Chapter 5: Lai Jing

Lu Feng and his gang were released the next day.

Reporters hounded them as they asked what Lu Feng did. It was mostly due to the news that Lu Feng was the seer. The chief of the police force had "accidentally" let the news out as he was bragging to his old friends about how Lu Feng helped him.

When Lu Feng heard about it, he was hesitant to help the chief. He decided to try to create the medicine quickly for the handsome dude and then leave to see the other places he had to visit.

The sniper had been arrested by some guards after Lu Feng alerted them.

The poor guy would be tortured to find out who his employer was.

Ding Ye and Lu Feng got on a limousine and rode to Ding Ye's mansion.

"Young master, welcome back. The elder is waiting for you in the tea room." A manservant bowed respectfully.

Ding Ye nodded and led Lu Feng to the guest room.

"Feng, wait until I finish talking with my grandfather. You can play video games or watch movies. Whatever snacks you want, tell the servants." Ding Ye was kind of worried about the Seer, so he told him what to do.

"Ok." Lu Feng cheerfully replied and flopped onto the sofa like it was his own place.

Ding Ye looked back to see the chip-munching young man who was dedicating his all to leveling up in a fighting video game. Sighing, he pulled the door open and walked himself out.

Meanwhile, a small figure was loitering about in the halls. Having just awoken from a nap, he was still half asleep. That was until he heard loud crashes and booms from the guest room.

The little figure became fully awake and peeked into the guest room.

A comical sight... that's what the little figure saw.

It was a very pretty man who was stuffing potato chips into his mouth. He was holding a chip bag between his legs as he sat criss-cross applesauce. The video game control was in his hands which were furiously clicking away at the buttons. The booms and crashes coming from the huge screen were very loud but the gamer didn't flinch at all, staring straight at the screen seriously.

'...who's that?' the little person thought.

"Booyah! Level 100! Done!" Suddenly, the pretty young man leaped up and ran towards the snack bar.

He got himself several chip bags and ran back to the sofa again.

He put all his snacks in a row on the sofa and started another game.

"Hm. Zombie games are good. What if a planet I go to has a zombie apocalypse?" he muttered.

Lu Feng finished the zombie killing game in a matter of minutes, declaring it as too easy.

427 yelled, 'It's just that your skill levels are too monstrous for it!' Of course, it didn't say it to Lu Feng. It was classified information.

Lu Feng laid back on the sofa and began munching on chips.

creak.

A small noise, but nevertheless one, came from the door.

"Hm?"

Lu Feng saw a small kid staring at him through a crack.

Noticing that he was found out, the kid looked nervous.

"Hey, do you want some?" Lu Feng held out a bag of chips. Maybe the kid was hungry?

The kid brightened and took a handful of chips from the bag.

"My name is Lu Feng. What's yours and how old are you?"

The kid pulled out a whiteboard and wrote: "Lai Jing. 7."

Lai Jing grabbed another handful of chips.

He wrote: "My parents didn't let me eat any junk food. It tastes nice. Do you have any candy?"

Lu Feng walked towards the snack bar and found some caramels and chocolate. Munching some for himself, he handed the rest towards Lai Jing.

"Are you not from the Ding family?" Lu Feng asked.

Lai Jing wrote: "My mother is from the Ding family. They took me in a few months ago when my parents died."

'Poor kid.' the system remarked.

Lu Feng thought so too.

The two played video games and became good friends after a while.

"Mr. Lu, your father has come to pick you up." reported a maid as she came to stock up the snack bar.

Lu Feng frowned. Now that it was known that he was the Seer, his father who had never cared would try to pull him to his side.

The election for the new 12 councilors would be coming up this year. Lu Feng's father was going for another round this year. His public view had been going down since his illegitimate child was causing a ruckus, but with the Seer around, he'd be sure to get a spot.

Lai Jing wrote: "What's wrong?"

Lu Feng faintly smiled and rubbed the kid's head, telling him, "I'll be back soon."

Lu Feng was lead to the front door by another servant.

"Son" A handsome man not resembling Lu Feng at all, but old enough to be the father, said.

"Um, I don't know you, mister." Lu Feng looked at the man who was acting so intimately with disgust.

"Oh. Well, I am your father. The body of the child you are resting in is my son."

"I know that. But you are no father of the previous Lu Feng. His only family seems to be the gang that he formed. Please see yourself out, Mr. Lu. I, have no relations with you. And don't even think of trying to use me." With that, Lu Feng turned away, leaving the open-mouthed man at the doorstep.

When Lu Feng returned to the guest room, he was greeted by the ever-so-sweet Lai Jing.

The whiteboard had the neat words, "Let's play the idol game!"

This made Lu Feng feel like he actually belonged in this place for the first time.

'Host, if you level up to level 5, you can get a spaceship and your original body back. Maybe Lai Jing will agree to travel with you. And if you level up to level 20, I'll get a body and be able to assist you on your journeys. Good luck on leveling up.'

'That'd be nice.' was Lu Feng's answer.

'Eh? Aren't you going to ask how to level up? Well, you have to improve your voice and dancing skills. Your popularity is already high, so no need to worry about that. There are quests that you need to complete too, but I've withheld it for now. You'll get them at the next stop.'

Lu Feng just replied with an, "Ok", and focused more on the explanation that Lai Jing was writing about the idol game.

'You aren't listening! Fine, play the game. It'll improve your dancing and singing skills anyways.'

Lu Feng didn't pay attention to his system and only focused on the whiteboard.

"Jing, can you sing?"

Lai Jing shook his head.

"My voice can't come out after my parents died. The doctors said it was a trauma, but it's mostly just me feeling tired of everything..." the reply came.

