1 A Complicated Manner

It was a fine day in Seiden North High as the bell rang loudly. The sound indicated the start of class and the students were now gathered inside. A tall looking professor had started to lecture as he wrote numbers on the black board behind him. The students had mixed reactions when lesson was starting for it had just been after summer vacation.

Some of the students were lollygagging if not listening to their professor. The classroom however was still quiet in general even though the students were not really focused. Some were asleep, some were folding paper airplanes, some were talking to their other classmates.

One student in particular stood out. She sat near the classroom window as her platinum-blonde hair stood out. She skin which were almost ebony in color if not for the slight flesh hue. Her eyes were blue and she had a smile on her face while she was taking down notes in class.

A piece of paper soon had landed on her desk with the words "Open this Elle" written on it. It would seem that this girl was named Elle.

She opened the folded paper and read what was written.

Are we still on for lunch?

Elle then looked to where the paper came from and saw one of the girls in her class waving her arms at her. She had brown hair and her eyes were orange in color.

The blonde just smiled and wrote something on the paper. She passed it towards the waving girl, but before it could even reach the latter, the professor noticed them passing notes.

"What is this?" he asked as he took the note and an embarrassed reaction was evident from Elle's face. The brown-haired girl as well had an embarrassed reaction. "How many times do I have to tell you that I do not tolerate passing of notes in my class?!" he shouted at them.

"Sorry sir." Elle apologized to him while she was forced to stand up along with her friend. "It won't happen again." She added.

"What's his deal?" the brown-haired girl said as she took a bite out of her rice ball. She chewed with frustration evidently present on her face.

"I have no idea Mion." Elle said to her while she looked up in the skies.

The pair were having lunch on the rooftop of the school. The blue sky was clear and there were puffy clouds in it. The sun was shining bright in the sky as well. The light of the afternoon revealed the gentle color of Elle's eyes. A gentle wind blew her platinum-blonde hair back.

"Always being one with nature huh?" Mion said to her as she took another huge bite from her rice ball.

"What are you talking about?" she asked her once more.

"You always close your eyes when you feel the winds blow against your hair." Mion replied to her. "I swear if I was a guy, I'd totally ask you out." She then inserted as a comment.

Elle turned red a bit.

"What was that about?" she said as she turned away from her. "Weirdo." She added.

"Yeah whatever. You do know that you are quite a heartthrob, right?" Mion stated to her. "Almost all of the guys in our class wants to go out with you." She said to her with a snicker.

"It's their opinion so I don't really care." Elle said with a smile. "Besides, I'm not really focused with all the relationship stuff happening in our school right now. The only reason why girls our age get boyfriends is because they want to show off." She said to her.

"Yep I sense gripe." Mion joked towards her.

Elle looked towards the sky.

"I'm thinking of more important stuff right now." She said out loud.

Mion was perplexed with the statement that she uttered.

"What do you mean more important stuff?" she asked her blonde friend.

"Like, is there more to life than where we are now?" Elle said. "I find it hard to believe that our purpose in life is just to study, to graduate and to get a job." She said with a sigh.

"You sound like you need a boyfriend." Mion said. "It's just the boredom getting to you." She joked to her.

"No, I'm serious." Elle said in response. She sighed afterwards. "Forget it you wouldn't understand anyway." She said out loud and the two friends continued to eat their lunch in peace.

The after-school bell had rung and the students were now making their way out of the campus premises. Elle and Mion were together as usual as the pair of friends made their way towards the school gate.

"So, I guess we'll hang out again tomorrow?" Mion said to her.

"We always do. It's a surprise that I don't get tired of you." Elle joked to her. She smiled at her friend afterwards.

"Whatever." Mion replied. "Anyway, see you tomorrow." She said to her.

Elle walked on her way. She was carrying her small backpack with one shoulder. She held on her books with both of her hands. The blonde made her way towards the train station which she usually takes home.

The blonde climbed up the stairs and purchased her ticket from the counter and now was in the waiting area. She waited for the train.

Elle noticed that the train was a bit later than usual as she began to feel uneasy with her situation. She saw that the other passengers waiting were already leaving the station.

"That's weird." She said. "Is the train not coming?" Elle said afterwards.

The blonde still persisted on waiting for her passenger train for ten minutes, but then the time had elapsed and she too was fed up with the wait and instead she exited the station.

Thankfully she knew another way to get home for there was a cab station just around the corner of the train station.

She made her way towards the cab station. The said station was on the other side of the street so it was going to be a tedious street to cross, especially at this time since the streets of Shibuya are in rush hour.

Elle made her way towards the pedestrian lane and she was accompanied by other people as well who waited for the light which signaled them to walk to turn green.

It turns out that whilst they were all waiting, there had been a police chase that had been happening as gunshots were heard near them. From a distance one can see the speeding vehicle nearing the area where the pedestrians were. The vehicle was on the road so there was no threat of anybody being run over but the sense of urgency and tension within the pedestrians in the lane began to build and they were themselves rushing.

She tried to keep calm and retained composed but then due to the people being disorganized, she was pushed off the pedestrian lane and onwards to the street where the chase was happening. This was bad because the speeding vehicle was closing in on her and it would seem that she had no time to run back to the pedestrian lane.

The blonde felt fear in her as she felt that she was about to die and there was no time to get back to the lane. The fear paralyzed her in a way as the speeding vehicle was about to run her over.

Elle trembled in fear as she closed her eyes.

A loud crash was heard near the taxi station and an explosion was heard as well. The speeding car crashed towards the side where the taxi station was and the police immediately swarmed the area.

The blonde trembled in fear, thinking that she was dead, but then she felt that someone was carrying her.

I felt her tremble in fear as I held her in my arms. She crossed her arms around my neck. This girl was scared all right, scared of death. Her eyes had tears falling from them as they looked at me with fear and sadness.

This girl was probably wondering on why I saved her and to be honest I was wondering on that myself.

I put her down on the ground gently and she was still scared. Of course, she would be, I mean who wouldn't be when they almost met with their demise?

"Th-thank you." She said to me. Her blue eyes stood out and her platinum-blonde hair as well.

I stood up soon for people were beginning to surround us.

"No problem." I said to her with a smile and soon I walked away from her afterwards.

"Who was he?" Elle thought to herself as she stood up and saw him walk further away. His black worn out trench coat was what she saw now as he walked away, but his yellow eyes stood out for her. She thought that he had such a calm demeanor and she estimated that he was about her age.

"Why would he save me?" she asked inside her head. These thoughts continued to go on inside her as she made her way home.

On the far side however, the man wearing the trench coat was above a rooftop of a building. His pet Raven then perched itself on his right shoulder again.

"That was against the rules master." The avian said to him.

Ozi smiled as he saw the sun setting down in front of him.

"It's fun to break them, you know for a while at least." He replied to the raven.

"Why would you save that girl? I thought you were all about letting nature take its course? Whatever happened to no accidents?" the raven bombarded him with questions.

"You think too much." Ozi replied as he jumped off from the building and was engulfed with blue flames. He disappeared after that.

Indeed, it was a mystery, what he did or why he did it.
