1 Makes no sense

I don't know what to do, Laura! I just got in, I can't get kicked out of school... I just got in... I... Laura-- I don't know what to do...

She looked at the text on her phone, her heart aching in pain.

Her brain searched for answers but she found none, while her heart ached for her to give him a reply to the text that read:

' ... I should break up with you, or pay one thousand dollars...'

Her heart didn't want to let go.

She didn't want to give in to the matter. She had sources to get that idiot who was trying to ruin her new relationship. She was ready to deal with that culprit squarely, with no ounce of forgiveness or mercy attached.

Her heart was ready to fight, but her brain was trying so much to be rational.

Her heart and her brain had a tug of war on the tabled problem for what felt like hours but was actually a minute plus.

If she was to push through with her heart's plan, he could get hurt in the process, or worse, expelled. She didn't mind if it was her. She could deal with the consequences. But for some reason, for the first time, she was concerned about one factor, her power did not extend to the board.
