3 Under Attack

"Get down." Blaze yelled as he pulled me down to the floor once he had ducked down, the bullet just missing his head. "Sh (censored)! I don't have my weapons." He said. He was so serious but this was literally a life and death issue so it made sense.

Everything was quiet after we ducked and glass pieces from the jar that was shot earlier were scattered on the floor. We waited in anticipation on the floor under one of the tables in silence.

"Do you think they left?" I said as I looked a bit up from the crouched position I was in towards the window that had a bullet hole in it. It's been quite awhile since I heard another bullet, maybe the sniper fled.

"Nope, they never left." Blaze said looking towards the glass window I was looking at. "They want to draw us out. Make us think they gone and once we stand up or they see movement... it's game over." He was dead serious.

I stayed on the ground. Blaze made hand signals to show which way to go. Honestly, I know this was a serious, "I'm going to get shot" situation but I didn't know what the heck hand signals that were. Somehow, I could picture him, as serious and as heroic as he was doing that... "Kakaaw kakaaw" bird sound noise.

"You know? I'm not deaf, I can still hear you." Sarcasm was laced in my tone. "I need to get my backpack." I was worried, that was my only way to go back home since the device that brought me here was in there. If I lose it... I'll never get back. Thinking about it now... if I leave will the other me not be here? I mean, we did combine. Does that mean the me in this world won't exist anymore? Or if I change things will I exist in both worlds?

I broke out of my daze as I looked at Blaze staring at me. "Why do I always have to be the one to save your ass?" He muttered to himself as he pulled me near to the doorway.

A gun shot was fired. "See, I told you they never left." He said as he glanced towards me. We were still ducked down moving around from behind the table as we tried to get to the door.

I looked on the table as he pulled me towards the doorway. My backpack. There it was on the table with shattered pieces of glass around it.

"I need to get my backpack." I said once again.

"We need to get out of here." Blaze said still gripping my arm.

"Fine you go," I said looking at him as he stopped with a regretful look on his face, "I'll stay."

"Skyler, I'm not leaving without you." His voice was deep. "Forget the backpack. Let's go."

"I'm not leaving without it, Blaze. You can go without me." I said harshly. More harsh than I wanted it to be.

"I said I'm not leaving without you." He said loudly. "Do you have a death wish?"

I went quiet. "No," I said, "it's just that..." I paused, "that backpack is my only way home." I couldn't help but feel a bit sad as I said this. What home did I actually have to go back to? If anything, this, right now is more of a home than my old one.

He looked at me for awhile his jaw that was clenched earlier went back to normal as his features softened. His grip on my arm loosening. "Fine, I have an idea but you not going to like it."

He felt around the table that was on the side of the door as we stayed crouched beneath it. The table with the backpack was in the centre of the room. "You'll get shot if you go back for it." He said as he saw me glancing at the backpack again. "Are you fast on your feet?" He asked in a serious tone as he looked around the room.

"Yeah, why?" I answered feeling a bit confused.

"I'm serious Skylar," he said now making me face him and griping my shoulders, "are you fast on your feet?"

"Y-yes, I... I am fast." I replied as he basically shook me. He looked beyond serious and his eyes were cold.

"I just need to know if you can do this." He said. "Damn it, if you get hurt I don't know what I'll do."

He pulled me further into the room. Moving away from the doorway we moved to the side of the room so that we could not be seen through the window. We were on the snipers blindside now. From what I had seen it looked like they could only shoot as far as the table in the centre of the room since the window was right there.

Blaze pulled down a few small pot plants from the table we stood at that was against the wall. He began emptying out the pots on the floor, filling the floor with soil and vibrant green plants.

"What are you doing?" I looked at him quizzically.

"Okay..." he said once he emptied all the pots. There were about ten of them. "I'm going to throw these and when I do I need you to run and duck as soon as you reach the table."

"Okay..." I said with a gulped.

"As soon as I throw, I need you to do exactly what I said. No mistakes, understand." His expression, stern.

He picked up a pot and then flung it in the air. As soon as it launched I run and slid. I just managed to land under the table. Just as the pot was still descending three bullets made their way into the room and then the firing stopped. They only seemed to shoot when there is movement. I was right under the bag that was on the table.

I glanced over at Blaze signaling him to throw again. He threw three pots this time and as he did bullets came flying in left, right and centre. I grabbed the backpack quickly as each of the pots were shot midair. A bullet then hit the table just missing my hand. Damn it, they must have seen me.

Once I had the backpack I began to crawl back to where Blaze was. I was slithering on the ground like a snake with the backpack rested under my arm as my other hand was over my head. He threw more pots to divert the bullets as I made my way to him through all the broken glass that seemed to be cutting my arms but as painful as it was it beat getting shot.

The pots shattered. Each of them falling down to the ground as they got shot. I finally made it to Blaze who pulled me towards the door.

"Let's get out of here." He said.
