2 Colourless

A mother butterfly lands upon a plant with such grace, her silver blue and black wings a worshipped sight to behold. Such an exquisite insect of purity and refined beauty could never hold a hideous form is what the folks in the kingdom would say as the butterfly laid her last batch of eggs under the leaf.

Her job was done and with her eggs placed she flew away with many others alike her.

A day of Spring the eggs began to hatch, small almost microscopical worms seemed to crawl and wriggle out of their soft shell like eggs. Each one appeared to be white and almost transparent- all except one. That one being the last to break out from it's soft shell. It wriggled much slower and appeared more dark an ominous than it's siblings.

As the days went on, it was a fight of survival, the plant they had been born on began to die and with it their means of growth and survival. Most of the black larva's siblings perished as birds and other predators that would be seen as prey to a wolf or bear consumed them. The harsh climate and reality these small insects were living was beyond comprehension as a few more months passed.

As noon set one day, the black caterpillar hung upside down on a stray leaf that had just budded. As time went on, the days turned into months and each time the suns set in the sky the Chrysalis became more black. Just as black as the black caterpillar that underwent complete metamorphosis within. Then one dark stormy day of grey, it was time, slowly but surely the once black caterpillar emerged as a black butterfly.

Unlike it's mother or siblings, it's wings were shaded of more black shades then the sliver blue and black that the species commonly held.

As it emerged the ran set in from the east and cascaded down from one end of the land to the other. The suns both now opposite to each other confirming the time of midday slowly became consumed by darker clouds.

The black butterfly had successfully emerged but the ran caused it to remain in place even though the first moments of flight were instinctive. However if the black butterfly moved now, the heavy rain would surely destroy it's now formed wings.

So there it waited, it stayed under the leaf it was just born underneath as the storm rolled on and the sky lit up the dark forest. The woodland creatures ran in fear as the birth of this storm was unnatural, they scurried and clambered into tight spaces to avoid the dark cries of wind and rain.

A single person walked through the storm in content passing through the forest. They wore a black robe with a symbol of a circle with 8 arrows pointing in every direction. They chanted softly but the response of the storm to it was monstrous as the wind destroyed countless trees by their roots being torn from the ground.

"You didn't tell me that the magic empire sent a warlock!" Shouted a commander as he lead his troops on horseback towards the main destructive pinpoint of the storm. The horses grunted and heavily breathed as their riders whipped their backsides with heavy lashes. The hooves of these strong and sturdy herd curbed up mud, dirt and more as the steady galloping thundered with the heartbeat of the storm.

"I wasn't informed by our spies in the empire!" reply yelled his co-commander confirming the commander's suspicion. They had been found out and the magic empire was going to wipe them out before their revolution to the capital.

"We can't let that warlock get close to the kingdom, our King remains to protect the people if we fail but we sure as hell with give these guy a fight!" He roared as he held up his sword and so did those behind him in a strong battle cry of justice.

'May the Sun Gods protect us'

In the split seconds of each collision of a horse with another, the cries of battle sounded both far and close, metal on metal, metal to magic and the heavy thuds of bodies falling to mud and more. The commander swung his sword down at the magic empires army goons as he fiercely fought them back. But these guys weren't his target, it was the man in black behind them. Kicking an empire's knight off his horse he lashed the back of his mount and rode determinedly in the midst of battle towards the eye of the storm.

'You foul being that defies the Sun Gods, I will strike you down in the name of the Kingdom of Auran and the name of my Goddess of blessings Hetra!' His determined fire struck eyes glared daggers holy blessed by his Goddess Hetra, as his sword lit up with the same might of his will and magic combined.

"Die!" He shouted loudly as the warlock saw his approach, in response to it, they casted a magic barrier of protection as strong as their will and magic to their Goddess of destruction Nyx. The commanders blade hit the shield with a reckoning impact. The shield unable to hold, cracked upon the impact and gave way seconds after. This cause the warlock to chant his final spell being 'lightning collision' towards the commander. However it was down in vain as the lightning struck down from the clouds in slow motion, the sword blessed of holy light only came towards the warlocks chest faster. The time difference was too great as the sword slashed deep into the warlocks body causing fresh warm blood to drench the sword. The lightning did not stop either though slower as it too struck the commander but not as fatal a blow. The lightning however coursed through the commanders right leg causing it to explode from his body.

