Zhongyuan Festival was a common sacrificial festival in traditional Chinese festivals. It was usually celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. Although there were some customs and activities such as burning paper money and worshipping ancestors, it was not as scary as the legends said. During the traditional Ghost Festival, people would perform a series of sacrificial rituals and celebrations to pray for the blessings of their ancestors and gods. Some people would watch movies, go shopping, eat delicious food, etc. on this day, while others would perform some praying and sacrificial activities, such as worshipping the local god, Guan Yin Bodhisattva, etc. Although the Ghost Festival wasn't as scary as the legends said, staying up late to read books wasn't a good idea. Staying up late might cause physical fatigue, mental fatigue, and even affect one's health. Therefore, it is recommended to maintain a healthy lifestyle and arrange your time reasonably. Don't stay up late to maintain your energy.
