Di Renjie Author's Biography
Di Renjie's author was Gulik, a Dutch diplomat, sinologist, and novelist. He loved Chinese culture and was especially fascinated by the ancient Chinese detective novel,"Di Gong's Case," which he translated and published in English. Since there were very few similar novels in China, he decided to create a long detective novel with Di Renjie as the protagonist, The Case of Di Gong of Tang Dynasty. This novel took 18 years to complete, depicting Di Renjie's legendary experience of being an official in the state, county, and the capital. Di Gongan of the Tang Dynasty caused a sensation in the West. It was considered an elegant and intimate work, and at the same time, it also showed the culture, official administration, customs, and other social features of the Tang Dynasty.
