1 The dream

Rand al'Thor woke with a scream. He was sweating and breathing heavily. The dream had haunted him once more, the same dream he'd been having since he was a child.

In the dream, he was in a dark and gloomy place. There was a fire ahead of him, and a voice whispered in his ear. The voice said:

"The Dragon's Eye is awakening. It is coming."

Rand didn't know what the dream meant. He just knew it was a bad dream, a dream that scared him.

He got up from the bed and went to the window. The sun was rising, and the day was clear. Rand took a deep breath and tried to calm himself.

He knew he couldn't tell anyone about the dream. His parents would call him crazy. Friends of his would think he was weird.

Rand decided that he would keep the dream to himself. He wasn't going to let it upset him.
