13 Chapter 13— Talent and Timeskip

~Fun Fact: Did you know that Professor McGonagall was a skilled Quidditch player, but a bad fall in her last year at Hogwarts forced her to stop playing. The fall occurred during the final game against Slytherin, forcing Gryffindor to lose the Cup. Losing the match resulted in Professor McGonagall's lifelong determination to beat Slytherin and win the Quidditch Cup for Gryffindor.

As my favourite dragon used to say "Time flows ever onwards." And well, it's true. A good few weeks had passed since our first Potions lesson and mum had finally moved on from theory lessons to practical ones. The theory lessons mainly consisted of things Harry and I had already gone over while reading. But mum had thought that it was better to be safe than sorry.

Anyways, we were sitting in the living room ready for our lesson when mum started speaking.

"Transfiguration is magic which changes one object into another. It is possible to change animate objects into inanimate ones as well as the other way around. Some Transfiguration spells change a part of something, such as changing a person's ears from normal ones into cat ears." She said. "There's also Human Transfiguration, the altering of the human body using Transfiguration. For example, changing a person into a Ferret. Make no mistake, I'm telling you this not for you to go and attempt it, but to warn you of the consequences if done incorrectly. If you botch up Human Transfiguration, you could end up stuck in a half transfigured state. Need I explain to you how dangerous that is?"

Harry and I furiously shook our heads. 'Fucking hell, imagine being stuck while reducing your height or even worse, changing your body into one of an animal?' I thought with a shudder. Gathering my focus, I returned my attention to mum's lecture.

"Now, the first thing I will have you do is something that will most probably be your first Transfiguration lesson at Hogwarts. I'd like you to look at the matchsticks in front of you." She said.

Looking down, I saw two matchsticks that hadn't been there a second ago.

"Ayo, where did these come from?!" I exclaimed. "Cos I know for sure they weren't here before!"

Mum winked at me. "Magic little Yan, magic..." She said in a playfully mysterious voice. "Anyways, you two will be taking turns using my wand in order to change these matchsticks to needles. The process will consist of imagining what you want to happen, and then using your magic to cause it. Keep in mind that this wand is mine and as a result, is compatible with me and may not work so well with you two. Now Yan, you're up first."

Handing me her wand, mum took a seat on the sofa as Harry watched on with excitement.

'Well, if anything, I guess now's the time to test the whole wand-sentience thing.' I thought nervously. 'Hey buddy, this is my mum's wand and I know I'm not your master but would you mind helping me out? I'm trying to learn magic you see.' I said mentally while extending my magic into the wand, feeling more stupid by the second. Just then, as if grudgingly accepting me, I felt a pulse of magic from the wand.

'Holy shit! It works!' I exclaimed mentally, stopping myself from cheering out loud. 'Right, matchstick to needle.' I thought. Closing my eyes, I imagined everything I could about a matchstick. From its smoky smell and its woodish texture, to its thickness. I then did the same for a needle, the hint of a coppery smell it had, it's sharp point as well as the heavier side where the eye was. Finally, I waved mum's wand and let my magic flow through it. Opening my eyes, I saw a fully formed needle in front of me. I jumped up in happiness and joy as I felt a rush from my first spell ever.

"Hahaha! I did it mum, Harry did'ya see?!" I laughed as mum sat there in shock.

It seemed my act of transfiguring the matchstick to a needle increased Harry's excitement even more as he seemed almost ready to burst.

"Me, me! My turn now!" He exclaimed.

It was moments like these that reminded me that no matter how mature Harry acted or how much of a genius he was, at the end of the day, he was still a five year old. And like all five year olds, he was susceptible to what we refer to as 'infinite energy.' Seriously! What is it with children?! Why are they always so hyperactive?!

Walking up to Harry, I patted his shoulder. "Now Harry, the way this worked, at least for me, is that I imagined everything I could about the matchstick and the needle and kind of willed the properties of the matchstick to change from a matchstick to a needle. Make sense?" I asked him.

"Not at all!" He said with a smile. "But it's fine, I'll try to do it the way you said."

It took Harry around 5 tries to get the transformation down. The first few being partial successes such as the shape being correct, but the colour still that of wood. But he got there in the end! I glanced at mum who was sitting on the sofa looking shell shocked. Walking up to her, I sat down on her right side as Harry sat on her left.

"Are you okay mum?" I asked her.

I heard her continuously mumbling something under her breath. I put my head on her shoulder to try and hear what she was saying.

"..is a lie. My life is a lie. My life is a lie..."

