I see her walking down the corridor, towards our usual hangout spot for the past two years, since we have been friends. It was windy today and her hair was open, so it wasn't a surprise that her hair flew all over her face as she walked.
But no amoumt of logic and predictability could stop from my heartbeat accelerating and my breath hitching, seeing her open hair. It was her birthday and today was the only day she can wear casual clothes to school and she chose to wear a dress that was in monochrome, my favourite, and she was the most beautiful girl in the world.
Yes, it is a cliche to fall for your best friend but some things can't be helped and to a certain extent I feel I was attracted to her from the first time I laid my eyes on her.
It was the first day of 9th grade and I, being the class leader, was informed that a new student was joining our class. I remember, I wasn't too excited about it like other guys in my class, even after knowing it was a girl. In fact, I was a little annoyed because I had to guide her throughout the school for the first day, when I could use that time to go to the football field. But little did I know, I was going to meet the person who is going to be so important to me in the near future.
As soon as she stepped in the class, the guys were a little put off, as they were expecting a conventionally hot girl and not a girl on the chubbier side. But where the others lost interest, I felt mine pique a little. To me, she looked absolutely stunning in the uniform. I suppose, that's also the day I first realised, I had a thing for curvy women. Regardless of this, I was still a little irritated about having to babysit, that I was more than a little jerk to her, each word of mine dripping with sarcasm. But instead of being offended, she gave it right back to me and that only piqued my interest further. By the end of the day, we had befriended one another and our friendship has been strong ever since.
As time went by, I realised the extent of my feelings for her and have been waiting for the right time. Today wasn't supposed to be that day, I had planned it on Valentine's day, as I have heard it's the most romantic day of the year. But as she walked up to where I stood like a statue, I couldn't stop staring at her and I realised, I couldn't keep it in my heart anymore.
As if my body was acting on its own volition, I pulled her sharply into a hug, not caring who saw us here. I hugged her tight and felt her hands lock around my neck instinctively. Gently, I whispered in her ear, "I can't hide it anymore, Kavi."
I step away from the embrace slowly, and hold her hands. I look deep into her eyes and almost get lost before I remind myself what I need to do. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, then open my eyes to see her looking at me expectantly. I knew it then, that she knew. She knew what I meant and she wants to hear it. Because she feels the same way too!!!
"Kavi, from the day I met you, I just knew you were going to be a very important person in my life, I just didn't know how important, though."
I could see her eyes shining with unshed tears but before I could lose my courage, I continued, "But, now I know that I want to spend the rest of my life with you, making you happy. 'Cuz I love you and always will."
With that I hugged her once again, tightly against me, so much so I was a little worried I may be smothering her. But I knew, I couldn't let her go. This time, she broke the embrace and brought up her hand to caress my face, her tears were now streaming down her cheek and she had a peaceful smile on her lips. I wiped the tears with my fingers as she continued to caress my face. Her hands felt so good, I closed my eyes relishing it.
When she finally spoke, it was barely a whisper, "I love you too, Krish. No matter what, I'll forever be yours to keep."
Once again, I hugged her fiercely, one of my hand resting on her head and whispered, "and I, yours."
