Death By Lazing About

The afternoon sun radiated throughout the room, illuminating it with the peaceful color of autumn. Complete silence can be heard with the exception of the occasional passing cars.

Luke slept like a rock as he buried himself in layers and layers of blankets. His dashing feautures was painted with alluring stillness.

The serene silence persisted until the room was eventually greeted by the abrupt sound of Luke's alarm, jolting him awake. He made a grunting sound before looking at his phone with only one eye opened.

'Mom's Reminder: Get out of bed you lazy bum! Get yourself ready and come to your Uncle's house, we're waiting! '

Luke only shut down his phone after looking at the note his mother left him. He once again tucked himself in bed, counting sheeps as his eyes lids drooped down, this time for eternity.

"Hey, did you hear about the recent accident near our area? "

"Yeah, I heard that it was pretty gruesome. The family was clearly devastated...Who wouldn't be really. Their son was murdered in his sleep and most of their valuable possessions were even stolen. "

"But hey.. did you know that one of the victim's sibling said that he shouldn't have died if he was not always lazing about. "

"Ah? What does that mean? "

"I don't know myself but I can say that the one who said that clearly wasn't that sad about his death"

"How can that be? Aren't they family? "

" I heard that the person who passed away was more favored by his parents. After all his siblings really pales in comparison. One was always skipping school to waste money at bars while the other even went to prison once! "

"That's awful... But how do you even know that much? "

"Well my daughter attends the same school as the deceased young lad so she unconsciously told me some things. She blabbered on about how he topped every test and how much of a hunky heartthrob he is, which is clearly a bad omen considering how my daughter's wails lasted for 3 nights! "

"Hahaha! So that's where those eye bags came from"

"Sigh.. I don't even want to talk about it"

"But that young man clearly had a promising chance to become successful in the future. "

"I know right? But Sigh.... He wasnt even allowed to have an intact body! "

"What!?"

"I heard that the murderer went crazy on his face, stabbing it several times. Police even speculated that the murderer might be someone close to him and the motive must have been jealousy. The parents didnt want their son to be remembered by his mangled face so they decided to cremate him instead "

"Such a horrible thing.... Sigh I guess the only thing that we can do is to pray for his soul. "

"Hm.... You're right"

------

The birds chirped as the vibrant flowers swayed with the passing wind. The fallen leaves fluttered and scattered about, as the wind exchanged in intensity.

'Cold.. '

Luke was still half asleep. He shivered at the cold sensation brushing at his 'skin', oblivious to the leaves that fell to the ground with his tremor.

Luke grew vexed with the frosty sensation that sent shivers to his body, so despite not wanting to move, he begrudgingly forced his hands to reach for a blanket to drape on his freezing body. However he found himself unable to do so, as he wasn't able to sense the presense of his limbs. Confused, he decided to open his eyes, but he found himself even more baffled.

His vision abruptly opened without his lids, like a flashlight that flickered on in a beat. The scene in front of him changed as trees filled his peripheral view with barely any space devoid of vegetation. Luke also saw critters climbing from the trees until vanishing from sight.

His mind went black as he struggled to process his situation. He tried to open his mouth but no words came out, stiffling the least bit of calm he had preserved. He was wide awake with anxiety, not a single shred of his previous drowsiness was present.

A terrible premonition arised within him and in a fit of panic, his vision darted below his eye level. He was completely dumbfounded at what he saw. Roots! There were actually roots! The place were his feet used to be positioned was now replaced with roots that burrowed deep into the ground. His vision trailed up higher and as he suspected, rough textured Barks were there. Luke's mind spun and he felt dizzy and nauseated.

He gathered his wits and forced himself to calm down. Panicking won't help him solve anything so isn't it much more convenient to analyze his situation first?

His mind began running through numerous circumstantial explanation, even to the point of exhaustion and having a headache, but nothing that he came up with was plausible enough to give further clarification to his current predicament. Afterall what logic could possibly explain why he turned to a tree?

Unless some magic voodoo mysteriously wickity wackitied him to become one. He cringed at his own thought. After all, he is still sane enough to not believe in children's fantasy.

Moments later, he felt the wind surge violently. His branches threatened to break as his leaves waved vehemently. Fear froze his soul as he looked into the distance. A winged 'beast' was currently making its way towards him, howering above the ground. The trees imperceptable shadows, shrouded it's body, only revealing a bright gold glint in it's eyes.

It neighed as it's figure left the shadows for Luke to see. It's body was clearly that of a horse but it's forehead revealed a singular long horn. A pair of wings was also attached to it's body, blowing leaves with it's every flutter.

Luke felt a fuse explode inside his brain. 'Who Am I? Where is this? Why am I here? '
