In the Northern Song Dynasty, the titles of nobility were divided into duke, marquis, uncle, son, and male. They were awarded by the central court to correspond to different official positions and status. The highest marquis of the public, followed by Bo and Zi, decreased in turn. It was not clear how much the monthly salary was because there was no modern salary system in the Northern Song Dynasty. However, the salary of civil servants in the Song Dynasty was relatively low. Apart from some officials who had food and salary, the salary of ordinary officials was mainly determined by the social status and official position of those who had passed the imperial examination.
