Wang Mang (45 B.C. -23 A.D. October 6), also known as Jujun, was born in Yuancheng County, Wei County (now Daming County, Hebei Province). It is also said that his ancestral home was Dongping Mausoleum in Jinan, Shandong Province (now Zhangqiu District, Jinan City, Shandong Province). He was the second son of Wang Man, the elder brother of Empress Wang Zhengjun of Emperor Hanyuan, and the founding emperor of the new dynasty (January 15, 9th AD-October 6th, 23rd AD).

Wang Mang was young and weak, but he had a good character. He was recommended by his uncle Wang Feng as Huangmen Lang and entered the official career. In the first year of Suihe, Emperor Cheng of Han Dynasty (8 B.C.), Wang Mang, 38 years old, was appointed as the Great Sima. Later, Empress Dowager Fu and Empress Dowager Ding, the relatives of Emperor Ai of Han Dynasty, came to power and lived in seclusion in the fief. In the first year of Yuanshou (2 B.C.), Emperor Ai of Han was recalled to the capital. In the first year of Chu Shi (AD 8), Wang Mang deposed Ruziying and became emperor himself. He changed the name of the country to Xin and the year title to Jian Shi Guo.

In the first year of the founding of the People's Republic of China (AD 9), Wang Mang carried out a reform based on ancient times, including the abolition of slavery, the prohibition of slave trade, the idea of equality for all, the dissection of corpses to eliminate feudal superstitions, the nationalization of land, the nationalization of salt, iron and wine, the emphasis on scientific and technological talents, the stabilization of the economy, the suppression of illegal hoarders, the establishment of state-owned banks, the establishment of a unified currency manufacturing system, and the establishment of a loan system. However, this series of reforms intensified social contradictions and triggered the Green Forest and Red Eyebrows uprisings. In the fourth year of the Earth Emperor (23 AD), Wang Mang was killed and the new dynasty was destroyed.

Wang Mang was regarded as mysterious by many people, and was even called a "transmigrator" for the following reasons: the year he named was very special. The next year, he changed the year to the first year of Yuanshi, which happened to be the first year of A.D., and the Eastern and Western eras were combined.
