12 Date

'They even know where I live,' Kevin thought, looking around the familiar street. In fact, he was dropped off right next to his house.

This once again showed how much influence the union holds and finding an orphan's house in a matter of minutes doesn't seem to be a problem for them.

"Anyway, let's just go inside, I'm so tired".

Kevin slowly walked towards his door, but for some reason, his house wasn't locked. Kevin immediately dismissed his presence thinking it was a burglar because he clearly remembered closing the door before leaving.

He silently unholstered his blade and pushed the door open.

Inside, everything seemed normal, but most importantly, the Tv was in place. After all, it was the most valuable thing in this apartment and the best thing that kept him from getting bored. He couldn't let it be stolen.

He looked around the room again and finally noticed the abnormality. Someone was already lying on his bed, wrapped in a white blanket. Kevin saw the sheet move up and down slightly, indicating that it was a living thing.

He stood there for a while, checking the frequency of the person's breaths, finally figuring out that he or she was sleeping.

'Maybe it's a homeless person?' Kevin thought as he couldn't understand who in their right mind would break into someone's apartment just to take a nap.

Kevin slowly pushed the blanket aside, trying not to make any sudden movements so as not to wake the person up.

But after seeing, who was sleeping in the bed, he relaxed and smiled heartily.

It was Sophia, his dear girlfriend.

Kevin stared at her delicate face for a few seconds before realizing that he was still holding the sword. He promptly put it back in its sheath and looked around the room for a place to hide it.

'Thank goodness she was sleeping. I wouldn't know what to say if she saw me coming back with a sword in my hand,' Kevin spoke in his head while placing the sword in the vent as a secret area.

He also decided to hide his bracelet since Sophia might recognize it from her father's equipment.

'Anyway, what the hell is she doing here...but....well, let's ask her tomorrow,' Kevin thought as he flopped down on the bed right next to the sleeping Sophia.

It had been a long day, so many things happened that it was hard to even believe. Kevin was extremely exhausted, so he passed out just after a few seconds.

*Yawn*

Kevin opened his eyes witnessing the bright rays of light ahead which forced him to once again close them. After attuning to the light from the long sleep, he rose from the bed while slightly stretching himself.

Sophia was still sleeping soundly, which made Kevin wonder what made her so exhausted. But well, it didn't matter, so he headed towards the kitchen alone to cook something.

He decided to make fried eggs, the only breakfast he knows how to properly execute. But a sudden scream from the bedroom distracted him, prompting the eggs to fall to the floor.

"KEVINNN!"

Sophia stormed into the kitchen and lunged at Kevin with all her might. She hugged him so tightly that a shiver of pain ran down his spine.

"What's wrong Sophia, let me go"

"Where have you been, you didn't answer my phone calls so I decided to check on you, but you weren't home either," she urged with watery eyes.

"I was just out for a walk," Kevin replied smiling as he stroked her soft hair.

On the outside, he appeared calm, but on the inside, he was in a complete panic. How could he forget such a simple thing as answering the phone? But what infuriated him, even more, was why did she have the keys from his apartment?

*sniff*

*sniff*

"Why do you smell like blood?" she asked with seriousness shimmering from her eyes.

'Are you a dog?' Kevin thought while making up any reason in his head as to why would he return at night smelling of blood.

"Hmmm... that's because I have a part-time job as a butcher," Kevin replied, scratching the back of his head with his hand and looking to the side as if embarrassed, "after all, I have to return the gift you gave me."

Sophia, after hearing his response, hugged him even tighter as she murmured:

"That was a gift, you don't have to return it"

"Still, it's better to have a job than not have one" Kevin countered trying to change the topic.

"Just, don't overwork yourself, and please answer my calls" Sophia replied as she broke free from Kevin's embrace and turned her gaze to the broken eggs on the floor.

"Since you don't have any food left at home, let's go on a date!" she spoke, smiling sweetly.

"Don't you have school soon?"

"We still have an hour before that, so plenty of time"

Kevin took a quick breath, understanding that this was an impossible offer to refuse.

"Oh.. and if you lied about being a butcher," Sophia crowed while walking back into the bedroom, "you're dead."

"..haha"

'What a scary woman,' Kevin thought as he cleaned up the mess in panic.

Although Sophia looked harmless, she was actually Kevin's biggest nightmare, almost comparable to the almighty mother.

Oh well, at least she wasn't bugging him.

"Kevin, change your clothes, your dark coat is too eye-catching" Sophia shouted from the bedroom, "I don't want our date ruined because the girls are staring at you."

"It's not my fault I am so handsome" Kevin muttered lightly.

"What did you say? I didn't hear you"

"Hahaha, nothing" Kevin said as he put on a plain black t-shirt instead of his coat so he wouldn't stand out too much.

"Yeah, that's better" Sophia uttered as she placed her hand on Kevin's chest "Shall we go then?"

