The first Chinese writer to put forward the concept of literature's affinity to the people was a Chinese literary theorist, who wrote in his "Literature Theory Questions and Answer Record" on April 23, 1943:"The nature of literature should be to serve the people rather than to express itself out of the people's lives." This view is considered to be the earliest expression of the people's nature of literature in Chinese literary theory.
