The following morning, Unma told her Mom, Ita , that Ador slept soundly with Dev's photo underneath her pillow. She also said that she caught Ador , stealthily taking out the photo and admiring Dev. There was a foolish expression in Ador's face and she was all smiles while she was sleeping.
When Ador woke up, her mom and Unma were teasing her. " Was it love at first sight or a first crush??" Unma asked. Ita asked her what she dreamt of last night, and the two of them giggled. Ador felt wronged and became serious. She told Ita that though she liked him, like in first glance, but maybe they would not accept her. Ita became serious and asked her why Ador was being too judgemental.
Ador defined her lackings seriously for the marriage proposal to move a step forward. She said " Point one, he is handsome, rich, smart, I am an ordinary girl, average looking, not rich though witty at times. Secondly he is a feet taller, in height, than me. So we would not look good together side by side. Plus he is slim and I am all chubbiness. Finally the family is full of airs and graces, the haughty types whereas we are humble. It will not be a good match. They might not be interested."
Ita said, not to worry. It was just an experience for the entire family. If things do not go , in the road of marriage, she would look for better boys.
Unma said not to worry. She had his number. If Ador feels like, they can do the first call and take the initial step, towards being friends.
Ador hearing all words of encouragement, was in a happy mood and again started to steal glances at Dev's photo. Kir, heard from Ita, that Ador was all worries, like as in, she was waiting for the test results with the view point of getting less grades and rejected, and how Unma and Ita, were trying to bring her in a positive frame, suggesting that the would be mother -in- law might be impressed with Ador. Kir laughed at the cute family of his. Actually he too was a bit worried as no news came.
Three days passed, no news. Six days passed, and Ador was in a bitter mood. She approached Kir and told him to give a call to Bali. She then went to work, like usual, as Dussehra was over, but in low spirits.
In the meanwhile, Ita shared the news with Didun n Tukul. Didun felt bad for her grand daughter. She called Ador and said not to tense up and leave some things to God.
Bali received the call and said, since he wanted the best for his only son, they were still answering some phone calls and attending some would be bride parties, for match making. So, if Kir and family are in a hurry, they can proceed with the look out for other prospective groom to be. Bali also said that they were on way to Kalighat, to meet another girl, who can sing Rabindrasangeet well.
Rabindranath Tagore is a well know poet of India, who had written many poems and songs. He had won the Nobel Prize for literature. If a girl can sing a Rabindra Sangeet or dance a Rabindra Nritya, it earns her brownie points either in school or college and in matrimonial aspect too.
Kir was at a loss of words. For the first time, he was stuck with words in his throat that refused to form sentences to continue the conversation normally. He said, "Dev is a good boy, my blessings are always with him"and disconnected the call.
