Chapter 193 A Feeling

While the elite guards and fighter strategists on Baron's side were busy fighting the oncoming wave of tanks, another group was circling around them. In response to this, Baron finally decided to send in his frontline soldiers. Though it was unclear whether or not they would be able to get there in time to assist would be up to whether or not the fighters would be able to last long enough under fire from the tanks, and the fighter aircraft coming in from the distance as well. The soldiers rushed forward at a steady pace and they were able to make it in time just before the second wave of tanks made it to Meng Wu's flank.

These new reinforcements were immediately given a command by Meng Wu to stall the circling tanks until he could get some of his men to transfer battles. This task was not easy for Meng Wu as his side was starting to fold under the pressure of so many tanks shooting at them from head-on, but the only thing he could do was to continue the battle no matter what the costs. It turned out that the costs were not as much as he had thought as the soldiers that came to assist him were better fighters than he had originally thought and could hold back quite a few of them simultaneously.

The success of these soldiers was mainly because they had been given the proper means to deal with a couple of tanks, but they could only do so much with so many tanks shooting at them with machine guns and explosives. Baron had some men distribute RPG-7's to a few of the more talented soldiers along with a few grenades and other accessories that were able to incapacitate a tank if used properly. Properly, as in aiming for vital points and anywhere that was not well-armored. This allowed the burden from Meng Wu's shoulders to be lifted immensely for the time being and he could focus on the enemies in front of him.

More and more tanks were destroyed, as was the situation for the soldiers under Meng Wu's command. However, they had only managed to take out a little over a quarter of the tanks before the next enemy came into view. The fighter aircraft that had been sent in a little while after the tanks were nearly upon them. Though they may only be a couple hundred in number, it was a bit more difficult to take them down as they were up in the air.

It would require great amounts of skill for a trained marksman to hit one, and it would take a couple of dozen shots at least to down one. However, Meng Wu and his two men who were capable of shooting the Gatling gun had brought theirs and set them up, plus a couple more just before the aircraft descended on them to begin the fighting.

In total, they had not many of these contraptions, but it would be more than enough to take down a few aces. Once the 20 or so began shooting, there was just an endless reverse rain of bullets that ran into the skies. It wasn't long before the first plane was shot out of the sky, then followed by another, and another, and another. Pretty soon, there were a couple of wrecked fighters around Meng Wu's army and that they would not be the last. However, it wasn't as if the aircraft that Xuan Feng had sent weren't doing any damage, they were, it was just that with every plane shot down, Meng Wu's men were getting better at aiming with the Gatling gun and the faster that they would be able to shoot the next one down.

While the two sides were busy fighting each other, the deepstrikes were once again activated. It turned out that in all of the fighting, Meng Wu and his army were not aware that the Xuan Feng had sent out even more soldiers to fight. This team was all transported by vehicles and got to the battlefield relatively unharmed despite all the deepstrikes that were aimed at them. Baron could only respond by sending in more soldiers.

Going by Baron's estimates, Xuan Feng had sent in roughly 20,000 soldiers to reinforce his failed Blitzkrieg style tactic. Even if it was a little overkill, Baron sent in double that number to ensure that he would come out on top. Though, it was really up to his skilled strategists on the front lines. For the first time since the battle started, Baron wasn't really sure about the situation anymore. Of course, he was coming ahead out of all the battles so far, but could it be that Xuan Feng had something else planned?

His previous battle run-in with Xuan Feng had almost burned the notion that this opponent of his always had something up their sleeve. He had been on top in the last battle, but it always came out to bite him back eventually. That time he lost Yue Fei, then Meng Wu, then most of the other important strategists under him. This bothered Baron greatly and he had a map of the surrounding area brought to him. He looked around the battlefield as well as the two other battlefields around him.

There were a few forests, but nothing so major that anyone would be able to hide large amounts of armies within them. A few hard to pass obstacles were on the map, and a few high-low contrasting grounds nothing unusual. No matter how much Baron focused on the map, he just couldn't shake off the feeling that there was something going on with Xuan Feng and he immediately recalled most of his strategists but kept the soldiers fighting on the front lines. A few more groups of soldiers were sent to relieve the stress of the battle with fresh supplies. At this point, those groups were not much of a threat, and unless another huge group was to come, they would not be in any immediate danger of breaking.
