My Case Is Reopened

The next day Jeremy woke up and successfully hid his identity and headed out of the restaurant.

[Where are we going today?]

"To find a night shift."

Jeremy was aware that Connor was hiring a person who could carry his stuff around. No doubt he was a man who preferred the old way, people over machines.

And that would prove to be his doom because Jeremy Grayson was about to play with his preferences.

[I'm unable to grasp what you are trying to do, Jeremy?]

"Haha, you are staying in my brain yet are unable to read my thoughts. How ironic!"

Jeremy mocked at her and headed towards the destination.

[....]

He got a night shift successfully without exposing himself and returned back to the restaurant.

[So you are doing two jobs as camouflage and will get access to Connor's villa to stay up to date. Clever!]

"More or less, I want to hack into his computer to know what actually happened to my case. Who knows I might find something interesting too."

[But your case had already been closed Jeremy, why do you want to dig the grave now? Start fresh.]

Jeremy replied to Axela into his head while wiping the table, he had to go to Connor's house at night. Whereas the agency had run a check over the intruder in Jeremy's home but found nothing in their database.

It caused a panic in the organisation that perhaps somebody now knew about their experiment. After all, the appearance of that biker was not normal considering he was laced with high tech stuff.

And disappearance of Jeremy Grayson was also a question mark because the database didn't even match the intruder's fingerprints. Yes, not to forget the chips in his body which were disabled the moment when Axela granted his command.

"I'm aware that looking for bones now is an act of stupidity but I'm curious who exactly am I? I mean I can sense that I'm different from every other citizen here."

[What are you implying by "different from other citizens?"]

"Can't you see yourself I have distorted memories, while others have a record of their lives. I had those chips within me while others never had such a tracking system or whatever."

Jeremy sounded quizzical while Axela was succeeding into making him ponder upon the life he has been living.

"Something still is amiss and everything around me feels...unreal. I constantly think that somebody in authority is keeping an eye on us and we don't have our life. But we are being controlled and are mere experimental subjects."

Jeremy walked towards Connor's house while talking to the system in his head, whereas a surveillance flying bot followed him for no apparent reason.

[I'm sensing some disturbance in the signals nearby us, Jeremy.]

Jeremy turned around to see a small android device flying on the air nearly the size of a football.

"I believe so someone is really interested in me. By the way, Axela, do you have any idea about that death guy? Because he hadn't appeared after your emergence."

[I don't know who he is and I have seen your memories to figure out about your life too. But there is no record in my programming about him.]

"Maybe he really is just someone I have made up in my mind, nothing more than an illusion."

The bot behind him shone red and saw Jeremy entering the house, while the person spying through the bot smirked knowing that things were going his way.

Jeremy walked inside the villa and spent the night sorting out some mere folders in his computer. But every now and then his eyes lurked towards Connor who sat a few steps away from him.

[You know Jeremy I can play the whole recording of his screen in your head.]

"Oh fuck! Really?"

Jeremy shouted in his head while his fingers ran on the digital keyboard, whereas the see through digital screen was in front of his eyes.

[Do you want to see it at the moment or I should just record and save it for later?]

"Play it in my head."

Axela played the screen while Connor worked without any disturbance. Jeremy's eyes could see the whole page on which Connor had been working.

It startled him when a message popped up on Connor's screen and the sender was named death guy. Jeremy wanted Connor to open the mail but instead he shifted his gaze towards Jeremy.

They both exchanged smiles when Connor granted him a leave, Jeremy left the house.

[What now? It was a futile attempt because I think he suspects you.]

Jeremy didn't pay heed to her words instead he was putting clues together. Of course what else can you expect from a detective?

"Axela, can you somehow check what Connor is doing?"

He knew something was wrong and the whole situation seemed strange.

[As per the surveillance of his neighbour Connor's house is on fire.]

"What!?"

He stopped in the middle of the street while watching the digital  digits of the clock embedded in  his wrist, which were about to strike twelve.

"I knew it! Hey, can you fill me in with that restaurant's situation now?"

Jeremy strode towards the nearby alley knowing he had to hide himself, because twenty four hours were completed now.

[The owner got arrested for some unknown reason about an hour ago.]

A great pain circulated in his body which forced Jeremy to slump on the down.

"Right on time, now my appearance will change. This is a great camouflage!"

A smirk appeared on his face and once again his appearance baffled science and magic.

[Why do I suspect that you already knew something like this would happen?]

"Yes, I knew the moment you informed me about the spy cameras in my house. It was obvious they saw my face and would track me in order to reach Jeremy Grayson."

Of course, Jeremy had no name or identity now because each day he was someone else. Thus, he addressed himself that way.

"No one except Connor ever visited me and it would be suspicious, if an unfamiliar face would emerge there without breaking the lock."

[So, you wanted to make sure they are tracking you or not and if yes then through what means.]

"Now you are thinking like me, my love. They know I'm alive and currently in the city, to be a bitch to them."

Jeremy chuckled and walked out of the alley looking like a femboy this time.

"This whole city is like a big trap of technology and with this newfound ability to shapeshift  we can be caught in any tiny camera eye."

Jeremy Grayson was now sure that the death guy was looking for him but there was no record of Connor's files now. But perhaps you are wrong to underestimate the guy who had spent so many years among detectives.

He was fully aware that with Axela nothing can remain untouched and unfolded!
