1 The Awakening

I remember that day like it was yesterday. That was the day that everything changed, the day the world stopped being entirely human. My name is Sicilia Duchess Snow, but you can call me Duch for short. I'm here to tell you what happened the day we all found out that all those things from the movies are real. Werewolves, vampires, demons, all of them real. Let me start from the beginning.

The day of the awakening it started out like any other day. Me and my brother Searen were at the store picking up the groceries for our mom when it happened. I had just grabbed the last few things on the list and was going to find my brother so we could go home. He had went to get his favorite cereal a few aisles down. I was walking towards the cereal aisle when the sky turned black and I felt an excruciating pain surge throughout my entire body. I dropped everything in my arms and curled up into a ball praying that it would stop.

I hadn't realized that I was actually in front of the cereal aisle until I heard my brother screaming in pain. It took everything I had to get up on my feet and use the shelves to half drag myself to Searen. I could see that he was scared. You see Searen is my little brother he's three years younger then me. He was only 14 when the change happened. At the time though we didn't know what was happening. I tried to reach for him when I felt something snap in my body. It started at my legs and worked it's way up, everything was snapping and cracking and distorting inside me. I could feel my body getting heavier and my hair start to grow.

I don't remember the rest of it because I guess I had blacked out from the pain. When I woke up there were people everywhere around me. some standing, some sitting in a daze, laying on the ground like I was. It was then that I registered that I didn't see Searen beside me. Instead of my brother lay a wolf in front of me. He was still unconscious but I could somehow feel that it was him. I went to get up when it had also registered to me that I no longer had only two feet. I too was a wolf and I had no idea how I felt about it.

You see the awakening was the day that the other parts of us that had laid dormant for generations were brought to the surface. The humans were afraid at first of course but thankfully our president made a bill that united us all. The humans and the not so humans were living in harmony....or so we thought. That was 5 years ago and in a twisted turn of events I somehow ended up being the first wolf to complete the change throughout the entire world. Ending in me being the supreme alpha of all wolves. Crazy huh? Well we're just getting started. You see I also need to find my mate within the next five months or my throne could be taken from me..

We find our mates anywhere from sixteen to twenty years old. We are literally drawn to each other no matter how far away in the world they are. When the awakening happened is the only time in five years that anyone over the age of twenty has found their mate. The council is concerned because the few cases of wolves not finding their mates has ended in them going crazy and blood thirsty...No one has ever went back to normal after that. I haven't shown any signs of aggression or devolving. That doesn't mean it won't happen to me though. The council is set up to protect and keep piece between all species. The humans vote for their member of council and the non humans go by the first of each species.

I am the wolf representative and also happen to be the youngest council member. In other words I have a lot to prove to them about my leadership skills. It is getting better though. Enough of me though. It's time for me to tell you how the biggest war in the world was almost started...and you'll never believe who started it.

I woke to the sun shining through the windows and my best friend and beta Malerie yelling at me that I was going to be late for the morning announcements to the pack. "I'm getting up Mal please stop yelling" I said with a groan while trying to cover my face with my blanket. "Sicilia Duchess Snow so help me I will make it storm right here in this bedroom if you don't get up right this instant!"

"OKAY, OKAY IM GETTING UP PLEASE DON'T DO THAT AGAIN!" I yelled back while scrambling to get out of bed. Wolves aren't just wolves. We are also gifted with special powers. I have many seeing that I was the first, but my best friend has something I don't. The ability to conjure and control the weather. Lucky me huh? Not.

"Come on Duch. We can't be late again or your mom is gonna make us run miles again" Malerie said with evident fear while walking around the room and gathering all my notes and things needed for the announcements. Last time we were late my mom Samantha Snow had made us run ten miles. In human form! We wolves are great athletes but that's too much even for us. I shudder at the memory and hurry to my closet. "Don't worry Mal I'll be ready in less than ten minutes" I say while picking out a beautiful pastel green blouse with flowing sleeves, dark denim jeans with a matching jacket and last but not least my favorite pair of combat boots. They were black with Crescent moons on the sides. I got dressed and looked myself over in the full length mirror that I had hanging on the wall beside my four poster solid oak bed with silk sheets and the best comforter in the world. Oh how I wish I could crawl back into it.

I have olive skin and long auburn hair. My eyes are green like emeralds and my body is what people call an hourglass shape. I have an average size nose and high cheek bones. I'm five foot four and one hundred and forty pounds. I'm mostly muscle but not too much muscle and full lips that come with a dimple on the right side of my face. I finish looking myself over and turn around to face my friend. "Okay" I sigh. "Lets get this over with" I saw as I walk towards the door. "I'm right here with you" Malerie says as she steps in line beside me and our footsteps match each others as we walk down the hall of my two story mansion and towards the stairs. As we make it out the front door and head to the pack house I can't help but feel like something big is gonna happen today. I just don't know whether it will be good or bad. Seeing I have the gift of sigh among other things and I can't see what's going to happen today makes me more uneasy.
