After the great magical invasion whereby monster invade and terrorize the world, humanity must find a way to survive. The story follows a boy who loses his family to an invasion of monsters and makes it his mission to get back what he lost. Will he find what he so dearly seeks. Will he ever find a reason to smile.?
In the year 2003, human experienced the end of the world. A phenomena that was unexplained but referred to as the magical invasion. Magic flowed into our world and things went south quickly. As it flowed in so did its terrors. Fairies, monsters of unspeakable power, dragons, vampires and other mystical creatures flowed in as well. Human tried to hold their ground with our technology in a futile attempt to fend off these creatures. Humans fought to no avail. Nuclear missiles that humans were so proud of were dissipated in a matter of seconds. It was obvious that humans were weak and an inferior race and there was only one thing to do, to either adapt and survive or be utterly destroyed. Humans began using the magic that came with the monsters and we managed to hold our own. Humans began to create alliances where they could and soon the horrors died down.
Soon we began forming schools and associations for mages that stood against evil and destruction that some monsters were wrecking. At the same time we were trying to find out why, where and how magic came to this world. Being a mage became an important occupation that became popular around the world and since it was held it such high regard, becoming one meant fame and fortune. In the end humans became greedy and became mages because of it but that wasn't as simple as it sounded. Not every human had an affinity to magic and that left those without in poverty and they were labelled commoners. They became merchants, blacksmiths, farmers and other lowly work that people could think of to survive. Since our old technology stopped working with the magic that came into existence, humans had to think of new ways to adjust with the new changes and magic was incorporated into our daily lives. Magic in the air crystallized to make ether-nano that mostly appeared underground and that's why most common men would work as miners for minimum wage before they had enough money to own their own blacksmith shops to sell weapons to people and hopefully to mage schools and associations. Other material were mined too but ether-nano was an important commodity that came in handy to power machines and also used as ingredients for crafting high level items and enchantments. Most common women would become farmers and later on become merchants who sold gear to mages and adventures.
Since governments were destroyed during the magical invasion, monarchs were made and those who are the most powerful in a country would become royalty until they died and a new successor would be sought for through magical games that were held annually and the champion of these games will be given the title of crown prince. The higher the magical affinity and ability one had, the higher the status as a noble. Nobles lived in the wealthy side of each continent and mostly became mages that hunted mystical creatures and took on dangerous missions. Everyone aspired to become a high level noble for different reasons that some would go to the ends of the earth and back for it. Monsters had valuable items such as their hide that sold for high prices and if you had the skill then you would live a life of luxury. After hundreds of years of all this madness, mankind has not changed but has become a part of it. Is mankind truly worth the blood sweat and tears?
To truly understand what it means to be powerful, one must embrace the monster that 99% of humans aren't.
