Pathetic

The both of them were bigger in size and stronger than me. The only thing I had on them was speed. I was faster and I had to make sure I attacked before they could. And I had to make my attack count.

The guy with the broken leg had my son when he fell on his good knee to support himself. I took my son and ran ahead of them to lay him down on the side.

It had all happened in under ten seconds so the other guy didn't have time to stop me, considering he didn't know I wasn't going to engage him but his friend till I had jumped off of a tree and kicked his friend's leg.

I expected him to come after me as I put my baby on the ground. And he did. I had a punch coming straight towards my head as I turned around. Yeah, if I had just realized that I had underestimated my enemy, then I would also try to knock them out when they were distracted. But I wasn't distracted.

I turned a little more and lifted my left shoulder to take the punch there instead of my forehead. I went with the momentum of the punch, took a complete 360 degree turn, pulled my knife from my waist with my right hand and slit his throat. I don't think he had time to register what had just happened.

The other guy left alive looked surprised when his friend gurgled as blood flowed out from his throat and mouth. I didn't wait around for that and made my way to the one with the broken leg. He tried to stand up but there wasn't even a tree in his reach for support. I slowed down and watched him struggle as he tried to stand up with a broken leg and failed. I watched as he crawled his way to a tree. It was pathetic and it was beneath me to kill a helpless man. But this helpless man had tried to kidnap my son and none of my people were here to finish him. I had no option other than killing him.

"Stop," I said.

He didn't listen. His friend was still gurgling, though he had stopped moving too much.

Delaying this won't help, I thought. I sighed and made my way towards him. He had reached a tree and used his good leg to lean on it. He fumbled with his left pant pocket near his bad knee to take out his weapon, I think. I don't know what he was trying to do since my knife nailed him through his forehead during his struggle to take out whatever it was. I walked closer and removed my knife from his forehead and watched as his body slumped down to the ground. Then I put the knife back in the sheath near my waist. I went through both the dead bodies and came up with two cellphones, some petty cash and car keys. They weren't going too far.

I picked up my son, who was still in his favorite blue pants. They were now dirty from the forest floor. I hoped there weren't any permanent stains because he really loved these. My son had my brunette hair and his father's green eyes. He had a pointy chin like mine and my husband's full lips. His fair baby skin looked pale which I thought was because of the drug the kidnappers gave him.

As I tried to find my way back, out of this forest, I thought about how our mother-son time without bodyguards would be put on hold for a few months. I shouldn't have killed them so easily.

I followed the tracks our footprints had left but as I got to the denser parts, dusk had arrived and it was getting difficult to see. I took out my phone from the front pocket of my jeans and used the in-built torch. It had 60% battery so it should last for a long time. It didn't have any network, as I expected, so my only option was to retrace the path I had taken earlier.
