The Birth

The Watcher had access to technology that humans could only dream of and had long ago set up an instant communication system that was integrated into the different information networks of earth. After researching possible baby-raising solutions on both the public and some more protected sections of the earth information network, they had settled on a solution.

Humans had generated many different systems for rearing children in space. Babies were considered a drain on resources and difficult to manage during long space journeys. The systems normally integrated life-support systems and networked virtual living environments that aim at accelerating both physical, social, and mental development of children while using the least amount of resources.

Project NGSS was one such system. It was a system developed in secret by the Martian military in an attempt to create the next generation of super-soldiers, they would train the children from birth to be the ultimate soldier. This system had a few drawbacks like reducing the overall life span of the child and increasing mental instability but The Watcher was sure it could use its advanced knowledge to correct for these flaws. It was looking forward to having its guard human.

Time moved quickly, The Watcher had sent out a drone to recover KMBS-A05 and to bring it towards its research base while simultaneously creating and upgrading the Project NGSS pod getting it ready for its new occupant. It didn't take long until The Watcher detected changes in life signs of the merge pod that indicated it was time for the baby to enter the world. The Watcher had planned for this and quickly enacted its plans, It instructed its new specially designed drone to deliver the baby via c-section and implant it into its new pod.

It was going to plan, the baby was removed and placed into a new pod and the new life support systems were turned on and the calibration systems were started. The pod started to multiple different warning alarms started ringing. The baby life signs were crashing and it wasn't going to make it.

The Watcher was currently panicking, this was not the plan. They had become heavily invested in this venture, it had to work. There hadn't been any new Angels since they transcended from their organic bodies more than 100 000 years ago. This condition did not sit well with The Watcher, they had spent millennia studying and experimenting on possible solutions to this stumbling block in their evolution. While this baby was not an Angel it had stirred up some long-forgotten parental instincts leftover from their pre-transcendence day.

The Watcher scanned the newborn infant again, while simultaneously researching all the medical material it could. It had identified the problem; The infant's brain had become severely distorted compared to standard. The exposure to the merge pod during gestation appeared to have significantly affected the baby's development. The baby had become dependent on inputs from the AI to survive.

Knowing the problem wasn't enough, it would be a challenge for The Watcher to find a solution. The merge interface that had connected the AI to the baby had been using the mother as the medium and this was no longer an option. The Watcher tried to implement multiple solutions starting with trying to directly connect the infant back to the merge pod, but it refused to accept the connection. It tried to connect it to the AI that was controlling the NGSS system but it could not identify a suitable host as the infant's brain had deviated too far from standard for the system to adjust.

As the minutes passed by the infant life signs continued to decline, The Watcher needed to find a solution and quickly, or the last 7 months would've been a waste. A medium was needed to help link the AI to the infant or to successfully integrate with the unique brain and allow it infant to survive.

In desperate need of a solution, the Watcher had a sudden epiphany and quickly went into action and moved both the merge pod and the NGSS to his research lab. For more than 3000 years The Watcher has toiled away at the same problem and that problem was how to make more angels. Any of the first-tier races had the ability to create new sentient lifeforms. Angels were not a first-tier race they were a third-tier race which meant that The Watcher was trying to jump the queue, but it could not stand by idle while the Angel race slowly drifted towards extinction. These experiments had always failed and sometimes with explosive consequences like the experiment that led to the mind-death of Lyn Anderson.

Angels don't age or grow; they might sometimes increase or decrease the density of their energy but it was for this reason that The Watcher always focus on creating fully functional Angels as it could not risk being to life a defective Angel that could live forever in a damaged state. This is where the epiphany came into play. The problem was that Angel was required to contain too much energy and the newly form life-forms had no experience in controlling so much energy that they would explode in the process of trying. What if Angel could grow and adapt then they could be created with a fraction of the energy.

The Watcher was quickly adapting its experiment to reduce the amount of energy it would release in the hopes of creating a small energy being that could be used as a temporary medium for connecting the baby to its AI. Normally it would take years to plan and test out new ideas, but The Watcher was out of options so fired up his machines and mentally pressed the button to create a new life-form.
