"A large fraction of atoms collapse into the lowest quantum state, under supercooled conditions. At some point quantum effects become apparent on a macroscopic scale... Taking a common element, H2O on account. We all know it freezes at 0 degrees Celsius, about 273 Kelvin far from Absolute Zero..."
The speaker today was one of the esteemed professors of Thermodynamics-Physics from MIT. Students present intently listen to lecture. With keen interest, Zaf jot down notes as if she were part of the Chemistry Program.
The professor explained the effects of molecular vibrations on the space betweem molecules and how heat contributes to the frequency of vibrations. Not long it's time for the open forum where students pose their questions one after the other. Including there is Zaf, "I am Zafkiel Silverborne from the Department of Psychology. Uhm is it possible that the equation be done in opposite? For instance if water molecules were to vibrate instead will it generate heat? And if vibrations hit up a certain frequency will it be able to generate plasma?"
"Well molecules needs outside factors for it respond. In logic, a stimulus like factor for it to move. As discussed earlier, the stimulus we took to account is heat. However, on theory if another stimuli be brought forth let say a magnetic field or wave, light, sound whatnot those that could trigger molecules to vibrate then, yes. It could create heat. Now about that, well this remains in theory but as you could deduce water is present in 3 states of matter and remains stable despite its change. If molecules of water be in perfect stillness, then its molecules be bonded more stronger than the bonding present in a solid ice that has molecular vibrations close to nil. Apply heat then the distance between molecules expand, increase the heat then it boils and evaporates. Increasing the vibrations more through heat would create kenetic energy. And Plasma in a sense is pure kenetic."
Many students were baffled, the fact that a Psychology major was present and could pose a intriguing question. Because of this insight more students ask more and more like is such only applicable to H2O or the magnetic field in objects.
Now it's about time to wrap things up. With the seminar ending and students started to dispurse a particular ball of blonde hair was seen lurking by the doors of the Seminar hall.
"Zafruit!"
"Please don't call me that. And what are ypu doing here anyway?"
"Want to grab a bite? And I looked into some of the dissertions I would like to consult you about something I've read."
"No. My brother's making dinner at home. But you can tell me about this tomorrow," she said.
"Ok thank you. Then I'll walk you home," he replied.
"Cute. You know all this you placating me wouldn't help you with Professor Augustus."
Adriel just laugh, acknowledging her point. Still though he walk her towards her apartment, surprised how near it was to his residence, just half a block away.
"Tomorrow morning ok? In Café Marley." He wink but before he could land a step away.
"How about lunch? I still have to drop by West Green, my car was still parked there..."
"Then West Green is it. At 11."
"Hah. Fine," she said as she saw him leave.
By door, one could hear the all so familiar theme song of GoT however as soon as Zaf stepped inside their home practically no one was there. But before everything turn into a full blown man hunt, Ethan just arrived with bags on his hands.
"Oh Sis." he smiled, his charming copper eyes were like cresent moons.
"I thought you were making dinner not picking up Chinese Takeouts," she said ruffling her little brother's auburn hair.
"I thought you would prefer a more edible meal," he said taking each container out of the bag.
Waft of tasteful seasonings, engulf the room when Ethan was done setting up dinner. It was truly bountiful, stir fry noodles, Szechwan Chili Chicken, Shitake Fried rice with water chestnuts, spring rolls, and of course Miso Soup.
"Shoti outdone himself with these feast," Zaf commented as she seated herself.
With Whitewalkers in the background, the two siblings enjoyed their dinner in content.
"Hmmh by the way I learned something new. Would you help me test my theory later?" Zaf said.
Her little brother looked at her questioningly but nodded nonetheless. Not long they finished their meal and now it is her turn to clean up. She gathered the paper plates and utensils, running a bit of water on them, she placed all of them on their compose by the backyard.
After a bit of cleaning up on herself and a change of clothes, she went to her brother who is now engrossed on the television.
"Do I need to reschedule?" she chuckled, which caught his attention.
"Ahh Sis what is it?" he asked, lowering the sound of the tv.
"How adeptly can you detect changes in temperature?" she asked as she placed a glass of water atop their coffee table.
"I think if I really try, I can feel even minute changes, but they aren't consistent enough for me..." he answered truthfully.
"Alright. Let's test it first..." With that said the water inside the glass immediately froze.
She let her brother close his eyes so he could focus and test outthe theory.
"Tell me what you detect ok?" Quietly Zaf begun shifting the ics back to water then evaporating it back to gas.
"Hmmh, there's a slight production of heat... but it's too subtle for me to notice unless I am specifically looking for it," he answered opening his eyes.
"So we're connected, that's not rocket science, Sis. As a fyriad, I can generate heat from nothing and turn them to fire that I can manipulate and you a hydriad uses water to best of its ability," he said.
"That's not the rocket science part... I learned today that heat when applied could cause a disturbance in the vibrations of molecules. Taking my ability for example, instead I'm the one who causes those vibrations in turn it allows me to manipulate the state of that water, bypassing the need for heat. What I'm saying is, the concept of vibrations is not boxed in water alone. Though not adeptly as other types of titan, you can change any element and its form and composition," she began to explain.
"I think we have discussed it in school earlier. Nuclear equation with heat used as catalyst..." Ethan thought for a while.
"Exactly. If you could control fire in just mere form extreme heat then it could be a breakthrough in your training," Zaf said.
"Are you saying that I could use this as a weapon? But aren't Fyriads supposed to be controlling fire and not trolling the other elements?" he asked.
His choice of words made Zaf chuckle.
"Hmmh what's fun in being conventional? You are the 3rd Master of the Silver City. Being a little eccentric in our use of our abilities is a Silver trait."
'I use to think that she is great because of her talent and because Uncle trained her. But really because of her nonstop theory testing what allows her to hone her skill...' Ethan thought.
"Oi. Ethaniel Claude Argentia are you even still listening?!"