The blood spilled from both flew in slow motion almost between them as they fell to the ground. The death of the warlock came soon after and with his last breath the storm slowly receded. The soldiers of the Kingdom roared in a battle victory cry, as the co-commander ran to his commanding leaders side.

"Commander! You did it! We won!" He cried as the Commander smiled at the young man.

"So we did but they will be back in due time" the commander sat up and looked at his right leg, he would lose too much blood if he didn't stop the bleeding. So using his sword he bunt his leg with his will and magic blessed by his goddess and laughed. This pain was nothing he couldn't handle as the co-commander looked around. "It's no use, the lightning destroyed my leg indefinitely. No healer in existence can reform a lost limb."

"Commander, I will offer you my leg instead-" cutting him off an elbow to his stomach had him cough a bit.

"You idiot, you have a wife and kid to provide for. An old crow commander like me is only good in his time, this present, the future will be you and when you lead the kingdom knights of Auran, I'll be watching"

As the clouds disappeared the two suns in the sky, one red another gold, looked to have now been at least 2 metres apart. This indicating the battle had lasted 5 hours and that the evening would fall onto the land in the next few.

The kingdom soldiers rode away on the spared horses or walked carrying the dead home to their loved ones to bury. The creatures in the forest slowly but surely crawled out from their small places and once again moved about freely. As for the black butterfly, it gently dropped off the leaf and finally fluttered around for the first time, the suns rays upon it's wings merely reflected. It flew with the soldiers just above as they ventured home and inside the kingdom walls. The black butterfly fluttered over the kingdom of Auran where people cheered, clapped, cried and more, their mixed emotions caused from joy and pain both had the knights also smile, cry and roar to the Gods of their victory.

"Princess" spoke a servant to a beautiful young woman, the woman had sadly no sight and sat in a wheelchair. But she was a sight to behold surrounded by plants of the mythical kind and countless butterflies. "I've come to inform you that the war between our kingdom Auran and the Magic Empire Sitle has come to an end with victory to our magic knights" with the news a smile graced her lips.

"That is indeed quite favourable news" her voice like a Goddess had spoken through her would leave any person breathless. Such smooth and elegant vocals had the butterflies harmonise with her, as they only grew closer. The servant bowing his head in respect then disappeared out of the garden and to his normal duties as the princess continued to smile.

The black butterfly ventured towards the servant who had just come from the garden open room and passed him. It experienced a longing for it's other half as the countless other butterflies fluttered around the young woman. The young woman's smile slightly faulted however as she saw it, a colourless soul.

The young princess spoke softly "hello there" as she held up her finger beckoning the black butterfly to come towards her.

The black butterfly with no colour landed on the blind princess's finger, the princess now merely frown not understanding why she saw no colour in the soul of the insect.

"You seem lost" she spoke sympathetically as the black butterfly fluttered ever so slightly to the feeling of her breath upon it's wings. "Even though I was born without sight, I was granted to see the colour of souls but you little butterfly, are colourless"

The other colourful butterflies around the two, didn't dare to approach them, they for some untold reasons feared the black butterfly upon her finger.

"Shall I bless you with a light of your own?" The butterfly crawled along her finger a bit at her words yet as an insect, it didn't understand the gravity of them. "Maybe this is fate that we met little butterfly, your soul is as dark as the black dragon pearl. So I wish to give you this gift" after her words a light engulfed the black insect and penetrated it's small body.

The pure magic and the gift she mentioned embedded itself into the very soul of that black dragon pearl.

"I hope that with this gift you find a happiness you could never find in this life" her smile faded as blood seeped from her lips. "I too hope I might find you in a next life if fate allows it" With a slight nudge the black butterfly flew off into the distance away from the princess who now slumped in her wheelchair void of life.

It was said that a pure and blessed princess would bestow her gift to a loyal and faithful knight but instead the youngest princess of Auran blessed a colourless butterfly.
