The Red decoy

"I never imagined a simple mistake would lead to what people call an apocalypse."

I mumbled faintly to myself, of course I was writing in my journal about my miserable life. Turning the pages on my journal back to May 21 1201, a year before present day.

Present day

My 16th birthday was coming up, uncle told me I was too old for gifts. " alright for your birthday I'll grant you a gift, I'll read you and your siblings a story." A story? That's more childish than anything, I thought to myself.

"My children gather around your older brother Navia(Nav-yá)."

The children of the orphanage raced towards me, all trying to form a circle but failed. A slight giggle was released, Gora was giggling too. She threw herself on my lap.

"Gora you've grown so much!" I told her to get her off my lap. "I'm 8, that's not big at all! Your the old one here!" After a little squabble she gained victory and sat on my lap, it gave me a big smile.

"there once was a stubborn yet adventurous girl who always wore red no matter the occasion, she'd play in the forest morning til nigh-"

the loud banging on the door interrupted my uncle. The banging on the door grew lower as my uncles voice was heard, reassuring the unknown that he'll open the door.

I wasn't surprised when i saw two soldiers standing firmly outside the door waiting for it to be opened.

"SIR! we are in desperate need of new recruits for training!"

My uncle is the chief of a small village by the name of Hortland, which would explain why two soldiers are in front of our door.

Uncle looked at me as if he was expecting me to say something, of course me without thinking volunteered for death. We train everyday to prepare ourself for the October, the month of death.

Every year a village gets torn apart by man-eating spirits that imitate the form of a red Cardinal, flocks of these birds enter villages and demolish landmarks, homes, and to eliminate the human race.

Fortunately our ancestors have built walls surrounding the village and what's inside of it, they stand to a hight of 1000 ft.

These walls were made out of iron and to our knowledge it's the strongest metal on earth, but all these facts could've just been mere myths, rumors.

Our village just accepted the fact that there were monstrous demons outside of these walls waiting to devour us all.

The reason to my hypothesis is that our village never experienced any abnormal activity, no blood thirsty monsters lurking around the walls.

Neither were there any neighboring villages that we know of experienced any of this, we aren't even sure if there's any humans outside these walls, maybe we were the only ones left of mankind.

The point is we have no knowledge of what's out there, but one thing for sure if these beasts actually exist is that I,

Navia will extinguish these monsters and that's my top priority.