"I guess so ... But where exactly are we going?" asked Kevin.

He didn't really want to go to crowded places, he preferred peaceful, quiet areas because it allowed his mind and body to relax.

"It's a surprise, but I'm sure you'll like it!" she announced impatiently while dragging Kevin out of the apartment. She was walking pretty fast, so Kevin had to pick up his pace too.

"Let's get something to eat first!" she shouted in joy, starting to move even faster.

Kevin finally understood why she was sleeping so much. If she kept this kind of character up all day, it would surely be exhausting.

Well, Kevin likes her even more this way.

Since they were moving fast, Kevin didn't even notice how they were already in the market. Sophia simply began to pour various fruits and sweets into the basket filling it up in no time.

"Sophia, isn't that too much?"

"I'll pay for it," Sophia interrupted Kevin as she took out a few bronze coins.

Kevin just smiled wryly smiled, finally accepting that he does need a way to make money. After all, he can't always let his girlfriend pay for him, it's too embarrassing.

Hunter's job is profitable, but it's not consistent income and it's too dangerous. So terrible that Kevin has even encountered a monkey strong enough to destroy the city on the first day.

At least he was lucky enough that it ignored him.

"Alright, let's go," Sophia mumbled while giving a few bronze coins to the cashier. Kevin exhaled briefly and followed the girl, wondering when her energy would fade.

This time the path they took was different. There were no modern buildings around, it honestly looked more like a village than the usual Hiroshima. The people all around were dressed in revealing cheap clothes. They were also holding long rakes, causing Kevin to understand what this place was.

"Sophia, why are we at the farm?" Kevin asked as Sophia didn't seem to stop even after entering this part of town.

Sophia just giggled and proceeded forward, not bothered by the constant curious looks from the citizens. People rarely entered this part of the city since there was nothing interesting here, but now two children were marching through here at full speed.

Of course, everyone would be inquisitive.

"Soph-Sophia, let's slow down a bit," Kevin said, taking a few deep breaths between sentences.

"Come on, are you an old man? We're almost there," Sophia replied while stimulating her pace instead. Kevin didn't care any further and hoped that the destination was truly near.

After a few more minutes of running, Kevin felt the ground lift and the grass grow taller.

Finally, Sophia stopped as she let go of Kevin's hand and went ahead, granting Kevin some time to take a few deep gasps. Kevin thought that no matter how good this place was, it still wouldn't be worth running such a distance.

He took a step forward as well, but the view in front, made all previous thoughts instantly vanish.

His eyes feasted around, surveying the glorious landscape.

Sophia brought him to the top of the hill, from which the whole city could be seen, with the skyliners attracting most of his attention.

But most importantly the atmosphere was calm and peaceful here, just to his liking.

He exhaled a satisfied breath as his face became warm from the constant winds from afar.

"I knew you'd like it," Sophia said while taking out the food she bought earlier and beginning to munch everything in the sight.

'No wonder she has so much energy,' Kevin thought, watching Sophia devour the food before muttering, "What a monster."

Luckily Sophia didn't seem to hear Kevin's statement and she simply took out a strawberry extending it out to him.

It was a common thing for lovers to feed each other, so Kevin directly bent down and bit into the fruit.

It was delicious, sweet, with a hint of sour. Of course, it was much better because he was being fed by his beautiful girlfriend.

Maybe the saying "food is better when you eat with the people you're close to" is accurate, after all.

"Don't just stand there, come here," Sophia said in a rather annoyed tone. Kevin is a man, yet almost every time she has to make the first move. This sometimes drove her to discouragement.

Kevin, seeing her angered face, smiled and took a seat right next to his girlfriend. They bumped shoulders with each other and Sophia, noticing the opportunity, rested her head on Kevin's shoulder.

The atmosphere became quiet and peaceful, with a tinge of romance in the air. Sitting on top of the mountain overlooking the city with the girl you cherish. What could be better?

Kevin fell in love with such a mood, he lightly closed his eyes and laid his head on Sophia as well. Both of them were slowly yet steadily falling asleep, pleased at this moment.

However, a slight buzz of alarm destroyed all the pleasure. Sophia somberly took out her phone, already knowing it was time for school. She sorrowfully looked at Kevin, who just smiled saying:

"Don't worry about it and go, school comes first," Kevin assured her, "Thank you for today, I loved our date."

Sophia instantly lit up like a cheerful flower. She wrapped her hands around Kevin's head and gave him a light kiss on the cheek.

"We can go again on Saturday," Sophia replied with a smile.

"Sure, sure, now go, I'm certain the teacher would be stressed if the "prodigy" of the class would be late"

Sophia hugged Kevin once more before promptly running off and disappearing into the distance.

Kevin remained sitting on the grass while finishing the bits of food.

"Since she is already gone, I should think of a way to make some money"
