Jia Kui and Li Dian returned the greeting Han Sui gave to them and then after taking their seat, Jia Kui thanked Han Sui for agreeing to meet the two of them and told Han Sui that before they talked about any matter, he informed Han Sui that there was a gift from Cao Cao for Han Sui, a gift that he believe Han Sui would love arousing Han Sui's interest and seeing this Jia Kui gave the letter of appointment to Han Sui.
Han Sui who sees this takes the letter from Jia Kui's hand and opens it right away, curious about what it contains inside where after reading it he is truly surprised by the gift that was given to him by Cao Cao.
He never expected that he would be promoted to become the General Of The Frontier, this is a big gift that was given to him and when he said thank you to Jia Kui and Li Dian, he asked them to also extend thank you to Cao Cao, Jia Kui told him that this isn't the only gift for Han Sui from Cao Cao.
Jia Kui then brought Han Sui, Cheng Yin, and Hou Xuan alongside Li Dian toward the wagon that was outside of the tent, seeing the wagon both Cheng Yin and Hou Xuan became vigilant in case Jia Kui and Li Dian tried to do anything bad.
Jia Kui sees their vigilance, so he explains to them that there's nothing harmful inside the wagon to prove it, he takes off the cloth used to cover the wagon, and the things inside immediately cause Han Sui, Cheng Yin, and Hou Xuan to be captivated.
Mountains of gold, jade, and precious paintings could be seen inside the wagon, Han Sui seeing all of these riches was definitely mesmerized by it, and before he even realized he approached the wagon to touch the gold inside it.
Feeling the weight and how shiny the gold was, Han Sui was satisfied by this and let out a loud laugh. He originally was very rich but due to his losing the internal struggle against Ma Teng, he lost many of his riches as a concession to Ma Teng.
Now he could be said to be the poorest Warlord, even Zhang Lu was much richer than him, especially since Zhang Lu was the leader of the Way of the Five Pecks of Rice, a Chinese Daoist movement that he inherited from his Grandfather.
The sect enjoyed large popularity in the Yi Province, so he received many donations that enriched him and his force, it could even be said he could be much richer than Ma Teng if it weren't for the size of his domain smaller than Ma Teng.
With this sect alone, he managed to fund the war he was facing against Liu Zhang, to avenge the death of his family members.
At this time Han Sui who was laughing happily at the sight and feel of the gold mountain, Cheng Yin and Hou Xuan beside him were also surprised by this sight and the two could conclude that it looked like Cao Cao was trying to coax their Lord to his side.
Maybe in the past, they would persuade Han Sui the best they could to not accept Cao Cao's persuasion 0but now their position is in jeopardy thanks to their loss to Ma Teng in the struggle for Chang'An.
So seeing that Jia Kui and Li Dian were standing somewhat distant from their location, the two of them stood closer to Han Sui who was happy with the riches he had got and whispered to them.
Cheng Yin: "My Lord, I think Cao Cao has some ulterior motives for suddenly trying to befriend you and giving you so many benefits, even promoting you to become The General Of The Frontier, I think we could capitalize on this to increase our survival chances."
Hou Xuan: "I agree with what Cheng Yin has said My Lord, thanks to Ma Teng we don't have any power in the entirety of Liang Provinces with almost all of our town being taken away by him!"
Han Sui: "Don't worry you two, I know that Cao Cao is trying to befriend me. Since we lost our power in Liang Province and with the shrinking of our men numbers, I have thought of many ways to uplift us from this predicament and I think I have finally found the way."
Cheng Yin: "What way My Lord? Are we going to exploit Cao Cao's actions to try to befriend us and use it to arm ourselves to fight Ma Teng?"
Han Sui: "You will see it yourself after this, what I can only say is that there would be large changes around, one that will elevate us from our predicament or destroy us."
Han Sui's words cause both Cheng Yin and Han Xuan to look at each other, whereas Han Sui's words are full of seriousness causing them to be cautious of the next move that Han Sui has prepared.
Han Sui after saying that put down the gold on the inside of the wagon, and then he returned back to inside the tent with Cheng Xin and Hou Xuan followed by Jia Kui and Li Dian who saw this happen.
Inside the tent, Han Sui takes his seat and after seeing that Jia Kui and Li Dian have also seated, he then asks Jia Kui the reason why Cao Cao sent him here bearing lavish gifts for him.
