The First Week

A week had passed since the twins had arrived at mars. Their arrival had caused more than a few ripples within the factions. The Martian leaders instantly identified the risk of keeping the twins a secret. Most of the factions had already observed the ship arriving at mars and if they assumed that the Martians had already gained access to the technology it could be used as a pretext for war.

To prevent this war, each of the factions had decided to expose a spy that had been implanted on mars. These ex-spies would act as observers for their respective faction. They were all currently observing what appear to be a silent argument between the twins and Lisa the senior science officer.

Lisa had spent the last week being the liaison between the factions and the twins. Generally, they would communicate via the device so that all the observers could monitor the conversation. Then sometimes when the twins got too attached to the conversation, they would bypass the device. This was the case currently.

They were currently in a commonly recurring argument. "I'm bored. All you want to do is talk. Please, can't you let us go out and fly or at least let us use the pods to practice? We need to be in peak condition for the competition" Null complaints had been getting more insistent as the days dragged on.

"You know the answer. until all the factions agree you aren't allowed off the base and that includes access to the network. Everyone has seen Infy ability to inhabit technology and they are concerned about what would happen if you got into a pod." Lisa rehashed what was by now an old argument. She was ready for Infy to intervene and remind her that they could leave whenever they want. "Now Infy before you say it, I know you can leave when you want to, but you must believe me, I am just trying to protect you. Now, do you have an answer to my proposal?"

"It's the same as every time you ask about our technology, it is dangerous" replied Infy.

"Is it really? Don't they already have this technology, and we would only be improving it. Lisa, I will help you if Infy won't. In exchange, I want to fight with John again. I will beat him this time" this was the first time Lisa had seen Null disagree with Infy and she had to use this opportunity.

"I am sure it could be arranged, but you would need to do the task first". Afterwards Null zoned out. She had enough experience now to know that the twins were currently engaged in a discussion.

It was Infy that finally answered. "What you are asking for is worth more than some sparring sessions. I believe they will be beneficial to Null mental health so we will look at the device and see if we can improve it, but I don't promise anything."

The device in question was a QEC. In truth, Infy wasn't against improving the device and believe it would benefit humanity and couldn't be used as a weapon. He was sharing Null frustration but while Null channelled that into being a bit whinny he was channelling it into being snarky.

Once the device was delivered Infy quickly enter the device and both he and Null entered a mediative state and started to listen to the voice of the universe.

After a couple of hours, the observes started to air their own opinions. "I knew they were all talk. I'm sure it was their mentor who created the ship. That is who we need to find".

"Agreed, He is not even doing anything. I doubt they have any idea how it works. I hope we don't give them anything for this".

Lisa didn't agree with these assessments. She had spent the most amount of time with the boys and believed she had started to bond with them. If they said they could do something she didn't doubt it. As if they could read her mind, Null opened his eyes. Null contacted her over the mental link "I need to peeeeeeee". Null then ran off towards the bathroom.

Lisa couldn't help but facepalm, 'just when I was thinking good things about them'. Then Infy contacted her over the mental link. "We have a solution. It might not be helpful, but we need access to our ships lab".

"First you need to explain how it works before I can take your suggestion to The General" replied Lisa.

By this time Null had returned from the toilet. "So, did Infy tell you? It is an easy fix. It turns out they aren't in pairs but are instead triplets. The two particles are connected to this third particle that is in negative space, so it never moves. Any changes made to the pair affect the third particle and then affect the twin. The solution is simple, instead of using the triplet we just create programable pairs. If we know the spatial coordinates of both particles, we can program them to talk to each other. See easy. So can we go spar now?"

'Wait isn't he supposed to be the foolish one? Did I misjudge them that badly? Still even if what they said is true. What is negative space and how does one go about getting their spatial coordinates? Guess I have to ask'. So said Lisa asked "ok but how does that help us. We can't program spatial coordinates as we don't know them"

Null looked a little sheepish and had his hand on the back of his head. "Well that easy for us but "

Infy finished the sentence for him "It is not knowledge we can give you. As I was saying we need access to our ship. Note something Null didn't include is how you would use it. The device would need to be in a fixed location and then you would need to input numbers that correspond to the location of the receiver for 1 way communication, or you can program in the location of a transmitter and a receiver for 2 way communication. This means you will have 1 device that can connect unlimited devices but only to 1 at a time."

Null and Infy had already discussed this option and had realised they could use the current method for creating pairs to modify the spatial coordinates so they wouldn't need to manipulate the fields.

The Observers were confused and more than a little bit annoyed as it was clear they were communicating but they weren't using the agreed upon protocols. Lisa came over and quickly explained everything that had happened. Once again, they weren't happy. The Earth representative did bring up a good point. "That not good enough. They need to supply us with plans and full knowledge of how it works. Otherwise, they could use it to spy on us."

While Lisa did agree in principle, she also believed they were expecting too much. "I understand your point, but this is the first time in a week they have even shared any information. I will be recommending to the General that we allow them on their ship. I hope that you can do the same to your superiors"

While waiting for the superiors to make their decision, Lisa had decided to grant a token of their reward. She had already called John over to have a spar with Null. Lisa had to remain to be the observer and translator.

Null could barely contain his excitement and was bouncing over in the corner. Before the bout could start a clone of Infy had already left Null body and had come over to stay near Lisa. 'I still don't understand how their relationship works and who is responsible for what.'

"Thank you for this" Infy comment had interrupted her thoughts.

Infy continued "I know you all have many questions, but we did only come here to experience contact with humans. Null being able to communicate with you and now being able to fight with John. Are the kind of experiences, he has been dreaming of for the last few years"

Back in the middle of the room. John was currently avoiding a flurry of attacks from Null. "It is clear you've had some training, but you are too predictable!" John comment and could see a small pout on the child's face. "He says if he had his suit this would be different" Lisa couldn't help but chuckle and continued to translate. "He also says you are too slow, and it must be because you're old".

John had been taking it easy on the boy but given the snark, he decided it was time to teach him a lesson. He accelerated his motion and was quickly able to subdue Null. This when on for about an hour. It didn't seem like much, but John was amazed by the end of the spar. 'He has improved this much in only an hour of training. I am having to use 90 percent of my strength to contain him. I guess it was because he was getting used to fighting without his suit'

At the end of the day when Null and Infy returned to their cell, they were both pleased with the day results.
