Merlyn had fallen under a curse after going after her former fiance's new fiance, leading her to harm her family, fellow villagers, and many other lifeforms she came in contact with.
After fleeing her village and secluding herself for nearly 16 years, her brother, Leonard, finds her. Expecting rejection, she is shocked when her brother forgives her and even wants to help her.
