U.A was the number one highschool in heroics and considered the top Hero Academy in all of Japan, and it was here that Tora was heading for his practical exam. The practical exam was essential for passing if one wanted to enroll in the schools hero course, but it also required you to pass a written test as well.
Tora stepped up and stopped in front of the building, having already traversed the 5 block distance from the house to the school. He smiled with anticipation as he gazed up at the immense size of the U.A's main building, which was shaped like a big capital letter H. Though since he lived almost right next to the enormous building, Tora didnt bother to stare at it for very long, instead, attempting to walk through the gates while carrying his increasingly heavy and rather long carrying case. He was about halfway there, following a small group of other people walking towards the auditorium (where the exam was being held) when he finally tripped over his his own suitcase.
The whole thing was actually pretty funny, but just not to Tora as he was in the middle of having his face planted into the concrete. He squeezed his eyes shut and waited for the ground to give a big fat kiss to the top of his nose, but it never came. Confused, Tora opened his eyes to find himself floating, levitating at least 3 inches in the air with his feet totally off the ground. He was so surprised that he actually cursed out loud, "What the fuck??? When did I gain the ability to float?"
"Well, you didnt," said a voice right beside him. "I took the liberty of stopping you with my quirk. I'm sorry for not asking but I figured that you wouldn't mind much since you were close to face-planting."
Tora turned his head to see a rather pretty girl with shoulder length brown hair and brown eyes staring at him with a smile. She was dressed in a brown button down jacket and a black skirt which seemed odd to him since it wasnt that cold outside.
"Do you mind me asking whats in that briefcase your carrying around with you?" the girl asked, gazing at the rectangular case he had been dragging along with him. "It must be important if you brought it along with you."
"Well it contains my two swords that I'm going to be using for the practical," Tora respinded as he observed the couple inches of levitation he was experiencing. The pretty girl had said she had stopped him with her quirk, meaning that her quirk had something to do with levitation or at the very least something to do with the manipulation of gravity.
If it was a simple levitation based quirk then it would require little to no energy to dispel with his negation field. Concentrating a little bit, Tora pushed out a sparkling blue layer of energy from his which spread outwards until it encompassed both him and the brown haired girl. Though she was shcoked at first, the girl quickly recovered and even attempted to touch the blue energy field, however it quicjly retracted back towards Tora before disappearing as quickly as it had come.
"So it seems that I able to negate your quirk as well." Tora said as he picked up his suitcase and began to once again carry it towards the building. "I recommend staying as far away from me if you want to pass your pratical exam gorgeous, otherwise you'll find that you won't be able to use your quirk."
The brown haired girl just stared at the retreating figure of the young man, clearly perplexed at the way this boy was acting. She eventually shook it off and chased after him, her curiosity getting the better of her. "Was that your quirk just now? Where you canceled out my quirk?"
Tora, though he was still struggling with the case, nodded his head. "My quirk is called Negation Field, where any quirk within the field I create is instantly rendered useless. Its how I cut off your levitation quirk."
The girl nodded her head as she walked ahead of him, even holding open the door for him as they walked inside the auditorium together. "My names Ochako Uraraka, whats your name mysterious stranger?"
"My name is Tora Syno, its a pleasure to meet you." Tora replied as he now walked around the inside of the auditorium to look for a place to sit. "Are you planning on sitting next to me Ms. Uraraka? If so, I highly recommend against it since I could put your whole chance of getting into this place down the drain."
Despite saying this however, Ochako continued to follow him, even to the point of taming the empty seat right beside him. Tora was a bit annoyed but also felt respect for the girl who sat beside him even though it might ruin her chances. He decided right then and there to not go through his original plan.
In the beginning he had actually been plotting to spread his field to its limit and stop everyone from being able to use their quirks, but this would effect Ochako's performance as well. Seeing this girl sitting next to him even though it would affect her chances of getting in made him want to find another way.
Just as Tora was about to comment on this though, the lights dimmed and lights below on the stage turned on, showing a guy with long spiky blonde hair and a big smiled on his face. His odd appearance confused Tora but he assuned that it was related to the exam so he put his full attention on this weird grown man.
"Welcome one and all to the U.A entrance exam," the man said, his voice abnormally loud. "I'm your host Present Mic, and I'll be explaining the rules for the the practical." Present Mic smiled and raised the microphone to his lips.
"The rules are simple," Present Mic said as he pointed behind him. The whole wall behind him lit up showing the image of 4 robots, each with a different number next to it. "You'll each be divided to separate arenas and duke it out with bots. Each robot, or mock villain is worth different points ranging from zero to three. You'll have a full ten minutes to locate and destroy these bots while building up your own number of points."
Present Mic raised his hand and the screen changed to a huge bot with the nunber zero next to it. "However, there is a bot thats worth nothing. Think of it as an obstacle that you have to avoid and attempt to make your way to the top of the charts. Your arenas have already been decided so when your ready please head to the exit and go to the designated arena. True heroes are those who over come life's misfortune!" Present Mic rasied his arms up and smiled, flashing all of his bright teeth. "Go Beyond, PLUS ULTRA!!"
Tora wasn't interested in that, but rather what arena he had been placed in. On the big screen behind Present Mic, names appeared next to an arena number, indicating where each person was supposed to go. Tora was to go to arena number 1 where it appeared Ochako was also heading.
"Crap" he muttered as he stood up and walked towards the exit with the rest of the crowd. "I guess I can't be using my quirk too much in this exam, maybe my swords will come in handy." He carried the suitcase close to his body as he made his way all the way to arena 1, which was located behind the U.A building.
"Oh, that reminds me," Ochako said, reminding Tora that she was still following him. "I was wondering if you could show me the swords before we start with the exam." Her brown eyes were filled with excitement as she stared at the case.
Once they reached the entrance to the arena along with numerous other contestants, Tora set the suitcase on the ground and pressing his thumb against the scanner. The lock clicked and popped open, allowing Tora to raise the lid and take out the two sheathed swords. It wasnt until he showed them to Ochako that he realized just how silent it was. Looking around him, he realized that just about everyone here was staring at the two black and white sheaths he was holding in his hands.
"Umm, may I help you people with something?" Tora asked as he gazed at all of the onlookers, which was almost everyone present. "You act like you've never seen a sword before."
"How about you unsheath it and show it off," Ochako said, rather unhelpfully since everyone seemed to be wanting the same exact thing. "I really want to see what they look like."
Tora, having realized that he had caused himself a bit of a problem, slung the aqua sword over his shoulder and hooked it to his back using a built in strap attached to the sheath, doing the same to the pitch black sheath. "Sorry Ochaku, but I can only take out this sword when I'm fighting to protect something, not to satisfy the curiousity of a crowd."
It looked like Ochako and the rest of the crowd were on the verge of complaining when the voice of Present Mic rang out over the loudspeakers postioned over the entrance of the arena. "What are you all waiting for? A countdown? There are no countdowns in a real battle!!! Move your ass's!!" With those words, the doors to the arena opened, signaling the start of the practical exam!