I got up, dragging a protesting Harry with me into the corridor.

"Hey!" He said. "What was that for?"

I looked at him in his eyes. "Harry." I said seriously. "I think we've broken mum..."

*****

They day after we completely shattered mum's reality, we were once again back in the living room. Except this time, it was for our first practical Charms lesson.

"Surprise quiz!" Mum shouted, seemingly appearing out of nowhere. "Yan, what's the difference between Transfiguration and Charms?"

"A Charm adds properties to an object or creature, while Transfiguration changes the object or creature into something else." I replied.

"Nice!" She commented. "Now Harry, name the three types of charms."

"Curses, jinxes and hexes!" Harry said excitedly.

"Well done Harry!" She said as Harry beamed at the praise. "Now children, Charms are a type of magic spell concerned with enchanting an object to behave in a way that isn't normal for that object. For example, the Summoning Charm brings an object to the caster." She said. "It's also like a universal plaster for spells. In some sense, if a spell isn't Transfiguration, it's probably a Charm."

'Hold on, she may be onto something here...' I thought.

"Now if you look at the table in front of you, you'll see two feathers."

'I swear to God, I will find out how she does this!' I thought as I looked down at the feather in front of me.

"The spell you'll be using today will also probably be the first charm you learn at Hogwarts. To correctly cast it, you wave your wand in a swishing and flicking motion and say 'Wingardium Leviosa'. Now I know about your damned photographic memories, so I'll demonstrate the spell for you." She said, demonstrating the spell. "Harry, you're up first!"

"Oh, okay!" Harry said as he bounced out of the couch and ran up to mum's wand.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" He said, the feather started floating in front of him, albeit a little low considering mum's wand wasn't helping him like it was for me.

'Damn, first try this time.' I thought.

"Your turn Yan!" Harry said proudly, passing the wand to me.

'Alright wandy, we're up' I said mentally as I extended my magic to the wand. I could somehow feel that it was... amused as its magic hummed in a way akin to laughter. I shook my head, focusing on the task at hand.

"Wingardium Leviosa" I muttered as the feather rose up into the air. I tried to maneuver it around and I succeeded for the most part. That was until my magical errectile dysfunction decided to act up. The spell gradually fizzled out and the feather slowly fell back onto the table.

'Damn it! This is so fucking annoying!' But there wasn't much I could do until I reached magical maturity in 6 or so years.

"Well done boys!" Mum said, clapping her hands. "From what your father has told me and I've seen so far, Harry; you seem to be gifted at Potions and Charms. Whereas Yan's like me and is gifted at Charms and Transfiguration. This probably means that you'll both do well in those subjects as well 'Defence Against the Dark Arts' since it's a mostly Charms based subject.

'Huh, good to know!' I thought cockily. It must've been showing because that prompted Harry to smack me upside my head.

"Ayo! Why'd you do that?!" I exclaimed, holding the back of my head.

"Your smile wasn't nice." He replied simply as he walked off.

I looked at mum, with an aggrieved expression, who seemed to take great interest in the table as she visibly restrained her laughter.

I ran out the room in mock rage, shouting "I will have my revenge!"

{2 Years Later}

"Yan! Wake up! You're going to be late for school!" I heard mum shout from downstairs.

"Alright, I'm coming!" I yelled back.

It had been two years and I'm proud to say that I had covered everything from the first two years at Hogwarts and was halfway through the third year; obviously barring Care of Magical Creatures, Astronomy and Defence Against the Dark Arts. I'd also found out that before having me, mum used to be a duellist! I know it may not be that big of a deal but it was absolutely amazing to me. She also told me dad was a Potions Master, which was also pretty cool, though not as cool as her being a duellist. 'It seems like I won't have to worry about mum and dad since they're able to take care of themselves.' I thought while getting out of bed. I walked to the bathroom to shower while planning out my day.

*****

After my shower, we were sitting at the table eating breakfast. Harry wasn't here today since it was a Tuesday. I was eating my cereal when it occurred to me that I didn't know what houses mum and dad were in when they were at Hogwarts.

"Hey mum, what houses were you and dad in at Hogwarts?" I asked curiously.

"Oh, I was in Hufflepuff and your dad was in Slytherin." She said, while eating.

'Oh wow, talk about different. Half the time in fanfics, people parents are either Ravenclaws or Gryffindors.'

