escape

break free from confinement or control.

The Blood Moon rose in the sky, as the clouds thinned out in the dark astral sky. Lanterns littered the darkened landscape below. Mythical of all kinds littered in one abandoned building. A castle falling apart, it's walls crumbling and columns barely standing. Stained glass windows shattered, just like the life they all once led.

Banners and tapestries of the ancient ones littered the ground, their once beautiful and graceful rulers- now vanquished by the enemy they thought they could outrun. This was their only hope, their final chance.

A Deerkine walked into the halls, her werewolf guard following her. She sighed, her fingers picking at her nails. In all her, she had never seen so much fear and suffering. Children crying… begging to not be taken by the demons that were coming for them. For all of them.

She sighed, her floppy ears falling flat against her head. Her hair tied back to accommodate her sight, she sat on a large piece of rubble. A column that had fallen, unlike its fellow comrades who were managing to still stand. She grumbled under her breath.

Her werewolf looked up; his wolf ears being alerted to a presence. The wolf's body moved, his golden blonde fur moving with him. The Deerkine followed him. It was time.

They looked up and watched the portal open, the families running through in an orderly fashion. They moved together like cogs in a working clock. But the clock was breaking and no matter how hard they tried, it was losing its power. Its magic.

Berlin… a well-known political and civil rights leader, would stay behind with a select few individuals. Together they'd stay behind and seek out the last of their kind. The last to roam the earth and save anyone they could; both human and mythical.

They'd be left behind for a long time. Berlin prayed it to be no longer than ten years, but she was unsure the magic needed would be able to charge and have enough power to open the portal again. She sighed. They didn't have the resources as certain knights did. For all Berlin knew, the Knights of Phoenix took their keys with them- to wherever they may be. Or put them into hiding, so they may never be used against the Queen's will.

But even after all the extent they went to, to keep the power of the Phoenix away from the darkness. The Queen fell and her Knights fell with her. She lost everything, her power, her crown, her people. However, she never lost her loyal followers. They dispersed into different dimensions to lead their own lives and to await the time their Queen arose and to fight back for their kingdom.

But that day never came.

They had families of their own and passed down the legacy to the female descendants, so when the time came for the original Knight to pass, their secrets and legacy were stored and safe. The Knights had to die an honourable death, they had to die to not be found out by the rest of the world. The original Knights of Phoenix are most likely all dead now.

Either they died by their own hand, or people more sinister got to them first. But the Phoenian Knights were to never return, or that's what was believed. Berlin, however, she believed their descendants were still alive. That the magic and legacy could continue, and Phoenix would be restored, and with the Phoenix's power the world would be set right.

It was their last hope.

The final light.

The last turn.

Perhaps, the final cog to fix the broken clock.
