The New Battlesuits

Null was tired of staying locked up on starships, he longed to be free. Virtual reality helped a little but he had never stepped foot on a planet or visited any alien worlds. He wished to spread his wings both figuratively and literally. He and Infy had been training with their new form and were excited to test if they could use the energy wings to fly.

Sadly Bolat could only get surveying missions. These missions consisted of jumping to an assigned asteroid field and scanning the nearby area and returning the data to the client. Infy didn't mind the idea of surveying missions since that was still a part of his core AI and he enjoyed doing them.

Null and Infy had to modify the Shuttle so that it could be used for these missions. It could move faster and improved scanning equipment installed. They had asked if they need to add shielding and weaponry to the shuttle but it didn't need either.

They had now done a number of these missions over the last few months and had earned enough Zallium for the boys to put into action their master plan. Over this time the boys had not been idled they had programmed the onboard virtual reality pods with a bunch of spells they believed would be feasible and had each person try them out to determine which style of fighting would best suit them.

Using this knowledge they were able to develop individual battle suits for each member of the team. They had developed a modular configuration for each suit. Each suit would have 6 major modules or components installed. They had spent time developing and testing multiple types of components for each module.

The power generator module controlled the size and strength of the passive spells and the abilities that the suit could use. They currently only had two options. The antimatter reactor or the fusion reactor. The antimatter reactor was able to handle large spikes of energies over a short time which was suitable for rapidly recharging power storage. The downside to this was it had a low sustained output. The Fusion reactor on the other hand was the opposite it only supplied a sustained out which slowed down recharge rates.

The power storage module affected the ability of the wearer to cast Active spells. This also was currently limited to only two options. A superconductive capacitor that could be recharged rapidly and discharged instantaneously but could only be used once per charge. The other option was dwarven storage crystals which the twins had reversed engineered. This crystal took longer to charge but could be used multiple times before needing to be recharged.

Armour configurations could also be customised, but each suit was still built with carbon nanotube/wax hybrid muscles and nanogel padding along with a powered exoskeleton. Each of these systems could be modified to allow the wearer greater control. They could add more external armour plating increasing the defence or they could increase power to the exoskeleton to increase power. The wearer could also choose to cover the suit with an active camouflage skin for stealth or they could use a skin made from the mass reduction alloy to increase speed

Every suit was packed with sensors and control systems that could be connected to an AI assistance. These assistance AI could be as simple or as complex as the user wanted. They could even develop their own personalities and specialities. Null already had Infy and Jania had her own AI the others would be able to build their AI to fulfil their needs

The suits currently had 4 slots for either active or passive spells. Passive spells could be turned on and off but while engaged would drain a set amount of power from the suit. Null and Infy had currently developed three spells they believed would work.

Every suit would come with an energy shield spell installed. This shield set a maximum limit on the energy of any object that entered its area of activation. This would prevent either small objects moving fast or large objects moving slowly from harming the user. They were worried about some edge cases but they would need infield testing before they could be refined.

The other passive spells were invisibility and constant gravity. The invisible spell worked similar to the invisible shield, it would teleport incoming electromagnetic energy to the other side of the wearer. This had many advantages it worked across the spectrum and worked in a complete 360 degrees around the suit. It wasn't a perfect solution sound and other physical objects could still interact with the wear and it would distort shadows.

The constant gravity spell was exactly as the name suggested. It controlled the gravity around the wearer allowing them to experience a constant gravity. The power draw of this spell was directly tied to the difference between the local gravity and the set gravity. This spell should let the team explore planets without being crushed or allow them to train under ever-increasing gravity.

The active spells could be cast at will but required activation energy. This energy would come from the storage devices set up in the suit. They had many options but they hadn't done any due diligence on them so Infy had convinced Null to hold off on those ideas. They had 4 final candidates for active spells.

Blink, this spell allowed for the caster to teleport to a marker that was placed within 10m of the suit. The marker had some complicated sensors that would be responsible for making sure that the area was clear of obstructions. The first revision of this spell had no marker but after a few accidents in virtual reality, it was decided it needed this safety feature. The boys had realised that when they teleported normally that they must have automatically been compensating for everything.

Mirror Image, this spell worked the opposite of invisible it teleported multiple copies of the outgoing electromagnetic energy randomly around the room making it appear that there is multiple copies of a person. The spell uses a large amount of energy.

Push, this spell allowed the user to direct a concentrated beam of Kinect energy towards a target. The power of this push was directly proportional to the energy provided. In theory, this spell could punch a hole through anything.

Return, this spell would teleport a marked object back to the user. The marked object has to have an instant communication device attached so that its location could be tracked. The distance between the user and the object didn't matter. In theory, a person could use this system to get anything out of storage.

It took them a while to come up with configurations for everyone but they had finalised their selections.
