In Yuan Kuocheng's Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Sun Xiu and Sun Hao were brothers. According to the novel, Sun Xiu, the general of the State of Wu, was Sun Quan's cousin, and Sun Hao was Sun Xiu's son. Since Sun Quan's two brothers, Sun Jian and Sun Jing, had both contributed to the establishment of the State of Wu, Sun Xiu and Sun Hao were mentioned in the same breath in the novel to emphasize their close relationship.
