Charlie

I arrive home getting ready to be yelled at but know one was there. I made my way to my room and fell asleep.

Next day

I wake up startled. I grab my phone... 50 messages from Charity. What happened.

Charity: Charlie

Charity: Charlie

Charity: Charlie

Charity: Charlie

Is all she said in the messages. Once I replied I think she calmed down. I exited my room and hopped in the car. I drove to the hospital to see Charity. I made my way to here room and saw a young-ish woman come out. I brushed past her and saw Charity. She look traumatized. "Char, Char what happened?" She glanced at me but didn't move her body. I hugged her, not knowing what else to do.

I was hugging Charity when she started to feel heavy. I pushed her away to see that her lips were blue again. Was this my fault? I don't have any time to think. I gently place Charity on the bed and rush to the hallway.

"Nurse Bridget," I call as I see her. "What is it, Charlie?" she asks, a little surprised. "I need someone to get Charity. She passed out I think," I say sorta panicking. Nurse Brigett turns pale. "Doctor let's go!" she says. She rushes to Charity's room, once she walks through the door she stopped. "We need an operation room now," she lightly pushes me out of the way. "Sorry, Charlie her, vitals are down. She can't breathe, you can wait in the lobby. I'll come to give you updates okay? Now move." Nurse Bridget and the doctor push past me and disappear down the hallway.

I start to break down. I fall to the floor in tears. I call Melanie to support me. I pick myself up off the floor and made my way to the elevator. I begin to press against the elevator door. The last thing I remember is feeling weak.

I suddenly awake to nurse Bridget's voice. "Oh thank god. Charlie, sweetly are you okay?" I nod my head. Why is my voice not working? I try to talk but she shushes me. "Charlie, Charity's still in surgery. One of her lungs collapsed." I sat straight up. I knew why. I snatched nurse Bridget's clip board and wrote down some important information and gave it back to her. She read it and looked at me. Then whispered something to Melanie, who I didn't even notice was there. Then she looked at me. Nurse Bridget ran out of the room and grabbed a notebook. "Charlie I need you to write Down everything Charity told you and everything and anyone you saw."

I took the notebook and wrote about Ryan, that young-ish woman I saw, and the attack at the bathroom. I gave nurse Bridget the notebook and she left the room again. I assumed she was calling the police but I didn't really know.

Melanie ran over to me and started crying. I made room for her in the bed and let her cry on my shoulder. Charity should be out of surgery soon and the cops would be here.

A couple hours later

Charity is out of surgery now and Melanie is with her. I am currently being questioned by the police but since I'm having trouble talking they just ask me questions and I write down the answers. I have a feeling I will be able to talk again.

The officers wanted to take me to the station but Melanie would have none of that. "He will not be going anywhere until my niece wakes up!" She demanded. The officers really don't want to deal with her so they settled with taking Ryan to question him.

After questioning was over I went into Charity's room. I grabbed her hand. Come on charity wake up. I hear a soft groan come from Charity, I lightly squeezed her hand and she opened her eyes for a second. She blinked a couple of times before looking at me. Neither of us said anything but we both burst into tears and hug one another. I kissed her lightly," Charity I thought you were gone." The tears started coming faster. "So did I," she admits wiping away my tears. Then the heartbeat machine thing (I have no idea what they called) started to flat line. Charity squeezed my hand," Goodbye Charlie." "No, no , no wait," the nurses rushed in. Melanie had to pry me away from Charity. I was kicking and thrashing and crying, telling her to let me go. As I calm down I realize Charity just died. She flatlined.

I just sat. Quietly. Some of the nurses and Melanie tried to get my attention but I couldn't focus. I started breathing heavy. I'm having a panic attack. Great. Out of every other time I could have one my mind says now. I curl up into a ball in the chair I'm in. Melanie notices it and holds me closer to her cooing me and conforming me. Her smell smell engulfs me. Mhm vanilla. My stomach growls. "Melanie can you please get us some food?" "Yeah," she says softly.

I feel bad. She raised this girl, her whole life and now she's gone. Uh.
