35 Azrael's View (3)

[17 February 774/Backstory]

The smile that I wore was to hide my concern from viewing Dorothy's high keen observation of her surroundings.

There weren't many people that could possess such awareness.

Dorothy could understand many troublesome situations and think of the best possibility for her to get out of it.

'... She's too smart.'

Her reflects and quick thinking skill towards a problem that the majority wouldn't possibly be able to get passed through.

Her demeanor is entirely impressive.

'Which will be bad for me if this continues.'

The problematic thought appears. I quickly dismissed it and gazed back at Dorothy.

I smiled once more as I chuckled at her previous caring statement.

I could guess that Dorothy let out an amusing smirk at my response.

"You sure talk a lot when you're sick."

She exclaimed teasingly.

The carefree atmosphere has slowly returned around our presence.

I slightly laugh at her rarely light-hearted attitude with my hand pointed at my mouth.

"Well, only my body is dying after all. Not my mouth."

I jokingly stated which lightens the atmosphere more.

I decided that it was best to gain a much better position to talk to her.

With that, I struggled with myself to get up from the sleeping stance on my bed to a sitting stance so that I could face her properly.

"What are you--"

Dorothy exclaimed, surprised by my sudden act.

She quickly leans forward closer to me as her hands frantically move towards my ill body's condition.

"Azrael-! You're still sick!"

I turned my eyes upwards around in a circular motion with a sigh escaping my breath.

I don't really have a fond of being view as weak.

"Geez, I'm not an old man."

Without another warning, I gently pulled her hand to sit beside me on the bed.

My eyes slightly widen beneath the blindfold when I grasp her hand longer.

'.. Her hand.. It's so cold.'

I thought as I gently released my grasp of her hand.

Even if my eyes are blindfolded, I will still know where she is.

"Do you want to know why I cover my eyes?"

I asked, trying to hide the hesitating tone while turning my head towards her.

"Yes. Why?"

I decided that telling her would be my downfall.

But,

Just pretend that this will be enough to atone for my lies.

I slowly raised my hand and carefully unfolded the black blindfold around my eyes.

When I turned my head towards her, her curious serious expression was quickly replaced with her eyes suddenly going wide at the sight.

That beautiful aquamarine eyes looked at me, surprised.

"...What are--"

I have already expected her stunned expression.

"Your-"

"Cool, right?"

I quickly cut her words with a self-compliment.

Dorothy, on the other hand, quickly shook her head and rephrased her words.

"Not that! H-how did you change your eye color?"

She tilted her head to the other side as she was confused by the sudden change of colors.

I smirked confidently.

"Actually, this is my original color."

I answered her truthfully.

"But how-"

Her eyes grew wider and her sentences were still left unfinished.

There was a sudden short silence then afterward Dorothy's expression slightly changed as it was revealed that she had just come to a realization.

"...You're-!"

She subconsciously points her fingers at me with a slight shake movement.

"Ooh~ you're smart at figuring this out."

I put on a playful grin while looking at her as I anticipated her fast response and correct deduction.

"... How can a race like you could live inside this kingdom?"

When she asked that question, I still kept a confident smile towards her.

But in truth, the inside of me was far different from the demeanor that I displayed.

'Ah... She's too..'

That day, I lost.

[21 February 774/Backstory]

I looked at the pin that was in the box.

I was planning on giving it to her as my eyes narrow at the object.

'Uwahhh, I ended up asking the famous designer to design this simple hairpin!!!'

My cheeks redden with the imaginative thought of giving it to her as I look closely at the silver pin.

'Well.. She never wore anything.. and I guess she's not the type to like accessories.'

After looking at the hairpin countless times, it makes me wonder if she will like it or not.

If my decision to request such a thing is right or wrong.

'Why is this so hard?'

Giving it to her feels a little heavy on my heart and I became more and more embarrassed.

However, in the end, I ended up giving it to her and told her it's cheap.

But I'm glad, she wears it.

-

Different from my expectations, my calculations of the plan have become false in counting.

She proves that fact to me by exposing myself when we're at the Forest Dreams.

It was right before she was captured.

The event of her capture was just like what I planned.

'But... I would never think that she would know about me being a Directive Special Knight.'

I have never anticipated that she actually knew everything from the start.

'The encounter we had after weeks wasn't good either.'

I still remembered when I confronted her in prison, she wouldn't listen to a word I said.

I also left first, without saying anything.

But after knowing her for quite some time, I know, more than anyone, as she is planning something big to escape and put an end to the Directive Order.

'She never knows when to give up.'

And more than anyone, I know for a fact that Lucretia is the only good and peaceful place for her.

I suddenly clenched on my vest near my chest as I remembered her face again.

My heart hurts every time I see her.

It was like I have seen her before from 120 years ago.

A person.

A pitiful woman.

She was right in front of me.

She was bowing and pleading for something that I can't even remember.

But I didn't hear the plea and abandoned it just like that.

[8 April 774/Backstory]

'But-!!! Why?'

After a few weeks, Edward decided to change everything including our agreement about Dorothy.

'Why the sudden change!? Why did he decide to execute Dorothy on 10 April!?'

With the sudden change of decision, I decided to visit him again at the Central Directive.

I opened and entered his office without his permission as I don't really care about the etiquette anymore.

It's like my head was empty and filled with anger.

When our presence had met, I looked at him furiously in which he only looked back at me silently with a deadpanned look.

Edward is a mysterious men, I never know how he look at me beneath the bandages.

He never took off his bandage around his eyes.

That's why I stared at him without knowing the look in his eyes.

"Why did you change everything!?"

Today, all of my fear of him was immediately gone. All of them have vanished into thin air.

I raise my tone as I shouted bitterly.

"You said 'fine' back then! What are you trying to prove me-!"

Before I could even finish my shouting, he raises his hand, signing me to stop talking.

Because of my habit, I immediately closed my mouth with a straightened body posture.

I start to sweatdrop afterward while waiting for his response.

"... That woman, Dorothy Lucretia O'Dell, has to be executed."

I could only bit my lip at his plain answer while clenching my fist in frustration,

"I think this is enough to satisfy you."

After that, he gaze downwards, minding his own business.

He was writing something on his desk like he was treating me as nonsense.

Like I am just someone he could throw anytime.

Not feeling satisfied, I asked threateningly.

"... Do you want me to crush 'Her' flower?"

I admit that I do have the audacity for challenging him without any hesitation as he stopped on his track by using his most soft subject.

That 'Woman' from 120 years ago.

"You..? Crushing 'Her' flower?"

He asked coldly as he raised his head, looking towards me.

I glare at him and answered him.

"Yeah, her Âme."

"Do you think you dare?"

I looked at him with wide eyes as I do not expect this answer coming from him.

"What?"

"Have I not make myself clear? Go ahead if you want to. Destroy 'Her' flower as you'd like."

My eyes widened.

It was unbelievable that the man sitting in front of me has let a demon like me to destroy the Âme.

"What are you--"

"Under the name of Directive Order, I will not show any sign of disobedience against the orders. That includes you, Azrael."

He exclaimed stubbornly as I narrowed my eyes at him.

But later on, I slowly let out a confident smile.

"... Too bad,"

I exclaimed as he raises his brow.

"Remember that I'm still a Directive Special Knight?"

"..."

With Edward remaining silent, I raise tucked my sleeves away from my wrist while showing my zero sign in front of him.

"I can do as I'd like, as a demon as well."
