xyris P.O.V.

"You are letting a human stay to the pack house?"

Our attention was captured by an old man who is standing near the table where Kaige is seated before this whole shit started. I identify him as the previous alpha of the pack, my mate's father.

"Are you out of your mind Kaige? Have you forgotten everything already? I don't care if she is your mate or not, she is not someone of importance. It will be better if we choose to hand her to the rogues."

My eyes burn in anger at hiw words. Without me even realizing it, my eyes immediately turns to golden brown color.

In just a second, I am already in the front of the old man who dared to disrespect me. I grab the sleeves of his shirt as I tried my best to contain my anger. I feel livid but the fact that this mutt is the father of my asshole of a mate is preventing me from draining his soul out of him.

"Listen old man, I don't care if you are the previous Alpha of this pack, I don't care if I am a stranger in your territory. I am destined to be the Luna of this pack and trust me when I tell you that I can have the position without a sweat if I wanted to. Dare to speak like that again in front of me and I will assure you that I'll be the one to personally drag your soul in the deepest pit of hell in exchange for wild black roses." I hissed.

My dryad side takeover without even me noticing it, my breath is uneven and very heavy. My human side is already terrified with the idea of the group of rogues that is after me and my power. Having another threat to my safety is not really something that I can deal at the moment. She never wanted any of this.

"Luna, I believe this day has been exhausting enough for you already. Let me accompany you to the pack house for you to take a rest." Our eyes landed to least expected person I think to acknowledge me as the Alpha female of the pack.

"I know that you are completely against with it however it is a necessary action for us to ensure the safety of the pack. I hope you understand that before we can let you leave, we need to make sure that this will not affect our pack negatively." I take a deep breath to calm myself as Annalise words hits me directly with guilt.

The air around us became less suffocated as I started to calm myself. Slowly, my eyes turns back to its normal color. I can feel curious gazes of the people around us. The golden dust that starts to scattered around the room slowly disappear.

Right then and there I wanted to curse myself. How could I forget that I am not alone in this room? I just gave them an idea on who I am and why the rogues wanted me. Kaige is now looking at me with questioning eyes. It is clear that none of them expected my sudden outburst.

I was taken by fear but it is not an excuse for me to act without thinking the consequences of my decisions. Though I am confident that my dryad side will be there to protect me, my fear is I do not know who my enemy is. I do not know how strong they are and what they knew about me. It was very frightening especially that they have been watching me since I was a child without me noticing it.

I nodded at her words as I release the old man from my tight grip. I walk towards the close door of the café and open it, following the path towards the midst of the forest. I just wanted to avoid more questioning coming from my mate. Annalise and two warriors followed me from behind. Ensuring that the attack won't happen  again.
