4 First Journey (2)

What a magnificent view. An alpha wind deer in all his might resting on the shore. You can tell that is an alpha because of the shape of it's horns. They extend up to one meter and have a weak green light.

But wait a minute, those deers don't rest near water! They rest between thick foliage that makes them feel safe.

So the only explanation is that this one is hurt. But no other deers are nearby. That's strange, they usually stay together even if one is hurt. They stay until it dies or recover.

But this one is alone. That only leave one explanation. Is an defeated old alpha. The law of the jungle is hard. If the alpha can't win against new alpha challengers they can't protect their flock.

So I approached and saw it wounds. It had really nasty wounds caused from horns and kicks. A lot of internal bleeding it seems. And he was in a lot of pain trying to breath.

I couldn't cure it's wounds and ever if I did what place would he go ? No flock will accept him and it will eventually be eaten alive from another predators. I couldn't tame it, our affinities are not the same. I'm a young rock half-giant and he is an alpha wind deer. Even if I did managed to do it then what ? Maybe he could carry me with a lot of effort but certainly couldn't run with me at his back because of his age.

So the merciless way to deal with him would be to give him a quick and clean kill.

I made my prayers to the god of nature, hugged his neck with both of my hands and made a quick twist.

A crisp noise and then silence. I decided to carry him home. To make use of all of him and don't waste anything.

To mask our smell I used both of my yellow moons. One on me and the other one on the wounds of the wind deer.

I carry my backpack on the front and the deer on my back. Slowly going back to my tribe.

This time I decided to go around the wolf territory. The same trick doesn't work if you carry a huge dead pray on your back.

It took me 3 and a half hours. I had to make 3 stops to take a piss, eat some fruits and drink some of my water.

But I finally made it back home. For the position of the sun it was almost 4pm. I had like 2 hours of time to make my weapon of choice with the blood root.

The process was simple enough. You have to make a mold with rocks, submerge the root on water for 2 minutes and then quickly take it out and shape it in the mold. There was a step that was optional, only a few knew this step. If you mix the water with equal volume of your blood you could bind it to yourself. So if anyone else tried to use it, they grew thorns that only harm the wielder and if you keep using it. It would catch on fire and became dust.

But first things first. I need to drop this deer to my mother if I can find her. She is the only leather worker on the tribe. But also a hunter like my dad. The difference is that my dad is a full time hunter and my mother is a part-time hunter. Because she needs to work as a leather worker to provide a little more to our house.

The thing is that they often take hunter assignments together. So they could not be back in a few days, even weeks.

I went to our house and it was empty and no signs of anyone going in after I left early in the morning.

So I left my backpack in my bedroom and carried the deer to the leather apprentice of my mother. Teresa was a young human whose mind always scatter and daydream a lot while working on the leather. She can't hunt but his partner is the strongest young rock giant of the tribe. He is taller than a average giant by at least one meter and in our tribe the tallest is the strongest.

She was saved by him while her whole caravan was being mauled by the forest trolls. He happened to pass by and rescued her while fighting and getting injuries on his left foot that kept him on the bed for one month. The whole month Teresa was nurturing him to health. They eventually falled in love and they are currently living together.

What a cliche love story. But also cute one I think to myself. So anyway I arrived and left the deer. The payment for treating the leather was 3 small rabbits or one stone fist of salt. I agreed to that and she told me that it would be get done in 3 days to get the leather treated.

After that I will ask my mother to sew a good leather armor for me.

Finally free from the deer corpse I could make my weapon! I was so excited that I even ran across the tribe to get to my home. I even bumped our old neighbor Fuyl an old rock giant whose whole body was dark brown. The was the color of strongest the natural armor we could reach as rock giants. Of course since I was a freak who was only 3/4 giant they didn't know how far my natural armor would go.

Of course after I bumped him my whole arm started to hurt like hell but I swallowed my screams of pain and said "Sorry to bump you Fuyl I didn't saw you!" After that I got up and kept running with more attention to my surroundings.

Back there Fuyl was smiling and telling him to himself "Finally you matured, even if you are hurt you can't scream, and even in your tribe you have to be aware of your surroundings. It seems that a good warrior is gonna be revealed in this rite tonight!"

And he kept going to his way slightly smiling.

Back to me I, the mighty fluffy, was concurrently making a good mold of knuckles. And also already prepared a wood basin filled it half with water.

After 1 hour of making the mold on the solid rock with a chisel and a hammer that my father had in his bedroom ( I think that he wanted to be an artist when he was young). I finally made a decent mold.

Now is the hard part. The blood root needed 1 liter of water and 1 liter of blood to be totally submerged for 2 minutes. But I had to fight today. I had to drain my blood without causing injuries to my extremities. Because I will use that to fight.

I stab myself with my bone knife in the belly without touching any vitals and then I immediately inserted a small wood valve to make like a tunnel of blood flowing into the wood basin.

After a few minutes of pain I quickly stopped the bleeding with one light breeze. It was a little bit of a waste to use such herb to do that. But now I don't have a choice. I didn't have money to buy that herb to anyone of the tribe and my parents usually don't save herbs. Most of the time they would take all of them to any unexpected trouble. Maybe one more herb can save a life.

The light breeze properties would stop somewhat the bleeding but if you force yourself is gonna be an open wound again.

Also no-one would buy my herbs since it was for mana potion and there is only one person that used mana and that's our chaman. But he has a lot of them an also higher quality.

So with all my preparations being complete I anxiously submerged the blood root. After 2 minutes I took it out of the bloody basin and began to shape quickly on top of the mold. Each second exposed to the air is going to solidify little by little.

I exhausted all my energy and concentration to make one knuckle. Jesus. I need to make another one before my blood coagulation took affect. I hyped myself and continued.

Is a good thing that I didn't need to bleed anymore. I repeated the process and finally 2 hard knuckles made with wood with pulsing red lines are complete !

I named them "Red Side" named it like any forest has a bloody side of it self.

After I said that to myself my archnemesis appeared again.

This time it said

" Red Side
