Injured at Hogwarts

The normally tidy infirmary is a mess as wounded students are brought in by fellow distraught students. Before the arrival of the Aurors and allies, countless students fled with the injured in tow to the safety of Hogwarts. (Those left behind at Hogsmeade are tended to by the healers and directly transported to St. Mungo's.)

The matron of Hogwarts, Madam Poppy Pomfrey rushes about trying to tend to the wounded. Her red dress is stained including her white apron and matron cap. She tends to the worst of the wounded first trying to stop the bleeding. She is assisted by various other staff members who help where they can.

Madam Rolonda Hooch's short-frazzled hair is even more frazzled, and her yellow-like eyes are usually somber as she helps Professor Pomona Sprout place Lorcan D'Eath into a deep slumber. The poor first year already traumatized by the death of his mother had woken up screaming at the sight of the wounded pouring in.

The squat figure of Professor Sprout can be seen suppressing tears and putting the child under. She had been among those who had been convinced that Lorcan D'Eath was merely having a flashback. How terribly they had all been. If only they had listened.

On the other side of the infirmary, the tall dark-haired Professor Sinatra's chocolate-colored skin is a sickly gray. Her chocolate eyes are gloomy and her sharp cheekbones and prominent straight nose make her look gaunt. With a grim expression, she aids Professor McGonagall in transfiguring more linen beds for the influx of students.

Professor McGonagall despite the occasion is neat as always. Her seek hair is pulled back with a pair of square glasses that sit firmly on the bridge of her nose. "Professor Flitwick and Professor Kettleburn, please commence emergency aid. I know the two of you have an ample study of the healing arts given the nature of your profession."

The tiny, Professor Flitwick gives a sharp nod and without a trace of hesitation begins to stop the bleeding of a third year from a profuse head wound. With a grim expression, Professor Kettleburn does much the same having lost most of his limbs at one point or another, he knows the basic of healing arts to preserve his life.

"Professor Vector and Professor Snipe, I will trouble you to contact the Aurors and allies," Professor McGonagall barked setting the two professors off at a swift pace.

"Professor Boas, Mortimer, and Master Strauss, I will trouble you to use all of your skills for potions. We need them as swiftly as possible."

"If I may interrupt," interjected Professor Mortimer with a grim expression. "My cousin, Ames Seymour is here along with my (French) cousins, Lorraine, Leyna, Valencia, Serene, Argene, Minyonette, and Amadine. Cousin Ames is a mediwizard and my six younger cousins are training under Cousin Ames in mediwizardy, might I offer the use of their services?"

"They are most urgently needed," interrupted Madam Poppy wiping the sweat off her, before conjuring a linen bed and squeezing it right next to another bed. "Mr. Peterson and Mr. Peterson, please set her here."

The tall, muscular, and dark identical brothers, Trevor and Gary Peterson carefully set a sniffling sixth year with a horrible gash on her thigh. The two brothers nod their heads, before briskly setting off to help the next patient.

Professor Mortimer turns and says, "Please meet me in the dungeons, I shall inform my cousins of the news."

"No need, Eponine," said the brisk voice of a slightly plump wizard with a dashing golden mustache and somber, but bright enchanting eyes like that of his grandmother, Ethel Greengrass. Ames Seymour rolls up his sleeve and briskly turns towards the six enchanting women with golden hair and bright eyes following close behind him.

"Lorraine and Leyna, begin cataloging the wounded by order of injury. We need to send those too severely wounded to St. Mungos as soon as possible. Every second counts!" The two golden-haired young women briskly nod their heads and set off.

"Valencia and Serene assist the infirmary matron. Minyonnette and Amadine with me," Ames briskly ordered, before setting off to tend the wounded.

The remaining professors are instructed by Professor McGonagall to run various tasks including calming the remaining students and the uninjured students who are returning from Hogsmeade. The Professors rally and gather the students in the Great Hall setting up cots and areas of rest. The Great Hall is filled with the sound of crying and those shaking still in terror. The Professors order the house elves to bring hot chocolate doused with strong calming droughts and platters of small snacks.

The house elves immediately comply with the instructions, while other house elves commence the task of transporting the worst of the wounded to St. Mungo's. A wizard or witch cannot apperate on Hogwarts grounds, but the Hogwarts wards do not prevent a house elf from doing so. A policy loophole that had been addressed by the (paranoid) Chairman Malfoy which only permitted the Hogwarts house elves from doing so on the grounds of Hogwarts under a set of strict circumstances or that of an emergency. The Hogwarts wards had been sufficiently adjusted by Headmaster Albus Dumbledore at the time to comply with the request of the Hogwarts Board.

At one point, (the Hogwarts librarian) Madam Irma Pince-Filch sobs in the arms of her husband in a corner of the hall, Caretaker Filch. With the arrival of the Aurors and allies including the A.P.D. and the healers, the bodies of the dead were carried to Hogwarts to be temporarily stored. In an empty classroom on the first floor, the bodies of the villagers and a handful of students are gently laid out.

Madam Pince-Filch is among the staff requested to identify the student corpses or remnants. She had been able to recognize every one of them except for the remnants of a single student. T'was young Lockhart and young Chittock, who had been able to correctly identify the remnant of their former classmate as Jacob Clayton, a first-year Hufflepuff upon the request of the Aurors seeking to identify the last or rather remnants of the last corpse.

The worst cases are transported to St. Mungos. The rest of the wounded are housed in the Hogwarts infirmary spilling into the corridors and nearby classrooms as the infirmary was not large enough to accommodate the entire student body. The majority of the students would be immediately sent home the following morning on the Hogwarts Express. The only students remaining behind would be those in the infirmary. These students would be released into the custody of their parents or guardian upon being deemed stable.

Naturally, the corpses of the dead would also be delivered on the morrow to the respective families. All student funeral costs would be covered by the Hogwarts Board. The Ministry of Magic would cover the funeral costs of those lost at Hogsmeade. A small reprieve in the grand scheme of things.

With the emergency on hand, all Prefects, who are able to are tasked to watch over the students and comfort those they can. Unfortunately, only five of the (eight) Prefects are readily available, Remus Lupin, Lily Evans, Severus Snape, Pandora Ravine, and David Goldstein.

With cursed scaring across the face, Andrew Abbott had to be immediately treated lest the effect of the dark curse spread. The same issue presented itself with Olympia Branstone, who had also suffered several curse marks. Last but not least, Rowan Prince, who is presently unconscious in the infirmary.

As for Head Boy Darcy Travers and Head Girl Madley cannot leave despite their urgency and desire to be at Barrett Boone's side. Their duties came first, but come morning, they would be escorting the students to the Hogwarts Express. Time could not pass fast enough for them, but it would be a long night for many.
