Chapter 10.

(POV little Han)

Right in front of me, before my childish eyes a couple flirted like nothing that happened earlier mattered to them. It was like they existed in their own little world.

The man looked rather weak with a short messy hairstyle coloured the same as his pitch black eyes. He wore a strange but otherworldly onyx cloak around him. He was surprisingly handsome despite his weak appearance. Yet, although weak in appearance I realized I could not see through his realm of strength in the slightest. He felt like a bottomless abyss that could not be understood by the common sense of this world.

The woman he talked to was on a whole level of her own though. If I were to say the man was slightly handsome before, then this woman made him look like a pig. Although not on the level of a goddess she was definitely one of the finest beauties I had seen in my short lifetime. Forgive me for my lacking linguistics, but I could hardly describe the ethereal beauty before me.

Though what laid before my eyes felt like it was only the tip of the iceberg. Every sway of her hips left me dazed as she continually teased what seemed to be her husband. At some point she bent over with upturned eyes toward the man and it felt like my heart jumped out of my chest from her provocations that were not even directed at myself.

Yet for some reason the husband only coughed dryly while he looked away like he were indifferent to the ways of the mortal world. It was a real eye opener for me to see how distant and refined the weak looking man was with such a fairy at his side. However, at the time I had no way of knowing the inner turmoil playing out within the husband's mind.

After they flirted in front of me a while longer I started to feel slightly embarrassed as I let out a light cough.

They still flirted like I was air. Although I was exhausted after the last test I still felt I should thank the husband for his earlier words. It was inadvertently thanks to his unintentional words that I was given the chance to come out on top. It may have been a slip of his tongue which led me to victory but I am still thankful nonetheless. If he did not say anything then who knows if my adoptive father would have made a move.

Of course, I was completely unaware that my adoptive father watched the entire scene excitedly while he waited to make the most dashing appearance possible.

"Excuse me... " I tried once again to gain their attention.

They still didn't hear me. Am I really that quiet? I don't think I was. Are they doing it purposely?

"Excuse me beautiful senior sister and handsome big brother."

The woman froze up a bit as she turned towards me with sparkling eyes as she said with a beautiful smile. "I'm sorry I didn't quite notice you earlier. When teasing my husband I tend to forget about the world around me."

I have to say her words flowed like bells chiming out a rhythmic melody. I was slightly dazed while I looked at her smiling face as my heart skipped a few beats.

I looked away somewhat bashfully due to the woman's beauty and flirtatious response. I noticed the husband was looking at me with eyes that were very wary. What is with that look? Do you think I'm out to steal your wife?

Big brother husband, I am a righteous man! No matter how beautiful your wife is, I cannot possibly bear to try and snatch her away from you!

"Thank you handsome big brother for your earlier words. They were words similar to giving a dying man water during a great drought."

The husband's wariness decreased a bit and it appeared he enjoyed the compliment. It felt like he was the type that liked to be complimented for his endeavors. "Calling you handsome big brother feels a bit weird, can I ask for benefactor's great name?"

"No need to call me your greatest benefactor, I merely said what was natural. As for my name, you can just call me San. While this beauty is my wife, Meg."

Did I call you greatest benefactor? Am I suffering short term memory loss due to lack of blood?

"How can I possibly be so informal? To be on a first name basis with such a fairy?"

"If you can't call me Meg, then just call me fairy Meg." The wife was really quite playful and calling her a fairy definitely was not far from the truth.

"Fine. I will call you senior sister fairy Meg then."

I didn't notice it at the time but it seems the wife did, her husband's eyes twitched slightly upon hearing how I addressed her.

"Dearest husband are you jealous?"

"No."

"Why are you looking the other way when you say that?"

"I'm not looking the other way, it's just your imagination. I'm just looking at the beautiful scenery in the background."

"Husband... you're looking at a wall."

The husband then said with a very profound expression "it may be a wall or it may not be a wall. Whether it is a wall or the sky in front of me, even a wall can be considered a beautiful scenery when viewed from a certain angle. Even walls have a meaning to their existence. They are there to be overcome. They serve to separate but also to protect. A wall can have various meanings, it all depends on how one looks at it."

The wife rolled her eyes and it looked like she thought her husband was just being shameless, but his words reverberated within the very depths of my soul.

It was like I had seen the light.

What is in front of me in life right now may be a wall that I must overcome, but at the end of the day it is the wall that separates me from my future. I must scale that wall from the bottom one step at a time. One day when I stand at the peak of the wall that I once hated so much, it will become the wall that I stand guard upon. It would be a wall that can be used to protect those that I hold dear. Those who are enemies stationed on the wall now would have no choice but to submit. The wall gazes disdainfully down at me right now, but when I have scaled it, will it be able to look down upon me any longer? No it will not. It will be forced to look up at me unable to do a single thing. The wall is the sect. Those at the top looking down at me are my present enemies. Each block I climb can be said to be an obstacle my enemy throws down that I must overcome.

Upon reaching my epiphany I heavily bowed while I voiced out "thank you for venerable one's guidance. This lowly one will always remember your magnanimous teachings!"

Upon hearing my thanks, this respectable senior brother was slightly startled by my sudden outburst. After a moment he just nodded slightly while placing his hands behind his back as he looked back towards the wall while deep in thought with distant eyes.

Feeling a somewhat ancient air about him I felt slightly inclined to kowtow towards him and take him as my master. However, thinking that he might just be troubled and reject me; seeing as we just met, I held myself back. This is what a true expert distanced from the mortal realm should be like! Completely unlike what those shameless elders of the sect who prance about with stuck up chins arrogantly looking down upon all below them.

If I knew what the idolized figure before me was really thinking at this moment I might have coughed up blood in shame due to my naivety.

Although I was completely taken by the husband's act, the wife couldn't help but hide in a corner while trying to suppress the laughter building up inside of her.

Without my notice she looked towards me with a strange expression on her face. Even if I saw it I would not have understood the slightest of what she was thinking at the time.