I started to eat my breakfast. These past two years were very useful for me in terms of training. I had quite a few spells under my belt and finally managed to perceive my memories. It sure was a good way to spend time if I felt nostalgic. I could even go over the memories of my past life. Harry was also able to view his memories; which came as a massive form of amusement for him although it wore off quickly. This naturally resulted in an increase in our educational performance, what, with the inevitable increase in memory recall. Physical training wise, Harry had been enamoured with Karate after watching 'The Karate Kid'. On the other hand, I decided to learn Muay Thai since I'd be using entire body as a lethal weapon.

'I wonder if I could use magic to reinforce my strikes...' I mused as I ate a spoonful of cereal.

Finishing my food, I got up to go wash my hands. Over the years I had grown to be 51 inches tall. My hair was still a long curly black since I had opposed any decision to get a haircut. My skin had become clearer as a result of my constant magic use. I also found out that the twinkling eyes thing that Dumbledore does was a subtle use of the Mind Arts. It was not a probe to read your mind but instead was more like making yourself seem favourable in the eyes of other people if they look at you. Maybe he got bored in his old age and decided to experiment with magic.

Anyways, after breakfast I was in dad's car as he drove me to school.

"Dad, I'd like to start learning Muay Thai and Harry wants to do Karate." I said completely out of nowhere.

"Not that I'm opposed to it, but why? You're Wizards aren't you?" He said noncommittally.

"You may be right. But say you lose your wand or aren't able to get it in battle. Plus it'd be a nice thing to have up my sleeve. Imagine if I cast a sticking charm on someone's shoes and then beat them up!"

That elicited a laugh from dad. "Sure, I'll pay for you guys. Potion selling makes me quite a lot of money you know."

Dad's car came to a stop as we approached the school gates.

"Thanks dad!" I said giving him a hug as he ruffled my hair.

I got of the car and walked into priso— I mean school once again.

*****

I took my usual seat next to Harry. He wasn't wearing scruffy clothes anymore since my parents decided that considering we were pretty much the same height and weight, we'd share our clothes. There were no signs of malnourishment on him and he looked like a perfectly healthy seven year old. We also still had Miss Katherine as our teacher. I guess that the school thought that me and Harry being smart was a result of her teaching. This only served to increase the size of her ego even more resulting in her giving us morning speeches to impart her "wisdom" to us.

"Morning Harry." I whispered as I droned out Umbridge 2.0's morning speech.

"Hello, Yan." Harry whispered back.

Soon after she had finished her speech, Miss Katherine walked around the class and placed a test in front of everyone.

"Now don't panic everyone. This is test to gauge where you're at currently and to see what you need help with." She said, walking around the class.

'Usually when a teacher says that. It means the test is to see who the smarter people in the class are...' I thought. But it didn't worry me since I was confident that Harry and I could ace the test quite easily.

*****

After the test, it was break time and Harry and I were playing football with the other children. We weren't anti-socials who did nothing but sit on stairs and practice magic, I promise! No matter what age I might be mentally, I was still in the body of a child. Meaning I still felt all the excitement and hyperactivity children felt.

I was in the position of midfielder and so was Harry. Running up the pitch, I looked back at Harry, who had the ball in his possession.

"Harry, pass the ball!" I shouted to him.

He did just that, as I ran past a few people on the opposing team and shot the ball into the back of the net. The kids on my team rushing to hug me.

"Ha, goal!" I yelled as I ran back to Harry, high-fiving him.

"Can't resist being in the spotlight huh?" He grinned.

"Oh really, you're one to talk Mr Famous." I said as I gave him a grin of my own.

Soon enough, break was over as Miss Katherine came to the playground to take our class back.

*****

School progressed as normal and soon enough, it was the end of the day. Everyone walked out the gate and towards their parents. Harry and I walked up to my mum.

"Hello Harry, how was school today?" She asked as she patted his head.

"It was fun, Yan and I played football!" He said happily.

However, before he could say anything else, Dursley the Walrus waddled his way towards him.

"Boy! We're going home, now!" He snapped, walking back towards Petunia and Dudley.

Harry groaned in annoyance.

"Don't worry man, you only have to spend the rest of today with them and then you're coming with us tomorrow." I said.

"Yeah, I know. But doesn't make it anymore nice to live in a house with people who hate you for absolutely no reason."

"True that... But I have good news! Dad said he'll pay for you and me to take Karate and Muay Thai."

"Really?! That's awesome!" He replied, smiling from ear to ear.

"Alright Harry, best you get back to Mr Dursley over there. He looks about ready to burst." Mum said, pointing towards Dursley who was a dangerous shade of purple.

I was trying to hold back my laughter as Harry walked back to Dursley fighting off a smile.