"Oh, then just follow the dance moves ok?"

Lai Jing nodded cutely and Lu Feng patted his head.

Lai Jing clicked 'START' and the game began with cool sound effects.

"Leeeeeeeeeet's START!" came an enthusiastic high-pitched voice.

"Left! Right! Jump! Twirl! Slide! Left! Jump! Split! Twirl!"

Lu Feng and Lai Jing quickly followed the movements as they were ordered to. The orders went faster and faster.

After half an hour, the voice sounded again. "Good job! You got a 100% of all the movements correct! Now that we are finished with the beginner stage, let's move onto the next stage!"

Lai Jing paused the game. He was slightly huffing and puffing. His forehead was covered with a thin layer of sweat. Lu Feng looked the same.

Even though they were tired, they had fun. Smiling at each other, they once again challenged it.

"Leeeeeeeeeet's START!"

Once again, the two went on a toil as they tried to master the moves ordered by the figure on the screen.

They tried to follow the movements of the figure on the screen but stumbled a couple of times.

Half an hour later, they got the hang of it. But as the figure said they didn't get a 100%, they weren't allowed to pass to the next stage.

Lu Feng and Lai Jing lamented and started the 2nd stage again.

After about 3 more hours, Ding Ye came in after he knocked. The two didn't notice and Ding Ye saw a sight of two beautiful males dancing like fairies.

Complex moves were done so gracefully that there could be no faults found.Even their expressions were of grace, those slight smiles with slitted eyes, seductive and mysterious.

"You finished the game! You win! Play another course! Next stop: Singing!" a voice sounded out as the music stopped.

"Huff. Huff. Huff." Lai Jing paused the game. Lu Feng and Lai Jing finally got a chance to rest after dancing so expertly. They immediately collapsed to the floor and laid there just breathing.

Ding Ye watched this sight in admiration and confusion. What happened? He went over to look at the screen and saw the idol game's screen.

"Oh, isn't this the banned idol game? They announced that it was too hard for players. Why are you playing this?"

Lu Feng and Lai Jing were about to cry. How were they supposed to know? This game was brutal. The stages got harder as it went by and they had to even have their expressions perfect! QAQ, why did they start this in the first place?!

Lu Feng finally noticed Ding Ye.

"Ding Ye, you're here? I was playing with your cousin."

"Ah, thanks for taking care of Lai Jing. I had to talk to grandfather about him actually." Ding Ye looked at the kid with pity.

"Little cousin, I'm afraid no one in the Ding family is going to take you in. You can stay in this household till you turn 16. But after that, you'll have to make do on your own. I'm sorry but Grandfather is still mad that aunt ran away to marry so haphazardly."

Lai Jing clenched his fists but hid it behind his back and smiled. He wrote: "Thank you, cousin. That's good enough."

Lu Feng was angered. Did the Ding family not feel guilty for abandoning such a young child? The Ding family is no worse than the Lu family!

"Who says they won't take him? I'll take him in as my son. I'm 28, old enough to adopt a child," fumed the furious Lu Feng.

Ding Ye did look a little shocked but quickly hid it, showing a smile instead. "Ok, I'll talk to Grandfather about it. I'll get a lawyer and the files to come."

Lu Feng nodded and called Lai Jing.

"Jing, I want to adopt you. Can I?" Now that he actually faced the child who he was planning to adopt, Lu Feng felt nervous and scared.

All of a sudden, Lai Jing threw his whiteboard away and hugged Lu Feng.

"Mommy...Wuwuwuwuwu" Lai Jing cried loudly, after all, he was merely a child.

"Cry all you want. There, there, I'm here." Lu Feng consoled the crying child.

It took awhile to get Lai Jing situated.

"Brother Feng, do I have to call you my father from now on? Can I call you something else?" Lai Jing asked.

"Mm, call me anything you want." Lu Feng smiled at the child.

"Ah, can I call you Mommy? You remind me of my Mommy a lot. You're very nice and pretty."

A little peeved but melting at the sight of the pouting expression on the little child's face, Lu Feng allowed it.

Soon, Ding Ye came in with a lawyer and some forms.

Usually, an adoption or foster care process took about a week, but with the power of the Ding family, the process was cut to mere minutes.

Lu Feng grabbed ahold of Lai Jing's small hand and went outside of the gates. They said goodbye to Ding Ye who handed all of Lai Jing's things, which all fit inside one bag.

They got on a subway and went towards the previous Lu Feng's small apartment. The previous Lu Feng had bought it to stay away from the main wife who hated him.

"Lai Jing, what do you want to order?"

"Mommy, do you not know how to cook?"

Lu Feng sheepishly smiled.

"Besides making chemicals that are harmful, I destroy practically everything with just a touch. That's why I used assistants. To make my prescriptions for cures for me. I don't know why I end up destroying everything. I can barely make a sandwich without messing up the kitchen. Even using the microwave..."

Lai Jing blinked innocently and asked for noodles and dumplings.

In a matter of minutes, the delivery man got to the front door.

Lu Feng and Lai Jing leisurely watched cartoons and fell asleep.

Meanwhile, Ji Xiang was organizing the gang boss meeting. Everyone had heard that it was to take place tomorrow at the ice skating stadium. The Black Eye gang frantically called their boss but didn't get an answer from the sweetly sleeping Lu Feng. They debated to whether visit their boss's home but decided against it. The boss hated it when anyone entered his home.

They all wondered, 'How do we get the message that there is a gang boss meeting tomorrow to the boss?'

Unfortunately for them, Lu Feng and his son were sleeping so peacefully on the couch. And one sad thing the gang should know, the two wouldn't wake up even if there was a fire alarm!
