7 Police Officers

After eating breakfast, Hong looked at the time and went into the bathroom.

He put on the business suit and flattened out the wrinkles. Adjusting the tie, he looked in a mirror with interest. The formal attire combined with his burly body gave him a handsome and mature look.

"These modern attires are quite good compared to those medieval style ones. Combined with this physique, it's not wonder people stopped bully him." He sighed as he looked at his very short hair.

The sound of a doorbell echoed in, which startled him for a second. Recalling Chen's memories, he gained some understanding and walked into the living room. Going up to the door, he peered into the door peephole.

Two middle-age looking men wearing police attire patiently stood there. Both of them were handsome and a little above average. One had black hair and the other had brown beneath their hats.

Behind them was many others wearing the same uniform while knocking on other doors. A nervous feeling crept up, but he recalled Chen's memories once more. His body shook as anxiety filled his stomach.

"Shit! These are police officers! What are they doing here?!" He furiously thought. Looking at Chen's personality, he merged into the role and unlocked the door, causing it to fade away. There's no way he can keep them waiting without increasing suspicion.

"Yes?" Hong maintained a cautious look as he looked at the others passing by.

"Good evening Mr. Chen. My name is Jake and this is Marvin." The guy on the left was all smiles.

"Ah! Hello." Recalling basic courtesy manners in this universe, he reached out to shake their hands.

The two police officers looked at his huge hands and his burly body and put on a better expression while shaking his hand. No matter what universe, people are always slightly submissive towards others who are bigger and stronger. Plus, there is no need to get violent at the moment.

"We got a report today from the apartment manager that unknown spatial fluctuations were detected in this apartment yesterday. We are just doing a check up on the area to see if there's an issue. Do you mind if we enter?" Asked the Marvin guy.

"Do you have a warrant?" Asked Hong in a courteous tone.

Jake smiled and pulled out a letter before handing it to him. Recalling Chen's memories, he could only guess it was genuine, since Chen has never had trouble with the police. He could only hand it back to him.

"Please enter then." He replied as he stepped aside.

""Excuse our intrusion."" Both of them said as they entered his place.

Jake and Marvin pulled out a strange device Chen nor Hong had seen before. They seemingly scanned the area with the device before going to the other rooms. They came out several minutes later with disappointed expressions while Hong paced the room.

"Did you find anything?" Asked Hong with an innocent face.

"Unfortunately no." Jake and Marvin both shook their heads.

"I'm sure I don't have to mention this, but you should know that any devices or modules that can cause spatial ripples are banned without special document proof from authorities. If you spot someone with a device or module using one, please report it to us." Said Marvin in a stern tone.

"I understand." Hong nodded with a serious expression.

"Let's go." he said to his partner before walking to the entrance.

The door faded away and they walked out, before the door reappeared. Hong went over and locked it before sighing in relief. There was a layer of sweat on his palms.

"So terrifying! To think this building could detect my ripples from time traveling! If I had arrived in the center of the city, I'd surely be caught red-handed! I need to be more careful!" He thought with caution, cleaning the disdain from his eyes.

Despite being an orphan, being a mortal at one point, and seeing technology, he still held slight disdain for mortals since he was a cultivator before this. The mindset almost every other cultivator has towards mortals had unknowingly infected him as well, and he was in a lofty position for many years.

"I need to stop underestimating mortals. If they can develop all this just from there being no cultivators, then that means mortals have limitless potential! I can't imagine the results if the cultivation realm was to go against them!" He thought with slight fear.\

"Anyway, I am safe for now. I just need to blend in and follow the task given to me." He muttered to himself. Putting the incident in the back of his head, he adjusted his attire and went back into the bathroom.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The lives of everyone in the apartment somewhat returned to normal after the thousands of police officers inspected every room. With no results, they could only helplessly return and doubt the apartment managers statement.

The door faded away and Hong walked out, wearing his business attire. People were still in the hallways, chatting about the event to each others neighbors. Some glanced at him for a second before returning to their chat.

With a neutral expression, he set the door to 'lock' before teleporting away.

Appearing at the reception area, he walked out of the teleportation room with amazement in his heart.

"To think it's possible to teleport without a teleportation formation or without a high cultivation..." He sighed internally while keeping his expression neutral.

Hong walked up to the receptionist who was reading her book as usual.

"I will not be here for a while. Can I transfer the yearly credits?"

The old lady looked up from her book and casually glanced at him.

"Your boss called earlier and set up a prepayment schedule for your bills. You'll be fine." She said indifferently.

"Is that so? Then I'll have to thank him later." He said as he acted out Chen's personality.

"Anything else?" She asked with impatience.

"Nope, I'll see you again sometime." He said with a smile before walking out.

The old lady looked at him leaving before going back to her book.

A shield of energy encased him as he walked outside before vanishing. Everything was mostly the same as he saw it yesterday. Hundreds of hovering vehicles traversed between the high-rise buildings at different levels as people walked on invisible sidewalks in the skies.

Hong walked over to a designated sidewalk parking space and held out his thumb. Immediately after, a yellow taxi pulled over beside the sidewalk and the passenger door opened. He stepped in and sat down on the seats that probably millions have sat down on.

"Where to?" Asked the taxi driver, who looked quite young and handsome while in a good mood.

Hong had already checked the memories of Chen upon which spaceport he is supposed to be going to so he replied, "take me to Starport NW-238."

"At the entrance?"

"Yes." Hong nodded as he activated his console and pressed it against a plate.

"It'll take a few minutes so please enjoy the ride." Said the taxi driver with a smile as he received the credits.

The taxi AI pulled into the traffic and merged within the sea of passing vehicles. Hong stared out the window as the vehicle went above the skyscraper level in the outskirts. Up ahead, there was a giant wall of skyscrapers way higher than the current ones which they approached.

The taxi merged onto a freeway and reached the speed of sound. There was no sonic boom as the wall of skyscrapers rapidly approached. Hong stared in awe as they entered the maze of skyscrapers that seemed to connect heaven and earth. The vast holographic screens and civilian trading markets made the place seem bustling.