Jia Kui hearing this then began to explain the true reasons why he was sent here by Cao Cao, it was that Cao Cao wanted to increase the relationship between them and hoped that they could enter some sort of cooperation together to take down Ma Teng.
Hearing this both Cheng Yin and Hou Xuan immediately become excited, because this is the chance that Han Sui could take to rise up once again, but Han Sui has a different plan in mind.
Han Sui nodded his head and his mind began to turn to the possibilities of other kinds of cooperation Cao Cao was looking for.
The reason is that both sides have a different power balance and Han Sui knew that he was on the lower side of the balance, if they had some sort of alliance Han Sui knew that there would be almost no benefits whatsoever for him.
On the other hand, he thinks that his career as one of the Warlords ended the money he lost in the internal struggle against Ma Teng, which proved that he doesn't have what it takes to maintain his career as a Warlord.
So now he thinks that rather than allying himself with Cao Cao, he wants to swear his allegiance to Cao Cao and become part of his forces, he is sure that by doing so Cao Cao would impart him a large responsibility over Liang Province especially since the Qiang People have flourished due to him.
Cao Cao needed him as an enforcer and guard against the Qiang People so that they wouldn't rebel and ensure the Han People could regain authority over some areas, something that Han Sui didn't care about as long as he was in power.
Maybe in the past, he cared about his people, but the power was too sweet and corrupting Han Sui who in the past had a noble cause to forget about them, and in turn, only cared about his own comfort.
Jia Kui: "So what do you think Lord Han Sui? My Lord is very hopeful of having some sort of cooperation with you, and I assure you that you will gain many benefits from this cooperation."
Han Sui: "I'm sorry Master Jia Kui, I have a different plan in mind. I don't need some sort of cooperation with Lord Cao Cao, but there is something that I have in mind that I'm sure both you and Lord Cao Cao will be very happy to accept."
Jia Kui: "I'm sad to hear about that Lord Han Sui, but I'm willing to hear about what you have in mind. While My Lord would be disappointed, if what you have just said is truly correct and could make My Lord happy, then I'm willing to listen."
Han Sui: "I said that I don't need some sort of cooperation with Lord Cao Cao isn't because I don't want to cooperate with him, but because I would like to swear my allegiance to him where I and all of my army would be for his disposal!"
Jia Kui: "Truly Lord Han Sui?! I hope that this isn't a lie, because My Lord would be displeased and I also would feel the same as My Lord and would do anything in my power to make you pay."
Han Sui: "Yes Master Jia Kui this is the truth! My career as a Warlord already ended the moment Ma Teng managed to defeat me, and without Lord Cao Cao suddenly extending his hand in friendship, I think there's no way I could even avenge my defeat."
Jia Kui: "Haha! This is truly marvelous! I'm sure that My Lord would be very satisfied with this news! I will immediately report this to My Lord, but as My Lord's representative alongside General Li Dian, the two of us would be the first to welcome you to My Lord's banner!"
Li Dian hearing what Jia Kui said cupped his hand toward Han Sui, Cheng Yin, and Han Xuan to welcome the three of them, he was also happy that Cao Cao received ranks of talented generals and a large army.
Han Sui let out a laugh and happily received the welcome from both Jia Kui and Li Dian. Cheng Yin and Han Xuan on the other hand were surprised by Han Sui's choice, but they always believed in Han Sui since the first they swore their allegiance to him.
So they would follow whatever decision Han Sui made, as long as they could continue to serve under him in the future. Jia Kui then took his leave to report this news to Cao Cao, leaving Li Dian to talk with Han Sui, Cheng Yin, and Han Xuan.
Jia Kui drafted the letter at a fast rate and used a messenger bird to, send it to Xuchang to Xun Yu. Almost a week passed by before the bird finally arrived at Xuchang, where it immediately headed toward Xun Yu's office.
Xun Yu who was working in his office, was surprised by the arrival of the bird and after taking the letter he immediately read it, where surprise turned to joy after reading the content inside the letter. He didn't expect that Jia Kui managed to persuade Han Sui, to not only cooperate but also to swear his allegiance to Cao Cao, so holding the letter he immediately left his office to see Cao Cao to report the good news.
